      @@b42thomas And if you don't agree your part of the problem. If your white you just don't get it.
      "defund the police" does have an ideology to it. Its about reducing funding spent on police departments and putting that into other systems meant to reduce and prevent crimes through better education, housing, and stuff.
      I actually think thats a pretty good one to have come out of all of this. Even though i believe if we start reducing funding on police they are just going to try and come out and take it from us in other ways.
      we do have an over policing problem in this country. In the video of george floyds death one officer joked "thats why you dont do drugs kids" And Officer chauvin said they were restraining him because he was scared of "excited delirium".
      I personally think we should be chanting "end the war on drugs" because i think its the side effects of that that are causing so much grief. Its hard for people to admit how much that is actually a HUGE part of this problem. A ton of police funding comes through incentives to crack down on drug use, and through civil forfeiture.

      Call the DNC during normal business hours at 1-202-863-8000 if you want Andrew Yang to be the keynote speaker at this year’s Democratic convention. This will up the ante at him getting the nomination in 2024, or possibly this year if Yang manages to pull a James Garfield, who managed to secure the Republican nomination in 1880, even though he was not even running for president! Garfield nominated somebody else at a speech at the convention. But the crowd liked him so much he got nominated instead, and later won the presidency. Unfortunately, he was assassinated after only having been president a few months in 1881. He might well have been a great president had he lived, according to historians.

    • @runthenumbers9698
      @runthenumbers9698 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's because the lion's share of the hurt and anger is self-inflicted. Y'all are focusing on the MARGINAL cases as though it's relevant to policing as a whole. It's not.
      If you are black and you fear for the lives of your black children when they encounter police... tell them this.
      "Shut the fuck up and comply with arrest. If you have any problems with it, talk to a lawyer AFTER you shut the fuck up. If you resist arrest, you better PRAY that the cops whoop your ass before I do."
      That's what my parents taught me. I've been arrested twice (once wrongfully, once for an unpaid ticket I thought I'd paid). When I was wrongfully arrested, I said, "You've got the wrong guy, but I'm going to cooperate fully. I have nothing else to say until my lawyer is present."
      It never got to my lawyer though. They sorted things out on their own time, and an hour later, I was fucking my girlfriend.
      Here's the list of people who would still be alive if they didn't resist arrest/threaten harm to police.
      George Floyd
      Ahmaud Arberry
      Eric Garner
      John Crawford
      Michael Brown
      Ezell Ford
      Dante Parker
      Michelle Cusseaux
      Laquan McDonald
      George Mann
      Tanisha Anderson
      Akai Gurley
      Tamir Rice
      Rumain Bribson
      Jerame Ried
      These are just the first 15 names on a list of about 100 "victims" in the last 10 years. I don't have time to research them all. I can't be sure that all 100 names resisted arrest, but I'll tell you this. So far, we're at 15 of 15. Batting 1000 baby.
      Show me a list of black people who DID NOT RESIST ARREST yet were brutalized by police. Let's see how many names you can compile... but while your at it, lemme put the first name on the list for you.
      Daniel Shaver: Race- White. Killed while complying with police requests in a hotel hallway.Guess what... NOT GUILTY!
      This black victim complex we keep feeding is about to devour us all. If you don't want to die at the hands of police... don't commit crimes... and don't resist arrest. If you don't want to die at the hand of black gangs... not quite so easy.

    • @anewagora
      @anewagora 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On the local level, I've been working on solutions for 5 years with a police brutality organization, in my work and my personal life. If you're only paying attention to news then you won't be focused on solutions or people coming together. It has to be local. I'm in the Twin Cities where this started. George Floyd's memorial is blocks away from the org I work with. We've been working on a paper for 2 years that shows the need for police to stop responding to mental health and trauma calls, and have those professionals respond instead.

      @HMSBlackPrince That probably is a factor, but there are other factors too. I think Yang has the brains, mindset and temperament for the job, but he had no former political experience. My guess is that predjudice about his lack of previous political experience was more prominent than predjudice about his race. I think the DNC probably felt like the stakes were too high to gamble it on a newcomer. Remember Obama did get chosen and then elected, even though people had doubts that an African-American could win, but he also had senatorial experience. If Yang runs again in 2024, things may be different, and I hope he does.

Ending the Pentagon-Police program is fine, but if by demilitarization you mean disarming them, then I disagree.

      @@Xpistos510 My city just spent 20 million to buy an armored vehicle because it was on sale. When asked how often they needed such a vehicle the police dept said they needed one only 3x in the past 10 years. They normally borrow one from a neighboring city, but they felt that this 20 million was money well spent so that we wouldn't need to rely on our neighbors.
      I would say spending 20 million for something that you'll only use 3x in the next decade is pretty wasteful spending. You could've increased the budget of some other social program by 2 million a year.

    @gashinshotan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yang stole Zoltan itsvans platform verbatim. He doesn’t care about people, he just wants power. “The near-term socioeconomic forecasts are pretty startling when you look closely at them. The Washington Post recently ran an essay pointing out that 3.5 million truck drivers are poised to lose their jobs when the trucking industry becomes driverless (which could start happening in about five years, I believe). The trucking industry is just one of hundreds of sectors that could become significantly automated within a decade.” - Zoltan Itsvan in 2015. Yang stole his ideas and even Zoltan’s example of truck drivers being heavily impacted by automation. Yang doesn’t care about humanity, he’s just using UBI to make money - just because humanity forward is a non-profit doesn’t mean that he’s not getting paid a salary for it. Yang also made a killing off his books during his run. Everything he does is self-serving - he didn’t support AOC during her election or walk with BLM protestors because that wouldn’t generate revenue for him, yet he claims to be a progressive candidate and cares about humanity. Yang gang is a cult, and several Asian members (I’m Asian btw) have told me that they only supported Yang because he’s asian, so there is a theme of Asian supremacy also. Yang will never become president, this is a fact, and he’s using his run and humanity forward for financial gain.

      A multi-racial panel? How about just a panel of people who understand the problem. Allegations of bias will still happen no matter the racial composition of this panel. You don’t want to be like Lebanon where if the president is a Christian the head of the legislature has to be a Muslim. Tokenism is a bad strategy to achieve political goals.

    • @anewagora
      @anewagora 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, those things already exist and do nothing, except the independent panel review and that sounds disastrous. Who is going to be on this panel? By the time governments even approve something like that you're just creating more government- more panels, more bureacracy, more red tape and complications that make us all more disempowered. I can imagine in the Twin Cities where this happened, it would be all social justice and that's dangerous.
      You forget that police are required by their jobs to force people to do things. This not only denies the reality of autonomy but disrespects it. It's a direct contradiction to tell them simultaneously to respect human life and simultaneously not.

    I’m excited about people having intelligent conversations about solutions based on data and respectful toward our (generally) shared values as citizens / human beings. We’re never going back to “the good old days”, that weren’t so good for black Americans, who still lack (in general terms) the privileges of white America, e.g. feeling safe and generally protected by norms and the legal system while interacting with law enforcement. Making America great, perhaps for the first time, would mean significantly progressing the economic condition of all Americans and inspiring more of us to engagement in a political process that we feel truly represents us and celebrates our diversity.
    I miss seeing Andrew on the campaign trail; he will still make for one of our best Presidents, in the order of Lincoln and Washington.
    God bless.

      One of Yang's main proposals was to legalize marijuana and dismiss the low level offenses in a mass pardon. Not to mention his proposals for safe injection/consumption sites for those suffering from addiction- dealers still going to jail but those addicted being able to receive the help they need without legal repercussions.

    The part of me that just loves policy is always relieved to hear concrete ideas from Yang. Data wise... I would ask Black news media to create a list "best American cities to be Black". And this is because I keep feeling like we need to tackle some issues where the white community, even with the best intentions, may never have the ability to fully see the problem. We live in a system that has been taught to hide racism, so I think the people who can see the problem have to run the measurement equipment. I get why we focus on problems, but what if we talked about being the most welcoming? Most safe? Best health outcomes? Best housing? Why not?

    @yangspeaks I was thinking about what you say about aligning incentives with policy.
    How about making it so the money getting spent on settlements isn't just falling on the tax payer. All cops pay individual "cop insurance" Must be paid by each officer after probation period. But 3 Strikes and you lose your privilege to be a cop.
    Because it is a privilege and a high stress important job, not a right.
    Taxpayer money saved can be split. Some can go to other things like better training, better pay for cops, community outreach, ect,...

    Just floating these proposals out there:
    1. A nationwide Hippocratic Oath for all Police Officers which should include that there primary duty is to protect the lives of the citizens they are sworn to serve with property being a secondary concern, a promise to do no unnecessary harm, to be willing and able to intervene against fellow police and render immediate aid to those being victimized even by fellow police, etc.
    2. Permanent Independent Use-of-Force Review Boards in each department and a Nationwide Police-Use-of-Force Record for each officer and department
    3. Following from point 2, A Standardized Nationwide Use-of-Force Liability Metric as Incentive Pay/Promotion Mechanism for use of de-escalatory/non-lethal police practices on both a department and individual basis.
    4. Mandatory nationwide de-escalatory/non-lethal methods training and police history/abuse of power courses
    5. Make bodycams not turned on on-duty police officers a federal crime
    6. Make it a federal crime for accompanying police to not intervene in and render immediate aid to victims of abuse-of-lethal-force incidents
    7. Eliminate or Narrow Qualify Immunity
    8. Restrictions on Acquisition & Use of Riot Control Gear & Vehicles

    I live in a small community of maybe 12,000 people. The city budget goes like this Police 20%; Administration 7%; Judicial 4%; Fire dept 4%; Community relations 1%. Now yes, we have water 16%; sewer 16% and garbage 14% all necessary and many costs are fixed. But by far the contrast between Police @20% and community relations 1%. I'm assuming Fire also contains emt ambulance using only 4% The only relations I know of is during xmas if we donate $100 to the police they send an officer with a family to buy xmas. There is also a volunteer community watch and they have a marked car that has radio contact with the police. That's it. I'm sure much more happens with some police who take it upon themselves to hang out where the high school age kids hang out and are for the kids assembling. There's a local market where all seem to be welcome to hang out if fact on the 4th they stay open all night and maybe new years eve. But these are all volunteer. Maybe some of the police 20% could be used to give more relation between police and citizens. That way the money could still stay in the police dept. but many more citizen contacts could take place. Last year I was given a notice to clear out weeds in my yard and my son next door the same thing. No direct instruction as to just how this field (almost 2 acres i share with my son) should look afterward. I had already cut away from the rear of my house and any out front, Now, I never heard back from them but my son who's yard looks much nicer with his permafarming, but he did have piles from a tree trimmer he hadn't spread out yet. They hounded him and he lost 4 days of work for court and the final court was in March this year. In the end he had took pics etc to prove his case and so the complaint was dropped. This was over fucking weeds. In a very rural community many have ag zoning for horses and other animals.

    I would push to legislate for laws that require absolute transparency. All police required to wear Eye Cams that will be streamed in realtime to a publicly viewable stream across all social media platforms right as the police are dealing with an incidence. Any police not complying or has been found to not obstruct this transparency laws in any manner and/degree will be immediately prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

    Why do they only have liquor store & liquor store after liquor store that's what they wake up too that's not cool!

    Why do American local governments have their own police departments anyway? There's something like 15,000 [defacto] independent local police agencies in the US (18,000 including federal agencies, college campus patrols and other assorted not normally considered local law enforcement - one agency per ~18,000 people).
    This makes standardisation of recruitment, training and equipment difficult and leads to inequitable funding across different regions.
    You know how many police agencies there are in the UK? 43-48 - one agency per ~1,400,000 people)
