You need to get some half-curved suture or postmortem needles (suture needless are shorter, postmortem needles are longer) from an embalmer supply store. They're thicker, longer, sharper, and have a curved end that makes it easier to sew the skin back together. A lot safer than straight needles as well. My grandfather used one to sew up the turkey on Thanksgiving, he was a funeral director so he just brought one upstairs to use. No, it hadn't been used on a human prior to that!
