Powerful message indeed. As a Christian, I feel very sorry for the condescending demeanor of many Christians (including those in the Westboro Baptist cult). I have not been a Christian for a very long time, so I understand the kind of contempt that some "so called Christians" have for us "sinners." But I came to realize that Jesus came to those who knew that they were "perfect mistakes" and "almighty f**k ups," not the overly pious religious types that thought they had it all together (Mark 2:17). I don't really understand true christians too much. Why have such a strong belief in something that has never been shown to you first hand? All there is, is a book that people claim to have been created by god. I'm not saying a god doesn't exist, but why don't some people like you have a bit of doubt that some magical being doesn't exist? And if its because you want to be happy about the way you die, or for who you are. It still seems to trouble me that there isn't any doubt to it. Maybe being raised into a strong belief of it is what does it.

This song is just as much about the hateful and meaningless passages in the bible as it is modern followers of the religion. Let's not play it off as the religion itself isn't problematic, outdated and inundated with useless belief systems.
I found Architects late... like 2 years ago, even tho im listening to variety of metal music for 15+ years now. its impressive to me how modern they sounds and thats almost 10y old album.
It's good to see a lot of comments here arguing and thinking about something that has become an issue in today's society(to many people including me, let's face it), wether it's positive or negative, right or wrong. Let's get educated. That's the power of music and how it express throught itself.

I don't even want to know how long it took to render this music video. So far your music just seems to get deeper and more brutal. LOVE it.
I have the most comfortable life any one could dream of. And yet I suffer deeply for the suffering and torment of all - humans and animals. And then the meaningless, the hopelessness and despair of all and everything. This song hits exactly there.
everysingle one of us has a particule of god inside us. we're all gods but we cant reach enlightment due to our human form, desire and carnal ambitions..
MrPorto Tiger the problem with people who think like you is the fact that you don't question anything.....you hear an 'idea', a concept that you like very much and just believe it because it fits your criteria. The fact is that you don't have any proof of anything....and neither scientist have absolute proof of their theorys.....and that's amazing to me....with all their years of study and experiments they still say they don't have a complete answer, and that every theory can be 'unprooven' with enough evidence (bassicaly most of them are agnostic, as am i)....religious people don't want to chalenge their minds, but believe in divinity so they can feel special and safe.... there are an infinite posibilities how we came to be.....the one with god and fallen angels is as probable as believing in a flying spaghetti monster.... just accept your existence like it is and don't wish for imaginary paradise that contradicts itself in so many ways. Saying you have god particles in yourself is such an egocentric statement....you put yourself above everything just because you don't understand why you exist....that's basic behaviour of non-critical thinking.
checking out the opening acts for BMTH and I hear that the guitarist passed away of cancer a few weeks ago... it seems that everywhere I look, everything I read, theres more cancer victims than I ever would have imagined. even though I dont listen to this band, I still feel the loss of another amazing person. RIP Tom.
So is good something that isn't caused either but the absence of evil? If neither is caused but only being absence of each other how does that make sense?
Nope they have different concepts. Turn off the lights in your room, it's dark. Turn it on, it's bright. It's not darkness itself, it's dependent on the light. Which defines the term 'shadow'. So really darkness is shadow; the absence of light. There is no original source of darkness, only light like the sun in the dark space.
Johnnie Kimmie If God is all-powerful, then he can illuminate any dark evil corner. He chooses not to. That means he accepts and even encourages the existence of evil. Think about that.
I've been a "Christian" for the majority of my life. I find songs like this to be riveting and beautiful in content. It's not offensive or blasphemous, it's real. It's honest and passionate towards the story of Christ just as any Chris Tomlin or For Today song is. Questioning God, his agenda, or his existence has been at the center of almost every Biblical figure from Noah to Job and so on. If you follow the Bible, and those who teach it, blindly you will end up either a closed minded bigot or missing the whole point. These lyrics are truths hard to swallow.
Carlos Pardon To be honest, my friend, I wouldn't really call those people "Christians". Those are what we in the "heavy music community" generally call posers.lol
The best visual work i've seen in a long time... absolutely breathtaking. Don't know who is making vids for them, but i'm completely in love with their work
I'm a Christian and I think this song is incredibly powerful. I get chills everytime I listen to it. I think more people of faith should contemplate the nature of God. A personal relationship with God is important, but what is a relationship with someone you don't really know? It seems like a lot of people of faith treat prayer like they're talking *at* Him, and not like two way communication. Between the Old and New Testaments, the nature of God changed drastically. So much so that we saw the conception of a new Abrahamic faith in Christ. And really, would God be happy with the world as it is? Just because you love your children doesn't mean you can't be disappointed in them. I see a lot of Christians in the comments say they disagree with the message. But I think its important to consider it. At one point God sent the Great Flood to reset all of humanity. Wrath isn't impossible for him. I think treating the notion of God like he doesn't experience changes of emotion is underestimating how complex our creator truly is. And I don't think questioning God means you're being disloyal to Him. Let that inquiry be something that strengthens your relationship with Him.
you know what. I think it's time for an Architects tattoo. They have consistently impressed me for 10 years. I don't have any band tattoos but i think i have just been persuaded. Love this band.
Sometimes I feel kind of guilty for singing along to songs like these because I'm a Christian, but then I'm like "ah, fuck it. I'm not depriving myself of badass music for the sake of being good." Im just going to enjoy the lyrics for what they mean to people, even if I myself can't relate to them because let's be real, those are some darn good lines.
these guys did a meaning behind the song interview and basically this song is directed to anyone using religion in selfish/harmful way in a way to justify their actions of being a shitty human. If you're a legitimate good person and is a Christian that isnt like the type I explained above. then this song isnt directed to you
We need more people like you in the world. I mean, I'm no Christian but I have my beliefs. And it's really interesting to hear other people's points of view, especially when it's this emotional. They killed this song, and I still feel loved from the deity in which I believe.
To supplement what +Sammy Nevarez said, here is a blog from Tom: architectsofficial.tumblr.com/post/76328164207/discussion-about-the-meaning-of-broken-cross
I know what you mean but like Sammy says it's not directed towards good people. So many have such a blurred vision of Christianity and other religions due to the people that use religion to profit themselves. One thing I love about Architects is the message they send in there lyrics. Haven't heard one song that hasn't hit me right in the feels. Also so stoked I finally found a vinyl LP of Lost Forever//Lost Together, and pre ordered the new album coming out in May.
+Leora Ojadi the thing about this song, how i see it at least, is that the lyrics are not against religion but what man does of and with it. The lyrics are saying that people are using religion as a mean to a end and that if their was a god well he would be dispointed. at least that's my two scense
to everyone out there arguing about how religion manipulates people etc...it's pretty straight forward that this song has nothing to do with religion. it's aggression directly towards God. i believe we as humans should feel more responsible for our acts and stop blaming God. If you re an atheist you cannot blame God anyway
"We’re all stuck on this rock together so lets stop searching for ways in which we are different are start looking at all the ways in which we’re alike" Tom Searle. Rest In Peace inspirational man....
sometimes, i read the youtube comments just to see how many people will pick fights. This is why I'm here: this song is amazing, this band is amazing. i want to listen to it. not fight with people.
I'm Christian and I cannot agree to the message of this song... ..but having said this, I can certainly say that the Searle brothers can whip up some insane riffage! Sounds almost like the Hollow crown days. Am stoked for this album!
i really dont want to offend you in any ways and totally respect you being a christian, but why dont you agree? in my eyes god is either not existing or hes not caring about us in any way. but thats just my opinion, i dont say i am right, its just what i think :)
This is one of the few songs that completely erases me from everything but the pure bliss of the music. I can't explain it,I cant explain the feeling, but it takes me home.
Guys, the song isn't an anti-religious statement. It expresses what it's like to feel abandoned by God, your supposed creator, in your suffering ("a desperate picture of God's regret"), and calls against hatred initiated by religion ("hate must weigh on you like a broken cross"). I believe in God and think it's key to respect all religions, but I can relate to the song.
This song mirrors my my feelings right now. It has been hell of a year and every close one i have is sick or passed out. I just want to thank you for feeling better just 3 minutes.
Its interesting that everyone in this comment section are fundamentally what this song is about. Maybe you aren't the ones causing wars or corruption in this world, but your constant arguing over shit so irrelevant and small in a universe where there are so many bigger things than what your fucking views on religion are, is the meaning behind "he doesn't fuck love us". IF god were to really exist, do you honestly think he would be proud of his creation of the human race? Look at yourselves. Fighting over shit that LITERALLY DOES NOT MATTER when you look at existence as a whole. Humans think they are the center of the universe when in reality, we are all a bunch of fucking parasites destroying ourselves and the home we live on. Great song as always, Architects.
Not saying I disagree with you, but there is more at stake here than just an idea. Religion is one of those things that has to go. There are too many minds in this world that stop searching for answers because they think the answer is god. Brilliant minds, potential doctors, physicists, chemists, etc. that never come to be because they are stymied by religion. We need these people because between the exponentially growing population and climate change, we're going to be fucked without them. Some things are worth fighting for. And this absolutely does matter.
just saw them yesterday, fucking amazing! definitly want to see them again, what a fucking hell of a show! i recomend everyone to see them live, and sam carter has such energy, and he's voice live is just like the album, just incredible.
I really like this and I just discovered them! I am a christian but I really love to hear other people's opinion on these topics. I am a person who really excepts everyone's opinion, that is why I like this type of music. I really enjoy this song for many reasons! But still, god bless these guys ^-^
You know I was almost going to click to the next song, but the heavier, more spitting vocals where I truly feel anger and just feeling in general, it's good shit man. It just makes me want to keep listening. The music is also quite an atmosphere builder, at least in several parts of the song. I don't know if I could listen to these guys more than this one song, but that's what I love about music. Every song is a journey, and some journeys you don't like and some you do - you never know until you take it.
I haven't had a song hit me like this and give me shivers, since, well the last time was when Sempiternal and before that Like Moths To Flames first album. I Sure as fuck missed this feeling.
Just incase you haven't taken the time to listen to August Burns Red they are a really sick band, listen to the track Poor Millionaire to start you off. They are super religious but it doesn't take away from the seriousness of their music, and their drummer Matt Greiner is great.
Lyrics, emotions and sound yes that's what they are!!! Listen closely what they're singing about!!! Very emotional and important. He's not just screaming......♡
Look at all these people attempting to look smart by arguing about religion and claiming what's right or wrong. You guys probably can't see the big picture here. It's the fact that you can't respect the perception and beliefs of other people that causes war. You don't need to insult each other. If you can all learn to do that, you can learn to live in peace.
You're the first to disrespect others by judging us. We are free to speak out against what we think is the situation happening and related with the message that the band wants to give and the pictures shown in the video. Respect our opinions mate.
Pau satorra Herbera Disrespected you? Seriously? In what way? Yeah you are all free to express your opinions.Arguing is ok but most people here are crossing the line. The problem comes in when someone insults someone just because they don't agree with each other. Know the difference. I never said "SHUT THE HELL UP SO WE CAN HAVE PEACE."
Best part is lyrics. Easily. Genuis. They're real. Some people might "disagree" with the lyrics, but damn, you can tell they mean it. So excited to see them tomorrow night open for "Letlive"
Ima have to agree to disagree bro im lost as fuck but I don't think there is not a God I believe there is one but idk who doesn't make sense to just show up and go threw pain for nothing or i would have ended it
@@kilo_ktks I mean it is pretty obvious that the God that created us is actually the devil. And no, you wouldn't have ended your life even if you realized that god doesn't exist because you are made to want to survive; it's an instinct. There is really no need for rationalization.
Though I am Christian (I respect everyone's beliefs and faiths, for although I can dislike and disapprove of someone's actions, I must love my neighbor as myself) Just wanted to say I respect this band and even this song because (if you read their blog on Redditch about Broken Cross) they are singing against those take religion for an excuse for discrimination and to hurt others. Like beating someone up because of their sexual orientation, or be a suicide bomber and what not. And that their god is not a god that loves us. Anyways, cheers!
I am a Christian too, and love architects as well. People, god is NOT religion. Religious people are the ones who crucified Christ because they don't liked him. They killed him because their religion was bigger than their love! The real god loves us and that's why we are in this world, to love and forgive one another no matter what. Even in our worst days. LOVE 4 ALL
We are always looking outside of ourselves for answers. Whereas I think we need to deeply reflect on ourselves to truely find the answers we are all searching for. We can't keep blaming god and wondering why he would do such things to humans, and at the end of the day we make choices, and we have to learn about cause and effect. God doesn't kill. We do. Humans. We all have the choice to redeem our bad decisions too but unfortunately people think they can do whatever they want without accepting the consequences. We are all guilty of doing some wrong in our lives whether we like it or not, but with hard work we can pull through these dark times. I hope this sort of made sense, I'm tired and shiz
God is not a fucking pure example of morality he despises intelligence because it is is enemy the man would have you pillage towns rape convert the people in the town he him self has sent massive floods to murder an entire earth for the few people he deems too sinful he would kill countless amounts of people in order to purify the fucking place he makes Hitler look like a fucking butterfly I understand this isn't something your church would preach XD Misogyny,Pedophilia, Homophobic, fear of anyone out of the normal the beliefs of religion has caused elitism and is often the source of a lot of hate
Adam Kilpatrick OK, time to shoot down your arguments as well. God doesn't kill? You believe in god, so you believe that he caused a great flood which KILLED most of the earth's population, so how can you possibly say that god doesn't kill? Yes, we do, and so does everything else in nature. Natural selection is survival of the strongest and evolution, and sometimes that calls for killing, which you see in most if not all predators. We can do whatever we want. I went into a large church (not a mega church, just a large one), and I started blasting Attila into the microphone and saying "praise the lord satan". I defiled the crosses on the way out. Nothing happened, as a matter of fact, I got a raise the next day. And no, I'm not a satanist, I don't believe in god so therefore I don't believe in satan. However, if I was a satanist, that wouldn't necessarily mean that I'm evil. There are some satanists who view satan as a free-thinking being who revolted against an oppressing ruler, which, if the bible was true, is a true statement. and Deathmilzer Jenkinz is right, god is against intelligence. It even says in the bible that sin came into the world because we ate the fruit off of a tree, which is literally referred to in the bible as the tree of knowledge.
I'm not christian or follow any religion, but I do believe that god exist, maybe I don't know if he's good or not, or something, I just believe that we as humans we are not just a coincidence. But bands like Architects or Parkway Drive have those feelings that really gets you, you can't deny that their lyrics are sincere, and gives you a message no matter if you're in a religion or you are just atheist, they are trying to tell you with their songs that at least don't trust, give yourself the chance to doubt, like don't believe everything that people says is true just because is written in the bible.
Mmmchutney What I meant is that humans are so imperfect that there's gotta be something or someone else above us, like more powerful that could create all of this, or who knows maybe God is all universe, everything that exists, even us could be God or part of God, I don't know. The thing is that this is a tough topic to talk about. I'm probably too wrong but that's what I think.
Wow, what an adventure I've been going through for almost three years! Listening to bands from Asking Alexandria to Bring Me The Horizon to Sleeping With Sirens to Parkway Drive to I Killed The Prom Queen to Architects has really taught me a lot about myself and my music tastes. yeah dude. But questioning your faith leads to answers! And with answers come truth, Faith is just used to "brainwash" you. I dont like to use that word but that is what it looks like to me. (Believing in something you cant see, feel or hear). You might have heard him or "felt" him. But when thinking that, remember that every religion uses the same thing (faith) and have countless people "feeling" and hearing god.
I just started listening to this band and I have to say these guys vastly improved over their older stuff. His new style of vocals are so much better than his older one. This message in this song is great.
These lyrics remind me of a son after a stern Word from his Father. At the time, the son is full of hate, unable to see the love of the Father because he's being corrected by Him. Only in hindsight, after correcting himself can the son realise how much Love was truly behind his Father's actions.
Been like 8 years and this song still gives me cold chills

If you really pay attention to the music, the ambient keyboard adds so much power to Architects songs.
Powerful video/song/production.

LOVE it.
It was about 7.5 hours!

Red Boss Productions Thank you for creating these amazing videos!! Total respect :)
I have the most comfortable life any one could dream of. And yet I suffer deeply for the suffering and torment of all - humans and animals. And then the meaningless, the hopelessness and despair of all and everything. This song hits exactly there.
I am a God. How do I know? Everytime I try and talk to God, all I can hear is myself speaking.

everysingle one of us has a particule of god inside us. we're all gods but we cant reach enlightment due to our human form, desire and carnal ambitions..
The more I listen to this, the better it gets! Same way as Naysayer did to me. So perfect!
I feel exactly the same :3

Best architects album ever. Can't even explain how good this is.
God does love us. And loves this song.
checking out the opening acts for BMTH and I hear that the guitarist passed away of cancer a few weeks ago... it seems that everywhere I look, everything I read, theres more cancer victims than I ever would have imagined. even though I dont listen to this band, I still feel the loss of another amazing person. RIP Tom.
One of the greatest metalcore songs of all time
"A match made in heaven" came out a little over a month ago but already has half the views of Broken Cross. ARCHITECTS IS BADASS.
Evil is not something that's caused, it's the absence of good.
Actually it works the other way around.. but ok
How the fuck do you even sit down and begin to write such a masterpiece. Unreal talent
One of the best metalcore songs ever made.
Why cant all Christians be as open minded as you?
Carlos Pardon To be honest, my friend, I wouldn't really call those people "Christians". Those are what we in the "heavy music community" generally call posers.lol
2:52 to 3:13 just chill man 😊😊😊😊😊❤️

This one looks pretty cool too th-cam.com/video/SDDn4Kh65MA/w-d-xo.html
I love the way of how Sam screams "HATE" in this song
My favorite album. This and AOGHAU are such great albums and remain so relevant in my life. 🖤 rip T//S Truly missed...

Have you heard Doomsday?? Cause I reckon they are still going strong without Tom. I think his death has driven them to new heights. Rip tom
To supplement what +Sammy Nevarez said, here is a blog from Tom:
architectsofficial.tumblr.com/post/76328164207/discussion-about-the-meaning-of-broken-cross

Insdead of argueing about god im just going to say..
This song kicks ass. Goodnight
***** Well said.
***** I'm sorry but I highly doubt that a person's religious views are as important in the grand scheme of things as people make it out to be.
***** thats my point! thats the entire point of this song! something like that is effecting the entire human race and for what...?
***** Not a problem! Probably should have worded myself better

Oh man I cannot wait for Architects to be back in Australia. They are absolutely incredible and I refuse to miss seeing them again!

Smart words man
One of the ten commandments is "respect thy neighbor" That's all we need to live in peace.
Christopher Katzer Couldn't agree more mate, although prepare yourself for people who would argue with you about those commandments, lol
I actually think we'll finally have a monstrous album like Hollow Crown/Ruin
Dervy Every Architect's album is Monstrous.
Best part is lyrics. Easily. Genuis. They're real. Some people might "disagree" with the lyrics, but damn, you can tell they mean it. So excited to see them tomorrow night open for "Letlive"

Though I am Christian (I respect everyone's beliefs and faiths, for although I can dislike and disapprove of someone's actions, I must love my neighbor as myself)
Just wanted to say I respect this band and even this song because (if you read their blog on Redditch about Broken Cross) they are singing against those take religion for an excuse for discrimination and to hurt others. Like beating someone up because of their sexual orientation, or be a suicide bomber and what not. And that their god is not a god that loves us.
Anyways, cheers!
this reminded me of day of the dead by hollywood undead....that song is about people who want or try to earn money from religious people
Much love from an agnostic! You are what religion needs
Your religion is cancer. You're a virus that spread it. Be gone.
Finally, someone who gets it.
LOVE 4 ALL
I love the riff in the minute 2:55
Architects the best band...
Anyone here just binge tf outta Architects cause they're fucking amazing?
4 years ago today, rest in peace Tom.
One of the best hardcore metal tracks I have ever heard in my life! I love the older Architects so much!
This is quite the powerful video.
I think this video is garbage myself. Completely lost. Deluded. And it breaks my heart. They are so talented yet have no idea what they are sewing.
gold. nothing but good harsh truth.
YES.
This song breaks and rebuilds. Like we all must.
Yes people kill people under his fucking ideals sweetie
So humans can't be a coincidence, but God can? Not trying to start an argument just a discussion.
Hansel Drahonovsky Yeah I getcha :P
The message behind this song sends chills through my body.
I really look forward to hearing more from this band and any other bands that I tend to discover next that make a great impact on me! :D

Read the bible, its the main cause of atheism.
moloking401 I really don't care what the bible says there are so many words just copied down book from book. Religion is dead but jesus lives man
that may be. But the only evidence of jesus is in the bible. I choose not to agree with his teachings that are portrayed in the bible
moloking401 I understand man its hard for me to keep faith sometimes

These lyrics remind me of a son after a stern Word from his Father. At the time, the son is full of hate, unable to see the love of the Father because he's being corrected by Him.
Only in hindsight, after correcting himself can the son realise how much Love was truly behind his Father's actions.
