I'm a former British infantry corporal who is dealing with combat stress. IE shot nerves. Thanks PJ - thank you for getting this message out there mate. A very true and perceptive song.
Nobody else compares to her. Who else has put out great albums for 20 years? Not just good, but great. Rid Of Me, To Bring You My Love, Is This Desire?, Stories From The City, Let England Shake are all masterpieces. Without a doubt the best artist of the last 20 years.
She is so beautiful mentally, musically and physically.. This song is a riot.. legend :) luv hearing this version of the song... Subtle protest in a cryptic sway.. Great!!!
She's constituted the bulk of Remembrance Day for me- fantastic evocation of war- this album is the greatest thing to come out of the 21st century music industry. Thank you Polly, thank you thank you thank you!
I don't think anyone in the world, not even PJ Harvey herself quite understand just how much 3:20 (2:46 on LP version) onwards in this song moves me. It's like I'm frozen in time and someone gives me a lumbar puncture and injects my spine with raw emotion and tranquility. Please, why, why does it have to end...? Thanks PJ, I really owe you and anyone else in the world that makes Music that makes me feel this way.
Please ..this young lady deserves more than this. She put her heart and soul into this album, and all I'm reading here is bickering. Congratulations on your second Mercury Prize Polly Jean..and thank you for the wonderful show in Glasgow on Sunday night. x
Let England Shake is so much more than a pop record, it is a profound, brave work of art. Anything Mick Harvey gets involved in is brilliant too - for sure the best release of 2011 and maybe my favorite of the last 10 years
Great lady, a song that makes you want to cry. Wars, what did they ever do for mankind, just more innocents to thier graves. Collateral damage, a euphemism for mass murder & who ever thought that up cant have experienced it! Nice one PJ we need more like you.
Let England Shake just grew on me and became my top 3 PJ album. She returns to her blues rock origin in an extremely beautiful form, very solid and touching. Great job PJ
Oh, miss Polly Jean, how beatuiful can you express your feelings in songs - also the images which are so familiar with the traveling almost restless mind, exploring, observing, trying not to quote what you see (which is not easy for that matter). Adorable Miss Harvey. Thank you!
This should never be played again after I listened to whatever the fuck this noise was suppose to be. I am not saying Adele or Taylor Swift are better, but at least I don't instantly have a seizure...
19 after Dry. PJ released the best album of her career. The woman always keeps it fresh and does different things with every album she does. Incredible artist. Very rare in the music business not just now but also in the past.
There have been so many songs about war. This one is unique in its horrific reality. It is brutally honest. Not to mention, the music is brilliant and also unique.
I've seen and done things I want to forget; I've seen soldiers fall like lumps of meat, Blown and shot out beyond belief. Arms and legs were in the trees. I've seen and done things I want to forget; coming from an unearthly place, Longing to see a woman's face, Instead of the words that gather pace, The words that maketh murder. These, these, these are the words- The words that maketh murder. These, these, these are the words- The words that maketh murder. These, these, these are the words- Murder... These, these, these are the words- The words that maketh murder. I've seen and done things I want to forget; I've seen a corporal whose nerves were shot Climbing behind the fierce, gone sun, I've seen flies swarming everyone, Soldiers fell like lumps of meat. These are the words, the words are these. death lingering, stunk, Flies swarming everyone, Over the whole summit peak, Flesh quivering in the heat. This was something else again. I fear it cannot be explained. The words that make, the words that make Murder. What if I take my problem to the United Nations?
oh my god YES!!!!!! like a MODERN day poet of YORE. EXACTLY! like this song is like she travelled back to battlefields but it's also now and tomorrow. soldiers fall down like lumps of meat. the image of that solider walking in dead man's land....could be any fucking war. people will always dance, will always kill of their men and children
Her smiling into the camera at the end...there is a playful confidence that I don't remember seeing in her mid-90s hard rockin hey day. Its been pretty great "growing up" with her (I'm 41 too), watching her mature and evolve as an outstanding, visionary musician.
trivia: Harvey's family has Led Zepp connections...She would sit in with the band when she was a kid..and is a huge fan...you can hear Plant's voice in her tone
Exactly. I'm an 'aid worker' and this song always resonates with me for that precise reason...Which is why I'm still playing it again 2 years later lol :)
Oh my lord, about 3 hours ago-- I was at the british Library for the Pinter Prize... I was there to laugh at Carol Ann Duffy... Just sitting on a seat- oh my god- walking towards the bar is PJ Harvey in all her awesomeness. Meeting PJ Harvey...YES!
pj harvey is the most talented singer songwriter of our generation. she has always been streets ahead of anyone. let england shake is yet another outstanding album. she is endlessly brilliant.
I saw P.J Harvey a week ago on Later with Jools Holland and i saw and heard P.J Harvey and loved her look and her voice and was drawn in with her!! The two songs she sang were brilliant ;) The whole group are brilliant ;) Andy :)
It is incredible that I had PJ Harveys name buried in my memory but did not know any of her music until I saw her perform The Glorious Land on Later With Jools Holland in 2011.The album Let England Shake is such a stunning piece of genius and beauty that it will haunt you forever.Having listened to a lot of her music on TH-cam I went and bought all her albums and a concert poster from 1995 all in the same day.I feel sad that only now after 2 decades of my life passing I have now found PJ Harvey
PJ I cannot wait for the album. You are literally the only artist I look forward to hearing new music from. I hope you come to the states for shows as I have not missed one since 2000. Adore you!
Hadn`t really connected P J Harvey`s music to the category of folk music `till I saw this clip with P J playing the auto-harp. Makes perfect sense. Folk music isn`t about old or new, it`s about now.
I've seen you PJ @ Werchter this year. Hoping to hear some old tracks from her album Stories from the City. She amazed me, she caught me with this song. I'm so glad she's making music that catches your ear, especially when she's playing it live. Thanx to PJ for waking me up!
I'm so excited! Just one more week! Polly has been one of my idols since I picked up Uh Huh Her a couple of months after it came out, and I love everything she's done. This is so gorgeous and raw and amazing...
incredible. this comes together like the most beautiful poetry - I feel guilty I love it so much given the lyrics, true as they are. The videos on this songs blast to the top - oh yeah, there's no top................
It was after several months of driving including a cross country excursion that I realized that I had not changed out PJ Harvey's Peel Sessions CD. I think the only music in my life of than Pink Floyd 1968-1975 that never gets old for me is PJ Harvey. And while their music is nothing alike, they both share a creative dynamic spirit which seems timeless.
this song is the true picture of the war reality ..not more not less. she tells good enough. it's time to hear it especially in these days.. PJH made a masterpiece..
It's unreal how she has consistently written original, unique, and catchy-as-hell songs all these years. She's a bottomless well of excellence.
PJ Harvey is an enigma that is too incredible for mainstream. She's immensely wonderful in every way.
Oh my god! This song...the beat...her voice...!!! Ugh, it's just all so gorgeous!
I can't stop listening to it :-)
I'm a former British infantry corporal who is dealing with combat stress. IE shot nerves. Thanks PJ - thank you for getting this message out there mate. A very true and perceptive song.
the beat is so incredibly infectious, one of my favorite songs of hers
Nobody else compares to her. Who else has put out great albums for 20 years? Not just good, but great. Rid Of Me, To Bring You My Love, Is This Desire?, Stories From The City, Let England Shake are all masterpieces. Without a doubt the best artist of the last 20 years.
Radiohead are superior. She may be the second-best.
sar Tool
One of the most underrated songs off of one of the quintessential 21st century albums. Goddamnit, PJ is too cool.
So original..she's evolving and growing with years. Love her!
She is so beautiful mentally, musically and physically.. This song is a riot.. legend :) luv hearing this version of the song... Subtle protest in a cryptic sway.. Great!!!
She is a genius.
So so good. *raises cup of tea in her honour*
It's amazing how versatile she is- her music but also her looks. Her image changes every album. Keeps things interesting. She's a genius.
an extraordinary talent up there with the very finest artists Britain has ever produced from an album of exceptional quality.
What an incredible song about the horrors of war! Brilliant! Polly, you are amazing.
Summertime Blues quote. Fantastic!
She's constituted the bulk of Remembrance Day for me- fantastic evocation of war- this album is the greatest thing to come out of the 21st century music industry. Thank you Polly, thank you thank you thank you!

I love you PJ, back from Montreal and forever
Please ..this young lady deserves more than this. She put her heart and soul into this album, and all I'm reading here is bickering. Congratulations on your second Mercury Prize Polly Jean..and thank you for the wonderful show in Glasgow on Sunday night. x
The way the guitar from the beginning comes back in 2:13 is brilliant.
Let England Shake is so much more than a pop record, it is a profound, brave work of art. Anything Mick Harvey gets involved in is brilliant too - for sure the best release of 2011 and maybe my favorite of the last 10 years
shes got an amazing voice.

brilliant stuff, her best album
Let England Shake just grew on me and became my top 3 PJ album. She returns to her blues rock origin in an extremely beautiful form, very solid and touching. Great job PJ
I WAS SEARCHING FOR THIS LIKE A YEAR MY LIFE IS COMPLETE
Same! I wonder why this got taken down from her official page. Maybe one of the people in it threatened legal action and didn't sign off to be in it.
Oh, miss Polly Jean, how beatuiful can you express your feelings in songs - also the images which are so familiar with the traveling almost restless mind, exploring, observing, trying not to quote what you see (which is not easy for that matter). Adorable Miss Harvey. Thank you!
They should playing this a billion times on the radio instead of Adele and Taylor Swift.
yep
You're fucking deaf.
Too close to the bone. The bubble might be burst.
This should never be played again after I listened to whatever the fuck this noise was suppose to be. I am not saying Adele or Taylor Swift are better, but at least I don't instantly have a seizure...
How can you have a seizure to this? You're not very tolerant are you?
19 after Dry. PJ released the best album of her career. The woman always keeps it fresh and does different things with every album she does. Incredible artist. Very rare in the music business not just now but also in the past.
one of the greatest , like like like
There have been so many songs about war. This one is unique in its horrific reality. It is brutally honest. Not to mention, the music is brilliant and also unique.
I don't know what it is about the recorder, but for this song it is incredible.
The introduction of the chorus at 1:42 in the ballroom is a happy moment.
the Queen has once again graced us all with her music...great video...LOVE PJ.
Rhetorical questions are always the best questions, especially in music.
Really?
An incredible song, so moving. Best and most urgent album of the millenium and this is the best song.
"o bugger, ang on"
Heh. So Human. So honest.
I've seen and done things I want to forget;
I've seen soldiers fall like lumps of meat,
Blown and shot out beyond belief.
Arms and legs were in the trees.

What if I take my problem to the United Nations?
She is such a GENIUS. And seriously, how freaking BEAUTIFUL does she look lately? Absolutely stunning in every way.
Polly Jean here is a modern-day poet, kinda like in olden times.
oh my god YES!!!!!! like a MODERN day poet of YORE. EXACTLY! like this song is like she travelled back to battlefields but it's also now and tomorrow. soldiers fall down like lumps of meat. the image of that solider walking in dead man's land....could be any fucking war. people will always dance, will always kill of their men and children

Absolutely BRILLIANT from an old Dorset - BRITISH fan living in south Africa
'What if I take my problem to the United Nations"

PJ obviously rules, write more songs now! We need them!
The title properly assesses the incoming administration.

The last shot at the end where she looks into the camera... Oh! My heart is melting! Damn, girl!
I saw P.J Harvey a week ago on Later with Jools Holland and i saw and heard P.J Harvey and loved her look and her voice and was drawn in with her!! The two songs she sang were brilliant ;) The whole group are brilliant ;)

Greatest Musicialcianist Ever! PJ knows how to make music!
Hadn`t really connected P J Harvey`s music to the category of folk music `till I saw this clip with P J playing the auto-harp. Makes perfect sense. Folk music isn`t about old or new, it`s about now.
Only heard this for the first time yesterday. Absolutely beautifully done track.
I cant stop listening to this song. One time and another. I love it!

She's definitely one of my favorite musicians.
Fantastic new album !
It was after several months of driving including a cross country excursion that I realized that I had not changed out PJ Harvey's Peel Sessions CD.
