    Omg Ty so much for this SERIOUSLY. Being “African American “ most of ancestors didn’t have the opportunity to pass down our culture traditions, languages. Recently learned I share Igbo ancestry(mostly )amongst a few others and serious about learning the language . Anyways just wanted to say thank you ❤

    Thank you so much for doing this Yvonne, please keep it up. I have been using your first video for my son as he is learning Igbo from his dad and this helps. You are so good at explaining, if you can do some short videos and even maybe well known stories with subtitles so my son (and other children) can watch I would be grateful. It's just so hard to get quality videos teaching Igbo. I am so eager for my children to learn Igbo especially so they can talk to their grandmother who doesn't speak English. I find Africans are generally poor at passing down their languages to their children.

    Love your helpful content! One question: The i with the dot below you pronounce differently in Aziza than in Fikoro. Sometimes you pronounce the i with dot like the letter e, sometimes like the letter i. I hope you get the difference I mean. When should I know how to pronounce the i with the dot below?

      Get them ( him and his mum and family) to slow down and teach you!
      TH-cam is fantastic for cooking videos . Well done and I wish you the very best for the future .

      To further buttress what she said:
      In Igbo, the sounds of the letters are their very names.
      Further Explanation:
      Unlike in English where the letters of the alphabet can sound differently when in use, e.g 'E' and 'Egg', 'F' and 'Fill', and can even change sounds depending on the word e.g 'A' and 'Apple', 'Ace', 'Aeroplane', in Igbo, each letter have to sound exactly the same, in the alphabet and when in use (when spelling and forming words) and must maintain the same original sound always. For vowels, the sounds (which are also the names of the letters) are the same as given in the video. For consonants and double consonants, we add a weak 'eh' sound (as you heard in the video) to their ends to help us vocalize them, when we spell them out/pronounce them singly (Those pronunciations are the names of those letters as well). When those consonants/double consonants are used in words, we drop off that weak 'eh' because we now have vowels following them to pronounce them with.
      Hope that helped.

    @LearnIgbo I'm having trouble pronouncing the N with a dot over it. Is there a way you can spell it phonetically for me. For example if a foreigner asked me to phonetically spell the letter 'K' I would tell them it makes the "Kuh" sound.

    • @LearnIgbo
      @LearnIgbo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The easiest way to pronounce it is to say the English “ing” , like saying, reading, jumping, looking, etc . Ing is the exact sound for the Igbo alphabet n with a dot on top.
