No matter how much time you put into an idea, the general public will not care. All they care about is digestible sensationalism, hence a very insouciant yet infectious idea will always propagate much more efficaciously than an endeavour in long-term passionate effort. It's a sad truth but that's how the market operates. Marketability and sincerity are not mutually inclusive traits.

If you game this out, it's actually a non-trivial roadblock to have someone in a multi-player game whose goal isn't to win, but rather to ensure that you loose. Even if they're a worse player than you, their single-minded focus means that you have to spend resources on them - resource that, in a more "balanced" game would go towards general defense and maybe improving your odds of winning.
