Love your vintage paperbacks. Long ago in 1997 when I read my first King novel (The Stand) I instantly became a fan and struggled with the question of what order to read his books in. I decided to go semi-chronologically and read most of his early books first, but also jumping ahead at times to get a sample of his books in other eras.
I'm currently doing the chronological re-read, and I'm up to Christine, one of my favourites, but soon I have to do the Talisman which I have not yet read 😬
Hey, you might love The Talisman - millions of Constant Readers do! It just didn’t click for me. Christine is super fun though - enjoy having another ride in that terrifying car!
I've always wanted to see a reading in TIMELINE order. Like all the books you could get the dates/years of and just put it in a line from beginning to end. For example starting with the Jerusalem lot and ending in the jaunt or one of the bachman books that are in the future. I hope that makes sense lol.
I would you do a video where you put the books in Stephen King timeline, like what story is the earliest story versus what you did here which was release date.
Yo Dave! Love your channel. Just stumbled upon some info about one of the earliest SK works. Any chance you have had a chance to explore "I Was A Teenage Grave Robber" (aka In A Half World of Terror)? I can't seem to find it anywhere and I'm curious. Cheers!
I heard that King didnt make connections between his books until the Dead Zone when Carrie the movie is mentioned. Carrie takes place in Chamberlain and Chamberlain is mentioned in Salem's Lot. So does Salem's Lot take place before the events of Carrie?
Well, the Carrie reference in the Dead Zone is mentioning the Carrie movie. And Carrie in set in 79, I think, whereas the Lot is set in 75. Chamberlain is part of King’s Maine - think it also gets a mention in the Body - but Carrie itself doesn’t really seem to figure in his wider multiverse
Great question! I’m going to do a parallel read of *both* which will probably drive me insane but I’ve never read the original version so I’m very excited to try it!
Given that I missed it off this video - oops! - you won’t be surprised to know I wasn’t its biggest fan! A good idea, but the execution I found to be flat
@@DaveReadsKing aw dang that sucks. I'm reading it right now, and it reads beautifully. Like an essay on the character more than a story. Good day, Dave!
@cassiemainella6515 AHA! That makes more sense 😂 so UR is collected in the Bazaar of Bad Dreams - a book I really like and that I think is kind of slept on by King fans
Everyone has the same King collection. Only most folks, myself included, have had it for over a decade or more. Now every book critique douche does in the background, as if their backdrop makes them qualified to bitch about something they can't do. Once everyone is special, no one is. Or, once everyone has this collection, it means nothing. Also, I love how this video says, HOW TO READ THEM IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.....as if this requires instruction.
I’m just making a video that plenty of people have already enjoyed and found useful, and I liked having the opportunity to show off some of my collection that I’ve spent the last decade and a half building. I’m sorry for whatever has happened to you today for you to be so miserable and ratty about all this prompting such a bitter and snarky comment - I hope you feel better soon.
@@DaveReadsKing not bitter. Happy all day, jazzy in fact. Just calling a culturally parasitic spade a culturally parasitic spade. Try making something. Deconstruction is not an act of construction. And just cuz you can find a mob of morons online who appreciate what you do, that doesn't make it inherently noble or a true act of creation. The same could be said about cult leaders and white supremacists. Sure they can galvanize a lot of people online to their cause, but that just means that the landscape of consumer consumption has become god-awful. Feeding that need is not good. wow your stephen king book collection is insane! i love it
Thank you! I’m planning a full shelf tour soon so you can see the whole lot!
❤️❤️❤️today I picked up the dark half and nightmares and dreamscapes looking forward to reading them
Excellent!
Brilliant video and idea. Well done.
Thanks!
Great stuffz, currently watching the movies in order.
Movies in order of their release or in order of their original book release??
I’m doing the for my coverage of them on this channel! Where are you up to?
I'm doing them in order of movie/adaptation release date, currently at thinner.
@eswarrior nice! Thinner was a lot of fun…and a great King cameo too!

Niiice
Dave makes an almost hour long video giving short introductions to a bunch of books I have already read, you say? I'll make some popcorn.
🍿🍿🍿🍿
I needed this list! Thx
You’re very welcome!
I'd love to see a biographic movie on Stephen King's life
Same!

Makes total sense and sounds like one hell of a project! Leave it with me!
@@DaveReadsKing He responded!!
@SkylerDomnitz-xt8nu of course! I get round to all of them eventually 😊

Oh wow, that would be something! I’ll put it on my list of ideas!

I’ve read it online somewhere. It’s also in a 90s book called First Words, which pulls together the first stories from loads of different authors
You should do a scene of the most out of nowhere scenes in Stephen king books.
Nice!
I arranged all my Stephen king books in chronological order but I’ve done that with my cds and dvds
All of my physical media is alphabetical by artist then chronological 👍

Which version of The Stand do you think you’ll tackle in your current re-read?

@@DaveReadsKing That’s awesome! Very interested to hear your thoughts on the original version.
I know you don't like Talisman/Black House. But they have MAJOR ties to the Dark Tower series. I actually really enjoyed them.
Oh I know - they feature in my Dark Tower guide I made a few years ago…still don’t like them though 😂
@@DaveReadsKing but, RIGHT HERE AND NOW
:Stephen King is my favorite author and I write everyday I want to be just like him and follow my dreams
Nice! Good luck!

Wait, did you forget roadwork? I’ve got a terrible short-term memory so I could be wrong.
You know, I think you’re right! FFS 😂😂
More Holly, More Better!
Well to agree to disagree there 😂
Did you skip over Roadwork in 1981?
Yep, looks like I did! Oops - such a dull book I forgot it existed!
@ great video tho!! You helped me tighten up my own list, thanks man!
You’re welcome!
First comment, I better be famous now
You are totally famous!
Start with the first one and end with his most recent one. You'll be reading for a while.
You certainly will!
