    I really do miss the 80s, when kids can actually be kids. I feel bad for the kids now. They don't know what's it like to go to the toy stores. We had Saturday morning cartoons and really great TV shows. Back in the 80s, we had real playgrounds. Remember those hot summer days when we had those metal slides. You know the slides were hot but you slide down anyway. 😁

      And they had teeter totters - remember them? - one kid on one end the other kid on the other end. My city has many playgrounds but none of them as far as I know have any teeter totters. Have city planner thought them too dangerous or something? I used to love getting on the teeter totter with another person and going up and down until we were wanting to do something else.

      So true. I was born in ‘73 and remember the good ole days when my grandmother would take me to the mall. My favorite store was Kay Bee Toys. Every time I was in there it felt like a museum of awesome toys. I thought she was rich because she would buy me toys everytime I went to visit her. Kids now will never understand that kind of experience. I miss the 80’s so much. I hope when I die that I can be reborn into some parallel universe where it’s the 80’s all over again. Great time to be alive as a child.

    I worked at an Ace Hardware for 2 years while in High School. I really enjoyed it. The owner was really stressed with all the big stores like Lowes and Home Depot starting to build more and more stores. He was out of business by the mid 90s after about 15 years in business. Customers were even nicer back then. You couldnt pay me to work retail as a teenager now.

    Bradlees was a pretty good store. I remember going there as a kid because they always had the best toy aisle. There was a Kay Bee Toys in the mall, the Bradlees still had a better selection. Also, Child's World was underrated. There was one next to the Toys R Us in Mays Landing NJ in the 90s, and though their selection wasn't as good, they had a lot of older games and consoles that Toys R Us no longer sold. Their bargain bin was amazing.

      @@mysteriousjz Racist how? Not unless you're reading negative assumptions and stereotypes into it. I see nothing in the comment about anything other than "criminals or thugs", which come in all different people. There's nothing more duplicitously racist than patronizing others and assuming they can't be detached from negative stereotypes. The very assumption of the negative stereotype denotes racism. Furthermore, thinking you need to defend anyone's bad behavior, no matter who they are or from what walk of life, is ludicrous in itself. It's literally saying "Nobody expects better of you." and "We realize you can't do any better so instead we are going to patronize you, by defending you against anyone who dare points out that you might be doing something wrong." The insinuations of these stereotypes are downright disgusting in there own ways, when you think about it.
      I bothered to write you a paragraph because it gets sickening and tiring seeing people rush to defend against some perceived injustice, without even giving it much thought. Enough people get my attention who do this on Twitter, constantly, so if I have to endure that headache, they're getting a piece of my mind.

    • @mysteriousjz
      @mysteriousjz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@taskcasburn6086 I respect your comment because it is quite deep and shows your deep intellect which I love and quite frankly rare nowadays. I would say this, the op comment, along with the nature of the clip, and present day political and social mayhem, does insinuate some form of stereotype and some would call it racism. But I don't. Stereotypes do have facts behind them that may have them become Stereotypes in the first place. That doesn't make me racist. And your take that "we need to protect you because you are incapable of anything" has some truth to it but then brothas have to prove otherwise to nullify that sentiment. Racism can never be eradicated, but at least I can stand against INJUSTICE to any race because of their race.

    • @taskcasburn6086
      @taskcasburn6086 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mysteriousjz Thanks for that. It''s also rare to find those who appreciate a point of view that required more contemplation to come up with. I'm used to just swatting away blatant insinuations about some kind of character defect, rather than a substantive response that shows time was taken to think about the subject matter.
      I get that we now live in a hypersensitive and politically charged and ultra PC landscape, but it seems to me that it's just become a cudgel used to whip people into a boxed mindset about these issues, and makes everyone too afraid to address them beyond some superficial semblance of appearing to look like we are actually solving the problem itself. I think we are a culture too obsessed with the appearance of virtue, rather than the actual virtue itself. This just seems evident to me, especially on social media and Twitter, with everyone from politicians to celebrities chiming in with an opinion or a cudgel of their own expectations, using their "soapbox" to create an atmosphere of what I perceive to be an unending witch hunt of those who dare make a mistake and trespass against that perception of virtue, we are all supposedly expected to stand behind. You see how that begins to turn into something used as an excuse to condemn others? (Or dare I say it, a witch hunt?) Who very well may be trying to learn better, or just need to grow a little more experience in life themselves, to the point of it becoming a life lesson of their own.
      I didn't mean to get off on some long winded essay on this, just trying to condense my thoughts here into a good response. I commend you for your efforts at both seeing the problem and doing what much you can to address it. I do the same, on all sides of the issue where I think it can benefit others to take the time to understand the issue before we decide to pick a side in some needless and senseless discord, that only ends in throwing more fuel on these fires and making people resent each other, even more. Thanks again for listening and for taking the time to have a proper discussion here. It's not often I find this on social media, but it's a memorable experience when I do. Peace.
      PS: I agree that we won't ever eradicate racism, but I think if we stop creating an environment were people feel like they must agree with someone else's idea of virtuous conduct or be held in contempt of being some awful and horrible racist, for what very well may have just been a mistake or ignorance on their part, we'll go a lot further to addressing these kinds of divisions.

    Born in 1982 and the music of the 80s that you hear at 2:18 brings me back. Those exact clothing racks at 2:20 were our old hide and go seek spots. Back then any department store you went to that had a clothing department, you would always hear a parent calling out for their kids because kids were always hiding in the racks. Kmart had the cafe in them where we would get an Icee and the shopping malls had orange julius. The excitement when my Dad would get home from work Friday evening and say "Let's go to Blockbuster" was the best. We would get a movie for the family to watch and then at times I was allowed to get a movie for myself that I would watch on repeat all weekend and I'd eat a box of sour patch kids with it. It's crazy thinking about it. I had one movie that I would watch on repeat all weekend, and now I have thousands of movies at my disposal and I can't find one to watch. The Nintendo we had brought us kids together, where as today kids are at home but they're not really at home playing with their siblings because they're playing online. I feel that the 80s brought families together. Everything from going grocery shopping to being at home and watching a show together was something you don't see much today. If you notice every retail commercial that you see in 80s is focused on customer service and the overall customer experience, where as today it's all about speed. I'm all about speed too but we're not living in the moment. It's only August and I'm already seeing Halloween stuff in the stores, and by next month we'll start to see Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff. Due to my profession, I understand business really well, and I know why businesses operate quickly, but damn....slow down a little and let people take in the moment. It's sad but I'm glad that I had a chance to experience the 80s and 90s. It was truly a great time to be a kid. Simple times.
