Possibly my favorite animations of Touhou are by an animator named Minus T, his animations are an absolute blast to watch! Hope one day you react to one of them.
It's mostly battles, won't tell much story, but damn, guy is awesome for animating 3D danmaku, its very addicting watching all those bullets flying in 3D.
It is worth mentioning that MinusT 3D is this particular animator's interpretation of the game. In a sense, if he does react to the 3D animation, he will get a sense of the gameplay and the intensity of the bullets that is possible...
To be clear, each of the songs for the openings are covers from the original games' BGM. And each cover were made by a group called Yuuhei Satellite, with the vocalist in particular being Senya. The first opening is a cover for "The Gensokyo the Gods Loved", the Stage 3 BGM from Touhou 10. This theme in particular is joked about as Touhou's national anthem by the fans, or is often used as the theme for the land of Gensokyo as a whole. The second is a cover of "Last Remote", the Extra Stage theme from Touhou 11. An honestly beautiful piece that is loved by the fans. Third is "Fate of Sixty Years", the theme of Shikieiki from Touhou 9. She's the green haired girl shown everywhere in the opening, and is the final boss for this particular game. And finally, the last cover is from "Extend Ash ~ Hourai Victim", the Extra Stage theme from Touhou 8. Another solid theme, with heavy ties to the phoenix girl you pointed out before. Each theme is iconic to the series, by some form or another, and I highly recommend listening to either them or covers of them during your spare time.
I love that question by the end "Who's the bad guy here?!" Depending on what the story wants, anyone can have their time in the spotlight. The main protagonists may be antagonistic, previous antagonists become protagonists, there's a sort of revolving perspective that just makes it feel like you're tagging along with everyone's everyday lives in this series, regardless of how many pointless fights they start Edit: The creator of the series, ZUN, has been open about his distaste of having the series be adapted into a full-on anime. When he was writing one of the official manga, he intentionally made the pacing be spread across multiple different lines of books because his publisher wanted to adapt it into an anime
This fanmade anime also has an ending per episode (it's at 18 episodes so far). You may be particularly interested in checking out the 果てなき風の軌跡さえ (Even the Endless Wind's Trajectory) PV. The song for it is the 14th ED of this anime, but the visuals of the PV are different from the ones in the anime and are much more interesting. There's even an Itano circus. You may also be interested in checking out some Touhou PVs made by Akatsuki Records, for example リバーストリガー (Reverse Trigger), or by Sound Holic, for example 全人類ノ非想天則 (All Mankind's Hisoutensoku).
There are 2 other notable Touhou fan anime I'd like to mention: Touhou Musou Kakyou ~ A Summer Day's Dream and Touhou Hifuu Katsudou Kiroku ~ The Sealed Esoteric History (my personal favorite). In my opinion, they're even more impressive than Memories of Phantasm, considering the fact they both have professional voice acting (with some famous VAs) and fantastic animation (not the first episodes though, you can clearly see how the animation improves episode by episode). I absolutely love the song used for the opening of The Sealed Esoteric History (Ketsubetsu no Tabi), it remixes 3 amazing Touhou themes together (Girl's Sealing Club, Innocent Treasures, and Necrofantasia).

As a long time Touhou enjoyer it's good to see new people expose to this rabbithole. So the thing about Touhou is that the original game is consider itself a original "doujin game" where ZUN, the main Touhou dev, sell it at comiket (a doujin market convention). That make it kinda more "with the mass" than normal game release and it generate fan from different doujin circle. With how simple but interesting character and story and also a banger ost not to mention that ZUN himself know the mindset of doujin creator so the IP it's is initialy not copyright (have to do it later since unrelate party try to make the name their own) that make it more safe to create doujin work of it and it's kind snowballed now Touhou even have their own comiket called Reisaitai. On unrelated note would you interest in reaction to music from arknights? If so I would you to see your reaction to 'Arknights EP - Radiant' since it's good entry point for this another rabbit hole lol

So, from memory. The first opening is an arrange/cover of "The Gensokyo the Gods loved" from Touhou 10. The 2nd one is "Last Remote" from Touhou 11. 3rd one is "Fate of Sixty Years" from Touhou 9 (the final boss's theme, that shortie that lectured the sleepy one on the spider lily valley) 4th one is "Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke", the theme of Fujiwara no Mokou (The Phoenix) from Touhou 8. . But yes, they're covers made for the anime. Now to solve random questions. "Why are they fighting each other?" simply put, because Touhou. They play-fight for anything really, but there's Incidents that do require some beating (like that one with an arm cannon who was going to destroy the world with her newfound powers) "spider lilies? it's like death right?" yeah, the sleepy one (Komachi) is a shinigami (God of Death) and the ferrywoman that carries the souls to the afterlife where Shikieiki Yamaxanadu (the shortie, who's a Yama, those who judge where souls go when they die) Judges them and decides their fate (Hell, Heaven, Underworld, etc), so yeah, Komachi is basically an underling of Shikieiki, the scolding happening because Komachi slacked off and souls accumulated, manifesting as the spider lilies. "Who's the good guy?" You'd always want to root with Reimu's side (the protagonist), also there's barely any encounters where there's an "evil", they just beat each other up because of conflicting ideas or wanting to stop someone from doing something dumb. There's like less than 5 touhou characters that are strictly evil (Seiga Kaku, a necromancer and wicked hermit. Seija Kijin, who's more of a troublemaker than strictly evil, because she is all about being opposite to all really. Parsee Mizuhashi, this one is controversial because she doesn't actively seek out evil either, but she's always against anyone that approaches her because of her infinite jealousy (she has the ability to manipulate jealousness, but it also made her be jealous of all and thus is never really happy (poor her)) And maybe some others who I might not remember rn, there aren't many considering the total amount of characters there are surpasses the hundreds) Anyways that's about it because it got long enough and probably because of that no one is going to read this 😅
10:44 There are, by this point, a lot of factions in the setting, but also just a lot of independents and those who get loosely grouped together because they happen to live in the same general area. And most of them have fought each other to greater or lesser degrees, if just because that's what happens in Touhou. You may have already learned/been told this stuff since the video was posted, but here's a rundown of those that actually show up in the music videos: Hakurei Shrine - The home of the main protagonist, Hakurei Reimu. Technically she's all by herself, but she has a number of consistent allies/uninvited guests/freeloaders across the games and other media such as Kirisame Marisa the Black-White Witch, Yakumo Yukari (who is also an opponent at times, or at least a nuisance. She's the one who shows up in the eye realm in the videos, and has the frilled parasol), and the oni Ibuki Suika (the little drunkard). Scarlet Devil Mansion - The opponents from the first video. Led by the vampire Remilia Scarlet, her little sister Flandre Scarlet, time-stopping maid Izayoi Sakuya, Magician/Librarian Patchouli Knowledge (with her devil assistant/familiar Koakuma), and Gate Guard/Martial Artist Hong Meiling. Yakumo Clan - One of the most important in-setting, if due to Yukari's power and influence. Her direct subordinates are the shikigami Yakumo Ran (the kitsune), and *her* shikigami Chen (the cat girl). Associated with them is Saigyouji Yuyuko the Ghost Princess and her half-ghost bodyguard/gardener Konpaku Youmu, due to Yukari and Yuyuko being longtime friends. Eientei - Focus of the fourth video. Home of several Lunarian exiles/runaways and the youkai rabbits of the Bamboo Forest. Main figures here being the Immortal Moon Princess Houraisan Kaguya, her attendant/doctor/teacher Yagokoro Eirin, the moon rabbit Reisen Udongein Inaba (the red-eyed girl making finger guns), and leader of the Earth Rabbits Inaba Tewi. Youkai Mountai actually holds two major factions and a large number of independents. First is the Moriya Shrine which consists of the goddess of wind and rain Yasaka Kanako, goddess of mountains Moriya Suwako, and the wind priestess Kochiya Sanae. They're actually from outside Gensokyo but 'invaded' in the game they were introduced in. The other main faction there is the Tengu who don't factor much as a group as they're more isolationist. The crow-tengu newspaper reporter Shameimaru Aya is one of the more commonly seen and outgoing members, while Inubashiri Momiji the white-wolf tengu is a patrol guard. The tengu also have the river kappa such as Kawashiro Nitori as allies but only call on them when specifically needed. Otherwise the kappa just tend to spend their time inventing, growing cucumbers, and selling excess items to anyone who they can bargain with. The Underground/Old Hell has one major faction and a number of independents/"we live and work here" people. The Palace of Earth Spirits is led by Komeiji Satori (girl with the third eye) with her pets Kaenbyou Rin (red-haired catgirl) and Reiuji Utsuho (a hell raven who has the power of fusion due to eating part of a sun god). Satori's sister Komeiji Koishi wanders all over the place both above and below ground. They're all in charge of maintaining the furnaces of the currently-abandoned Hell of Blazing Fires. There is the oni Hoshiguma Yuugi who is a member of the "Four Devas/Big Four of the Mountain" alongside Suika from earlier, and thus is a major figure of sorts, but nowadays she mainly just runs the hot springs district in Old Hell. The last 'faction' doesn't have that much visible presence, but it is the Celestial Bureaucracy, specifically the Ministry of Right and Wrong. It deals with judging the souls of the dead and assigning them to heaven/hell/reincarnation. Shiki Eiki is the 'local' judge, and her subordinate Onozuka Komachi is a shinigami/death god/ferrywoman who transfers the souls of the dead to her for their judgement (Komachi is a horrible slacker, though). As I said, however, there are a bunch of others. The Human Village doesn't have a unified presence but does have several notable people. There are various named youkai, fairies, and ghosts that aren't directly associated with anyone aside from living nearby, and so forth. But this is likely already too long of a read for being this far out of date, so I should probably leave it here. Glad to see Touhou reactions, though! Always fun to watch.
The thing about Touhou is that when you really get down to it, they don't really need much of a reason to fight. Among the list of things that have caused characters to start fighting each other, we've got: - "Why can't I stop partying?" - "There are too many flowers blooming right now" - "Stop taking pictures of me!" (This one happens twice) - "The weather is _really_ weird today" - Suddenly, oil! These are all _actual_ (somewhat exaggerated) reasons that have kicked off the events of various games. It helps that everyone in Gensokyo (Touhou's setting) have all collectively agreed to a combat system where there's next to no consequences for picking fights with each other. Also, the reason we haven't gotten an official Touhou anime is because ZUN doesn't want one. He's very big on keeping Touhou close to its doujin roots, and IIRC he's concerned that an official anime would overshadow the games.
Too bad your not watching the Anime itself, luckily they aren't that long, but these songs are a big part of my life. I have them on all my playlists. And yes fan made projects for Touhou are absolutely insane. I might continually edit this comment. The openings and the anime themselves are loosely based on the plot of the games Touhou 6 on. 1st being 6 and some of 7 2nd being 11 and some of 10 3rd being mostly 9 story with some of 8 4rth being 8
I could talk all day about Touhou and I haven't even closely followed it for the last few years. I know most knowledge up to 13th main game and stopped full investment on 14. Currently there is 18 main numbered games with 19 announced. There is also a few spinoff games that tend to be fighting games. And of course, there is hundreds of fan games that are also very high quality and even monetized. I've delved into well over 30 myself.(mostly rpgs) You could bring almost any Touhou character on screen and I could tell you who they are and what they can do.
Touhou is brought to life by fans. While touhou's creator, Zun, makes touhou, fans take over and bring this series to life, which Zun basically encourages for the most part. This is to say, touhou fans go nuts. Lots of anime OPs, parodies, fan games, merchandise, music, manga/doujin and etc... Welcome to the rabbit hole. You haven't even reached the tip of this iceberg. Also this is TH-cam, take a dive into touhou on nico nico douga if you got a chance, its chaos incarnate. 1 final note, the singer is Senya, and all songs are remixes of touhou songs with lyrics on them.
There are also English lyrics versions of ``Iroha Nioedo Chirinuruwo'' and ``Kachoufuugetru'' on TH-cam. Google Translate is amazing because it allows me to understand and compose sentences even though my English was always at a low point when I was a student.
If I were to recommend something from Touhou, I would also recommend the 3D anime series uploaded to TH-cam by a person called minuts T. This is also a fan-made work, but it successfully incorporates the original STG game experience into a video work of extremely high quality.
Most of what supports Touhou is derivative work. The quality is very high and I can see that Touhou is loved very much, and I want to continue to love Touhou.
Who fights who? Answer: YES Basically all disagreements can be solved through fighting in Danmaku battles. Whether it be a friendly fight between friends or resolving an incident.

All of the OPs were sung by senya who retired from Yuuhei Satellite in 2022. But Marcia versions of the songs exist as well. Unfortunately, Yuuhei Satellite kind of imploded earlier this month and a few members including Marcia left the circle. They already had their own band 玲瓏のHydrangea since 2018 and are reviving it now. Marcia now goes by her real(?) name Ichisaki Miki. It currently seems like Yuuhei Satellite wants to reuse the "Marcia" Vtuber identity for someone else, so it's really bad timing to recommend her former channel now.

今回みたアニメ確かに東方好きが集まって作ったものなんですが素人が作ったというよりはその道についての知識が豊富な方が作ってるからクォリティが高いんですよね。
しかも今回聴いた曲を歌っている人は別の名義でも活動している歌手なのでクオリティが高くなるんですよね。

So, from memory.
The first opening is an arrange/cover of "The Gensokyo the Gods loved" from Touhou 10.
The 2nd one is "Last Remote" from Touhou 11.
3rd one is "Fate of Sixty Years" from Touhou 9 (the final boss's theme, that shortie that lectured the sleepy one on the spider lily valley)
4th one is "Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke", the theme of Fujiwara no Mokou (The Phoenix) from Touhou 8.

Now to solve random questions.
"Why are they fighting each other?" simply put, because Touhou. They play-fight for anything really, but there's Incidents that do require some beating (like that one with an arm cannon who was going to destroy the world with her newfound powers)
"spider lilies? it's like death right?" yeah, the sleepy one (Komachi) is a shinigami (God of Death) and the ferrywoman that carries the souls to the afterlife where Shikieiki Yamaxanadu (the shortie, who's a Yama, those who judge where souls go when they die) Judges them and decides their fate (Hell, Heaven, Underworld, etc), so yeah, Komachi is basically an underling of Shikieiki, the scolding happening because Komachi slacked off and souls accumulated, manifesting as the spider lilies.
"Who's the good guy?" You'd always want to root with Reimu's side (the protagonist), also there's barely any encounters where there's an "evil", they just beat each other up because of conflicting ideas or wanting to stop someone from doing something dumb. There's like less than 5 touhou characters that are strictly evil (Seiga Kaku, a necromancer and wicked hermit. Seija Kijin, who's more of a troublemaker than strictly evil, because she is all about being opposite to all really. Parsee Mizuhashi, this one is controversial because she doesn't actively seek out evil either, but she's always against anyone that approaches her because of her infinite jealousy (she has the ability to manipulate jealousness, but it also made her be jealous of all and thus is never really happy (poor her)) And maybe some others who I might not remember rn, there aren't many considering the total amount of characters there are surpasses the hundreds)

10:44 There are, by this point, a lot of factions in the setting, but also just a lot of independents and those who get loosely grouped together because they happen to live in the same general area. And most of them have fought each other to greater or lesser degrees, if just because that's what happens in Touhou. You may have already learned/been told this stuff since the video was posted, but here's a rundown of those that actually show up in the music videos:
Hakurei Shrine - The home of the main protagonist, Hakurei Reimu. Technically she's all by herself, but she has a number of consistent allies/uninvited guests/freeloaders across the games and other media such as Kirisame Marisa the Black-White Witch, Yakumo Yukari (who is also an opponent at times, or at least a nuisance. She's the one who shows up in the eye realm in the videos, and has the frilled parasol), and the oni Ibuki Suika (the little drunkard).
Scarlet Devil Mansion - The opponents from the first video. Led by the vampire Remilia Scarlet, her little sister Flandre Scarlet, time-stopping maid Izayoi Sakuya, Magician/Librarian Patchouli Knowledge (with her devil assistant/familiar Koakuma), and Gate Guard/Martial Artist Hong Meiling.
Yakumo Clan - One of the most important in-setting, if due to Yukari's power and influence. Her direct subordinates are the shikigami Yakumo Ran (the kitsune), and *her* shikigami Chen (the cat girl). Associated with them is Saigyouji Yuyuko the Ghost Princess and her half-ghost bodyguard/gardener Konpaku Youmu, due to Yukari and Yuyuko being longtime friends.
Eientei - Focus of the fourth video. Home of several Lunarian exiles/runaways and the youkai rabbits of the Bamboo Forest. Main figures here being the Immortal Moon Princess Houraisan Kaguya, her attendant/doctor/teacher Yagokoro Eirin, the moon rabbit Reisen Udongein Inaba (the red-eyed girl making finger guns), and leader of the Earth Rabbits Inaba Tewi.
Youkai Mountai actually holds two major factions and a large number of independents. First is the Moriya Shrine which consists of the goddess of wind and rain Yasaka Kanako, goddess of mountains Moriya Suwako, and the wind priestess Kochiya Sanae. They're actually from outside Gensokyo but 'invaded' in the game they were introduced in.
The other main faction there is the Tengu who don't factor much as a group as they're more isolationist. The crow-tengu newspaper reporter Shameimaru Aya is one of the more commonly seen and outgoing members, while Inubashiri Momiji the white-wolf tengu is a patrol guard. The tengu also have the river kappa such as Kawashiro Nitori as allies but only call on them when specifically needed. Otherwise the kappa just tend to spend their time inventing, growing cucumbers, and selling excess items to anyone who they can bargain with.
The Underground/Old Hell has one major faction and a number of independents/"we live and work here" people. The Palace of Earth Spirits is led by Komeiji Satori (girl with the third eye) with her pets Kaenbyou Rin (red-haired catgirl) and Reiuji Utsuho (a hell raven who has the power of fusion due to eating part of a sun god). Satori's sister Komeiji Koishi wanders all over the place both above and below ground. They're all in charge of maintaining the furnaces of the currently-abandoned Hell of Blazing Fires.
There is the oni Hoshiguma Yuugi who is a member of the "Four Devas/Big Four of the Mountain" alongside Suika from earlier, and thus is a major figure of sorts, but nowadays she mainly just runs the hot springs district in Old Hell.
The last 'faction' doesn't have that much visible presence, but it is the Celestial Bureaucracy, specifically the Ministry of Right and Wrong. It deals with judging the souls of the dead and assigning them to heaven/hell/reincarnation. Shiki Eiki is the 'local' judge, and her subordinate Onozuka Komachi is a shinigami/death god/ferrywoman who transfers the souls of the dead to her for their judgement (Komachi is a horrible slacker, though).
As I said, however, there are a bunch of others. The Human Village doesn't have a unified presence but does have several notable people. There are various named youkai, fairies, and ghosts that aren't directly associated with anyone aside from living nearby, and so forth. But this is likely already too long of a read for being this far out of date, so I should probably leave it here. Glad to see Touhou reactions, though! Always fun to watch.
The thing about Touhou is that when you really get down to it, they don't really need much of a reason to fight. Among the list of things that have caused characters to start fighting each other, we've got:
- "Why can't I stop partying?"
- "There are too many flowers blooming right now"
- "Stop taking pictures of me!" (This one happens twice)
- "The weather is _really_ weird today"
- Suddenly, oil!
These are all _actual_ (somewhat exaggerated) reasons that have kicked off the events of various games. It helps that everyone in Gensokyo (Touhou's setting) have all collectively agreed to a combat system where there's next to no consequences for picking fights with each other.
Also, the reason we haven't gotten an official Touhou anime is because ZUN doesn't want one. He's very big on keeping Touhou close to its doujin roots, and IIRC he's concerned that an official anime would overshadow the games.
Too bad your not watching the Anime itself, luckily they aren't that long, but these songs are a big part of my life. I have them on all my playlists.
And yes fan made projects for Touhou are absolutely insane.

2nd being 11 and some of 10
3rd being mostly 9 story with some of 8
4rth being 8
I could talk all day about Touhou and I haven't even closely followed it for the last few years. I know most knowledge up to 13th main game and stopped full investment on 14. Currently there is 18 main numbered games with 19 announced. There is also a few spinoff games that tend to be fighting games. And of course, there is hundreds of fan games that are also very high quality and even monetized. I've delved into well over 30 myself.(mostly rpgs) You could bring almost any Touhou character on screen and I could tell you who they are and what they can do.

Touhou is brought to life by fans. While touhou's creator, Zun, makes touhou, fans take over and bring this series to life, which Zun basically encourages for the most part. This is to say, touhou fans go nuts. Lots of anime OPs, parodies, fan games, merchandise, music, manga/doujin and etc...

If I were to recommend something from Touhou, I would also recommend the 3D anime series uploaded to TH-cam by a person called minuts T. This is also a fan-made work, but it successfully incorporates the original STG game experience into a video work of extremely high quality.

All of the OPs were sung by senya who retired from Yuuhei Satellite in 2022. But Marcia versions of the songs exist as well. Unfortunately, Yuuhei Satellite kind of imploded earlier this month and a few members including Marcia left the circle. They already had their own band 玲瓏のHydrangea since 2018 and are reviving it now. Marcia now goes by her real(?) name Ichisaki Miki. It currently seems like Yuuhei Satellite wants to reuse the "Marcia" Vtuber identity for someone else, so it's really bad timing to recommend her former channel now.
