Franco Corelli is 50 here, but"he could still sing like a hurricane:he transformed the sextet"Che mi frena in tal momento" into a tenor solo with a chorus of five"(Rene Seghers)
I love Corelli but I can't imagine him trying to do this role. It's so wrong for his voice. I imagine he figured it out after the first and only complete performance...
Why not? All other tenors like Pavarotti, Domingo and many others were capable of singing everything, dramatic roles, lyric roles and whatever tenor roles, only Corelli was limited to certain parts? So, Corelli was inferior to all others? I would have Corelli's voice anytime instead of Pavarotti and many others who came after him.
@@judithbereczky4114 @Judith Bereczky Spoken like a petulant fan. You seem to believe singing is a democracy, if one singer does a role, others should too, just because. Why do you mention Pav & co? The poster didn't say anything about them, just about Corelli, and didn't ask anyone to 'trade' Corelli's voice for Pav & co's voices, as you are inclined to do. And no, Pav & co weren't capable of singing everything, particularly the 'whatever tenor roles'. Singing something as in just singing the notes to the best of your ability (and cheating when your ability isn't enough) vs singing in the correct STYLE ain't the same thing.
Wow! It's a concerto for Corelli's voice!
Lucia - Roberta Peters
Edgardo - Franco Corelli
Enrico - Matteo Manuguerra
Raimondo - Bonaldo Giaiotti
Arturo - Leo Goeke
Alisa - Carlotta Ordassy
Normanno - Rod MacWherter
Conductor - Carlo Franci
MET, 11th January 1971
Such a powerful voice : it must have been difficult for the other singers to be heard !
