    Could you do a full belt breakdown and a how to remove and replace on the mk2s. Been looking for a good video on it but I can’t find any good ones. Great video Oli!

      I don’t have a mk2 (yet), but I definitely need to work on making a belt video. The belts and tensioning systems are all relatively similar between mk1 and mk2

    Would this work for a 1983 vw rabbit diesel? I am planning on putting in a electrical AC pump on it and a 10 inch base speaker and don't think the stock alternator will work.

    Great, as always. However I have a good alternator, but the belt snapped. Can't seem to find a link/video on how to change this belt. HELP PLEASE

      Release ac compressor tension (very similar to alternator) and then remove ac belt. Install alt belt. tension ac compressor. Tension alt.
      Check out my rebuilding ac system video. I remove the ac compressor there. I haven’t filmed the belt replacement yet.

    Which is the correct battery for a 1.8L 98hp engine without Air-conditioning?

    Curious to know what made you choose this alternator over others considering you have to replace the fan and what not to make the belt fit? I don’t have the gun you use to get out the fan, and wondering if you recommend any other alternatives that might fit right off the bat?

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I thought it was going to fit right out the box. Otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it. I think it depends on who remanufactured it. You can always use a vice to hold the pulley or a large pair of pliers and a helper.

    Looks like I may need to replace alternator on my mk2 with AC. Do the alternators typically come with the correct pulley? I’m pretty sure my old pulley needs replacing too

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought that they did!! Apparently not always though as I found out.
      What is wrong with your old pulley? Just curious

      @@OlisGarage I've been going through alternator belts like crazy and after trying a few things I'm pretty confident the alt. pulley is worn in. The belt is sitting pretty deep in it and has some side to side movement. Can't find a replacement pulley for a mk2 diesel with A/C for the life of me either

    My alternator “tensioner” doesn’t have teeth or ANY slot to tighten. It’s just a solid bar? 89’ mk2 1.6td

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally normal. I cover tensioning at 9:07

      @@OlisGarage maybe I’m getting confused. Mine doesn’t seem to have either of the versions you mentioned. Mine is a solid bar. No slot at all. With or without teeth

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisladouceur4093 aaahhhh ok, sorry didn’t understand that.
      I *think* someone must’ve made their own replacement then at one point. You could always drill a second hole and then “connect” the holes with a grinder to make a slot to adjust. With V belts you need some adjustment capability since they get worn over time and ride farther down in the grove.

      @@OlisGarage been looking more into it. Seems the diesel mk2 had a solid bar. Or at least some of them did. Used a different method for tensioning

    Will we have to change the pully's length from the alternator on every alternator or is it just this specific one? If not is there a perfect fitting alternator i could buy?

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure. I specifically wanted a Bosch alternator, and the two I bought didn’t have the correct pulley. Switching pulleys really isn’t hard if you have someone helping to hold. Just make the bolt that holds the pulley on nice and tight. Your local auto parts store might have an alternator with correct pulley; however I am not certain.

      Vanagon is coming! Engine is in and all hooked up. It cranks like a bad from hell but just won’t quite start….so I’m trying to work through that. The engine has never run since it was a crate motor, so I’m not quite sure where the problem lies. More trouble shooting will be happening. I need to get back to editing videos again too. Tons filmed but nothing edited haha

    I hope you have 13.5 volts with all accessories enabled. Otherwise it is to low. And dielectic grease between contacts, seriously ? That might be the case for to low charging voltage. You may put the grease all around of already tightened contacts if you wish but I wouldn't even mess with that and jsut picked stainless nuts and washers instead.
