    This is the antenna I've been using for about 5 years now along with a high-gain (30 dB) preamp. I live about 70 miles west of Baltimore and DC. Antenna is pointed right at the midpoint of the 2 cities and I pull in 90+ channels from both areas combined including some local stations about 20 miles north from here. Realistically when you take out all the duplicate channels (same shows coming from different stations), it's maybe about 50 distinct channels. Pretty darn good.

    • @zrrifle.
      @zrrifle. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not really. Hills separate us (mainly the Appalachian Trail) from the DC and Baltimore areas. In my situation the high gain preamplifier is a must, without it I only pull in around 15 channels.

    This video is just a couple weeks late for me. I bought this and the Juice preamp and installed it last week. In my area there are Detroit stations 40 miles to the south and Saginaw stations 40 to the north. I can position this facing southeast and pick up both the Detroit channels and the Saginaw channels from the Northwest. I knew that would be the case because we've been using a big Channel master UHF antenna for nearly 15 years. With the new setup, though, I'm also getting the High VHF channels that I wasn't getting with the UHF ChannelMaster. Much smaller and attractive, too. Plus, I should have room on the same mast for StarLink. The videos you produce are very informative and well-done. I appreciate your efforts.

    I've been using this antenna for about 3 years now and it works very well on UHF stations within 50 miles. 2 of my main stations are high VHF and 60 LOS miles away which this antenna would not pick up. Clear Stream recommended the 5 max which I added and picks up the VHF stations very well. I'm happy with the reception I get, but became a little pricey having to use both together.

    I have this antenna. My apartment is on the 2nd floor and I have the antenna set up on a TV tripod in the corner of my small kitchen. I live alone so it's not like anyone is going to complain about the space it takes up. It works well. It's funny how the surrounding atmosphere can change what channels I can get. Sometimes two of my regular local channels will stop coming in at night I will then start picking up all the Milwaukee Channels on my TV which is about 100 miles away. By morning they will be gone again and my regular channels will be back.

      I hear ya! And don't move the furniture. But that's my signal problem from 43 miles away and not line of sight. I put mine on a glorified coat rack with pads and move it as needed. I think the fridge cycle interferes with my weak station when it clicks on. You might make a reflector to block interference. Oh, the local channels might be overamplified as signals send clearer at night. Did you try pivoting it?

    I've been using a cheap Esky174 antenna for the past 6 years and it has worked fine. DFW TX area. ( as long as the signal is boosted). My signal had started to degrade and the plastic had started to fall apart. I picked up this antenna since I have only one VHF channel with the rest UHF. VHF has given me some issues in the past, but this new antenna picks it up just fine. I started with 85 stations on the old antenna and ended up with 105 with the new antenna and no add on booster. Very impressed with this new antenna. Thanks Tyler !!!

    Thank-you for taking the confusion out of OTA antennas! I installed the newer version of this antenna (Clearstream 4v max) inside the loft of my barn feeding the signal to an AirTV Anywhere device delivering stations 50+ miles away. I estimate the antenna to be only 18' high; regardless the signal being delivered is strong for all channels and they load fast. Thanks again for the info!

    Sling sent Air TV 2 no charge when Locast went off air. The freebie antenna included received all VHF and UHF channels I wanted, with the exception of WFLA which is NBC. Strange as all the stations fall within the same narrow gain pattern and same distance, yet only NBC doesn’t come in. Hoping between antenna point app and rabbit ears, along with this antenna, will solve that issue!

    I have the 2x one. It's a miracle worker! I added a small booster. It gets signals downtown that are bounced off buildings in front of me. I have no line of sight to my towers. I put the antenna inside on a glorified coat rack pole, so I can move it. Antennas Direct recently told me I don't need the 4x because in my unique situation where I need a wide sweep to catch my elusive signals the 4x is stronger but is slightly narrower in focus. I need the opposite. It might be an improvement, but also might be more finicky for me. Mine is already pretty finicky to get the 43 mile signal from another country. But that's the channel I like. I've tried and returned a few antennas (directional, huge bow tie) which did not do as well as my Antennas Direct. It's a rock star.

    Just wanted to thank you for this review - similar to another commenter, I am in the Seattle market and about 16 miles from the towers on Queen Anne with some trees in the area. I had a crappy indoor antenna with a junk preamp that was pulling in the atsc 1.0 UHF stations (KIRO, KING, KOMO) at about 80-90 on my atsc3 HD HomeRun in good weather and about 20 points lower in bad weather, so I occasionally lost signal in the winter. The VHF station (KCPQ) in Bremerton, 38 miles away, was in the 40s and so I relied on a lower resolution transmission on KMYQ to get that with the junk antenna. The atsc3 stations were solidly 100, but they often have problems with the transmissions, particularly KIRO.
    This antenna pulls all the UHF stations in at 100 strength/quality and KCPQ VHF 13 in Bremerton registers in the low 90s-high 80s. I'm very happy with this model. So is the wife in terms of appearance, so this is a win-win all around.

    I installed one of these at my apartment in Glens Falls, NY on the side porch eve as I’m not about to go on a steep metal roof. It works great, picks up local repeaters WRGB & WNYT on nearby West Mountain but it also pulls in WTEN & WXXA from Albany. These two stations are owned by Nextstar so there’s no local repeaters. WMHT-PBS also comes in. At 1st WXXA which is on RF 8 didn’t come in until I lowered the VHF Dipole to the bottom of the array. It comes in fine now along with Vermont PBS on RF 10 which is in opposite direction to the northeast. The dipole is able to pull in stations that are in opposite direction from my place, gotta love it. I’m a retired electronic tech, I use to fix TV’s & install antennas back in HS, love this stuff & screw cable…

    Just bought mine at black Friday. I chose it mainly because of where I live, how long I plan to live at my current residence and what I want to pick up, it seems like it will be the best. Basically I plan on moving in the next 2 years so I don't want to invest in a wiring an antenna to the roof or attic, but the winter Olympics is next year and my wife really likes the CBC commentary and we can only get it if I put my rabbit ears in a very specific location on my balcony, and being along the Canadian boarder we naturally get not nice weather in the winter and I don't want to leave my rabbit ears out in the snow and rain (they're powered rabbit ears), so this seemed like it would be the best option (small profile outdoor antenna, could be mounted to a stand of sorts and left in the snow without trouble, but also could be brought in when not in use and mounted permanently when I eventually move).

    I've been using this antenna for 2 years. I have about 38ft of RG6 cable and a Channel Master CM-7777HD pre-amp set to the low +17db setting. The pre-amp didn't make that big a difference than when using it without. I have it in the attic also pointed at the midpoint between DC and Baltimore. I've had scans with over 90 channels from DC (60 miles away) and Baltimore (85 miles away). This Antenna is one of the best I've ever seen for UHF and if you compare how it does to the Antennas Direct DB8E and the Televes DAT BOSS MIX on THIS channel, it outperformed both of them. After buying the 4V, I went through the trouble of buying and testing the Channel Master EXTREMEtenna 80 and it didn't even come close to the ClearStream 4V with reflector. The only way I think you could *possibly* do better for UHF frequencies is to have a really large external antenna. I think one important element is that you must have the reflector (shown in this videos review) because Antenna's Direct sells a version of the ClearStream 4V without the reflector (I think it's called the 4V Max) and that component makes a huge difference. I'm thinking of combining this with the ClearStream 5 VHF antenna to maximize both VHF and UHF reception.
    I would really like to see Tyler re-test the Channel Master CM-5020 Deep Fringe Masterpiece Long Range 100 Mile antenna from his CURRENT/NEW testing location. That would be valuable information to compare to other antennas.

    I have this very ClearStream antenna. It worked well when it was just 7 feet off the ground. My thinking was moving it to 14 feet off the ground would make it even better. It did NOT. I am approximately 10 miles from the broadcast towers with all of them within 5 degrees of each other. I am stupified at how directional this antenna is. Yes, I said directional. Moving it just a couple of degrees (less than 10, probably around 5) loses signals from the broadcast towers which would be close enough to see if not for the trees. Odd, I get something like 77-84 digital channels on certain days, then just hours later only get 70.
    I'm considering the Channel Master EXTREMEtenna 80 to replace it.

    I think comparing to the last antenna, which this time was 0, is a flawed concept.
    I think everyone including yourself would be better served by comparing antenna's to one another using a fringe signal, one on uhf and another on vhf. If this isn't possible maybe you could insert a pad inline to get an antenna you know to be a middling performer on the fringe then use this pad on every antenna tested then see visually if the antenna is about the same , better than, or worse than middle of the road.
    I know that you do alot of work bringing these video's to youtube and its easy for everyone to criticize everything and everyone has big ideas and talk is cheap.Thanks for what you do and know that your channel has helped me sort through my antenna t.v. problems and kept my better half happy watching General Hospital on a windy day with thanks going to you and some time and effort.

      I have always compared the results of each antenna to the last two antennas I reviewed. If someone wants to see how a certain fringe antenna I reviewed compares to another antenna they have to watch the other videos. That's mainly how my channel is supported - by views. It's like if a TV station didn't release any other episodes of a series but the finale. They'd go out of business.

    • @seregener
      @seregener 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AntennaMan The pair of antennas you compared this one with were a bad choice. Both of them were not relevant. I get it - you want more views. But by intentionally showing bad comparisons, you may drive viewers away as well.

      @AntennaMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seregener It was not intentional. It was the last two antennas I happened to review. That's the way it's always been and always will be. If someone doesn't want to do the research they can sign up for an antenna recommendation on my website.

    I am looking at this antenna for a roof top unit. I am about 35 to 40 miles from a lot of towers and have several only 10-15 miles away. I also looked at a PBD UHD-8903. The PBD seems to look well made. I am skeptical of Amazon reviews and wondered if you had tested this PBD model and if so how did it perform. By the time I by a mount for the PBD it will be almost the same cost as the Clear stream 4v. Looking forward to your input. thanks

    Had lot of issues with other cheaper antenna's which have been featured on this channel where a hammer was used to bust them up. This one worked perfectly receiving all channels without any pixilation at all. The channels in my area are all UHF range wasn't any real need to high gain VHF antenna I just needed something that was good quality.

    I have the older 2V model. The one without the backscreen. It has served me well enough for my location. But for some reason one of my stations has gotten weaker. I have the antenna mounted at the peak of my 2 story roof so not easy to access without 2 ladders. I went up to repoint it a few weeks back but the reception actually got worse...for that one channel. It also happens to be the furthest transmitter. I can pull it in fine with the tuners on my Tablo Quad but not my main LG 4k TV. Same antenna feed collocated with my main tv. So I ordered the 4V reviewed here(through your Amazon link) hoping that will help with that one broadcast station. I really don't think I need a pre-amp due to location. RG-6 Quad, etc. But am getting ready to install a normal 4 output amp for a whole house feed.
    All my other stations are much closer so not as challenging. I really need some a manual tuner.

    I have a question, I’m looking to cut the cord but due to some limitations I can’t mount an antenna on the roof, it has to go in the attic. With that said, the roof has a radiant barrier on the underside in the attic. Will this prevent or weaken any signal ? If so is there anyway around the issue.

    Thanks for the review. I purchased this antenna, not for TV, but for a police scanner. A couple of questions you might know the answer to. Is the antenna polarization Horizontal? If I want to put a better VHF antenna into the combiner, does the combiner pass only VHF or anything I put into that port?? The antenna does have quite an improvement on my scanner. I did rotate it 90 degrees thinking it was made for horz and I need vertical. Thanks again. John

I've contacted the installer he said that due to the rain he won't be able to come out until Monday. Now I'm believing that I made a big mistake because if rain effects the picture what's going to happen when it snows. I know this hasn't any barings on my location but, I live in the Philadelphia area. My antenna is supposed to be facing Roxborough towers. I'm very concern that I've waisted my money. What can I do?

    I am a great sceptic of all internet information. So I was very pessimistic that this really works. I also never write reviews -- but here I am.
    The ClearStream 4V is nothing short of amazing. I pulled the coaxial from my TV into my attic behind the drywall, and placed the antenna facing the direction North to North-East towards several large studios/network antennas some 35 miles away. The signal has to travel through one wood and stucco wall, several large trees, and then unobstructed 35 miles through the air.
    Before, with the little $20 letter size window antenna, I had about 20 stations, but no NBC and Fox and shitty ABC. With this Antenna, I immediately ended up with about 85 channels, in addition to a bunch of channels I get via IP. I have all the network stations, and a bunch of other channels (OK, too many Love Boat Channels, Magnum PIs, and shopping networks). The antenna sits well protected from wind and elements -- and invisible -- in my attic and no one knows it is even there. And no more cable bills.
    And the picture and sound qualities are impressive. I am not paid by anyone, and I never thought this was possible. Thank you Antenna Man for solid information.
