What has always amazed me about King's writing is that it draws me in as if I were actually an observer just standing off to the side out of sight. It's as if I'm right there. His short stories and novellas are every bit as immersive - I can't get enough of his writing.
His stuff is based on the fears we all have in some form or another. He can take mundane things and scare the crap out of you. With me, it's CLOWNS!!!! I hate them. And PENNYWISE---OMG!!!!!!
i agree with him 100% because i love to write poetry i've never submitted but i will someday & on how i write which is what i think how he writes whatever comes to mind for me i could be listening to a song or i hear a title of a song an an idea comes to me. i'd say King is pretty Similar but there are plenty of my poems and i've written at least over 200 or close to it by now a little of myself i think some of them are personal but not all of them.
This man has a sharp and perfect view in the human mind, and the line of story-telling is out of this world ... i've read thousants of books the last 55 years, but King gives me chills and tears every time i read his books. He is a living legend and a never empty source of story's and personality's. With all my respect ... thank you.
Im 50 yrs old and read "It" when I was 11. That was the beginning of my Stephen King obsession. So grateful my Mother ,GrandMother and Aunt taught me to love to read.
I read that book when I was a couple of years older...and it scared the bejeebies out of me! Sometimes I was afraid to turn the page, haha. That story still scares me. (Didn't stop me from reading more of his novels though)
Cujo was my first King book, with Carrie soon after. My best friend’s mom was reading It and I was reading over her arm. So she pointed me to her books and (after checking with my parents) let me pick one. I’ve never looked back.

Been reading Stephen King since 1976( Carrie), love his books, my favorites are The Shining , Dolores Claiborne, Four Seasons , The Green Mile ,and Skeleton Crew , Stephen King is The Master , I will never stop reading his books...
A truly amazing and talented writer! My goal is to collect all of his writings and books. Once I retire, I will certainly not be bored! One of my favorites is "Under the Dome". The events in his books always makes me think, hmmm, an interesting possibility. Just received my "Holly" book, which really made my day. Keep the books coming, Mr. King, your followers are loving it!
IT was the first full Stephen King novel I read as a kid. A KID. Over 1000 pages of terror. I have no idea what the first movie I seen based on his books, but I've literally seen them all. Such a great person and a great wealth of horror knowledge inside that head.
Salem's Lot was the first of King's works that I read and I've been hooked ever since. One thing I can say about his books is that they are the only ones I've gone back to read again, like saying hello to an old friend.
I read Salem’s Lot many moons ago and every night before I went to bed I looked under my bed and in my closet. And I avoided the basement at all costs.
Excellent interview! Jeff is clearly a fan and Steve met that with as much honesty and genuineness as I have probably ever seen from him in an interview like this. This was a real treat for everyone, including me. Well done! (And "Holly" is great, too!)
I also started reading because of King. My first book, however, was Pet Semitary and it was in the 5th grade which is why I know that King wrote many huge blockbusters before Misery. He had even been a movie star and written screen plays by then. Some of those books, which I also read, included The Stand, Christine, Carrie, Cujo, the Bachman Books, Thinner... I was such a prolific King reader, I knew I was getting a book from someone every holiday (I was given It when I turned 16 by my friend Cortez) and English teachers would ask, "Which Stephen King will your book report be on this time?" So incredible to see him keep producing. Thank you for all the great stories you've given us.
Guess what? I opened my audio book app. Seen the book Holly. Got the book, one of many Stephen King books in my library. I cannot wait to go on this journey.
Its really calming and reassuring to discover that Stephen actuallu never maps out his books or plans what he wants to get down on the page, shows hiw much of a brilliant and instinctive writer he is. As an aspiring writer myself it really helps to know im not alone in not mapping a story out.
Awesome! So glad he's back at it! I'll be buying this book for sure! Thank you Mr. King, we love you!!! Soooo proud and happy for you that you got through the addictions. You're stronger than you think
I read The Shining when I was young. It’s still the scariest book I have ever read. Back in the day no one knew who he was. He scared all the kids and teens in the 80’s. ❤
We were camping over Halloween weekend a few years ago in our comfy small RV on a wonderfully pitch black, cool, rainy October night in Western Ohio. We brought Pet Sematary on dvd to watch that Friday night after setting up and having a late dinner. A little over halfway through the film and snug in bed, the whole RV started sliding off the front jack blocks like we were being pushed by something! Freaked us right out like nothing else!!! (After the initial shock, I figured it was a prank by teenage kids - and/or Bigfoot - but, alas, the front stackable jack blocks are plastic, it was rainy and slick, we were parked on a very slight incline, and we had decided to not deploy the four manual stabilizer feet until the next morning in dryer weather. That was the mistake. Walking inside the RV had caused the front jack to begin to slip off the blocks in the wet. Lesson learned.)
I started as young, I’m now 65. But I also liked John carpenter who was our Brit version of Steve, but more verbose /blush. Stephen also turned more books into movies. Great fun. Thank you Stephen :)
The scariest thing I ever read (actually listened to) was King’s short story “The Man in the Black Suit.” I think the hairs on my neck got pretty close to standing on end. OK, the narration was spot on, but it was King’s words, the setting, the character of the young boy, scared out of his wits by seeing the face of evil. So perfectly written.

Stephen King is not the only horror writer you know. There is a whole new generation of authors out there and yet y’all only give a platform to the same damn rotating wheel of authors. Why does no one want to embrace anything new? This goes for Hollywood too. We don't need another Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Chronicles of Narnia. Respect the old, but please at least acknowledge the new.

Love him so much!
"King says he won't stop until God stops him" 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Stephen King is not the only horror writer you know.
Love his work!!
Same! 50 yrs old now and read IT at 11. 😊
I've been putting off writing because I can't outline a plot, either. It's reassuring to know it's not necessary!
Great interview
Stephen king is the master brilliant writer and human being. I'm a big fan.
Proof that authors don't always get better the older they get.
He has outdone himself. I adore Holly it is amazing
I read my first Stephen King when I was 14. I already loved scary stories and horror films, and at school one day I saw a kid reading a book that had a girl's face covered in blood on the cover. I knew I had to read it. But I like old school King. I like Carrie, The Shining, Christine, Pet Semetary, Cujo, Firestarter, etc. I stopped reading him around the time of From a Buick 8.
I am reading it. Thanks my king❤
