Nice design and wood preservation . I placed posts in pre-formed cement cylinders with U brackets/ bolt holes imbedded (builders supply) to delay dry rot and termites and used redwood and clear sealant in calif worked well.
Very inspiring. Your other videos have inspired me also. I had about 30 trees last year. Now I have 200+ pre bonsai, yamadori and bonsai. I need to make about 8 of these benches. Thanks. Love the videos and trees.
You know what is very funny my great grandfather is a famous rice paper artist. He made abstract collages. Similar to the scrolls used in bonsai. I hope one day to use some unpublished ones for a display one day
You are the best. I have seen many of your videos and you just make everything so much clear. Its good that you go straight to the point and every thing you say is important to know. Thanks man
As always your videos are well detailed and practical. Happy to have found your channel , and I am building this rack next weekend ( all still cut to size and ready). Thanks again. Ruwan.
Sealing the end grain is the most important. Also check into stainless screws that have a boring drill tip. Mostly used 4 metal, but could get away without pre- drilling. Looks nice.
Thanks Chris. Yes the trees are very happy. I wound up making about 6 benches for the first time in a long time I have more bench space than trees. I need to get to the nursery soon to start some new trees
Hi Orlando. I Like the video on the stands you made. I see you even have a water point on the wall, Great thinking, Lastly congrats on moving into the house. Tell me is the Colour of the wall in the video part of the overall plan, no harsh reflection off the wall is that what you intended. Good luck best wishes
I know this video was posted a few years ago but I was wondering if you ever posted a video with trees on it? Also at the end of the video you mentioned that you would probably set up irrigation for that area. Have you made any videos showing your irrigation setup? Very interested in using drip irrigation for my collection.
Nice design that you can increase and decrease the height of the uprights on each bench,to allow for a two or three tier effect. thank you so much for sharing. ;0)
Thanks for the video, Paul. Think you could make a video on working with the roots of a bald cypress bonsai? I've had the worst luck with BC trees. I can't find much on the internet about BC roots. I live just a few hours south of you so our climate is the same pretty much. Thanks again
You know I have been growing a raft sty;e Blad Cypress for teh past two years and have done nothing with it since it was collected. I will do a video on that trees roots. Should be a great material to work on and it is HUGE!
Thanks very much fo rthe comment. I don't think I'm going to use cement in the holes. I haven't in the past and they held very strong and straight. I think since they aren't that tall they don't need the extra added support. We will see
I need to build a bench. All my trees are on upside down large flower pots or on milk crates.Sure would be Easy to control pest by the spraying the support post. Hood work!..what's your dogs name? Every time I watch a video you see it laying down just watching, nice touch
Hi Nick, yes you need to get some benches built. It makes everythign look neater and your trees even look better on nice benches. My dogs name is Comso and he really is the best bonsai friend I could ever want.
I provided a compliment this morning with a link to a picture of a table I created using your idea and design. Somehow my comment is no longer here only a few hours later.
I saw that you commented but couldn’t find it. Glad you reposted and I like what you did with the design as the foundation. Looks solid and should hold a lot of trees. Well done
@@OrlandoBonsaiTV Thanks! So glad you were able to see the picture of the table, inspired by your design! Your video was so very well explained. Looking forward to following your channel!
Thanks for the video. I like your stand. I need to built one for my bonsai. I live in Palmdale, Ca. So in the summer it can get really hot. What do you suggest to do for shade?
Sorry for the late delay. I'm having some similar issues with shade right now. I'm thinking of shade cloth or those sails thay you can hang above the benches to provide some filtered sunlight
I really like all of your videos and am looking at making a set of bonsai benches myself for the first time. I really like the simple and very nice looking design of your benches in this video and I have a question, have you found anything that you would do different with this design after getting it all installed?
Hey Paul, i love watching your videos, have you ever considered doing a bonsai guava tree ? yellow or green i live Los Angeles, california where the weather is warm as in florida and it does surprisingly well and looks beautiful, if you do decide to do one please post a video about it , Keep posting videos !
great video, the only bit i missed was how many 1x2's were needed, i counted 52 1x2's across the top, you said you get 8/10' section so a person would need 9 10' 1x2's if my math besites me. Sound about right? very good video and i will be building these as soon as this minnesota winter is over (i gots months and months for that i know)
Thats probably going to need some sort of an upside down "T" leg measured to compensate for the different levels on your patio. I don't think it will be too stable though...
Thank you for the idea and display and demonstration of a bonsai. my future project for spring, and to properly present my bonsai if you have other video so I'm interested thank you for video. well you oli belgium country
The posts are treated 4" x 4" by 36-42" long depending on the height of the stand you want. The rails are 2" X 4" and the length is as long as you want the bench. The slats are 1" X 2" X 15" and are spaced 1" apart. Pretty easy list
Paul, I wanted to get in touch with you or someone about getting some good bonsai material for the upcoming season, Any chance we could communicate through email?
Headed to Home Depot right now. Thanks for a clear and easy to follow video. Hope you really enjoy your new home
Nice design and wood preservation . I placed posts in pre-formed cement cylinders with U brackets/ bolt holes imbedded (builders supply) to delay dry rot and termites and used redwood and clear sealant in calif worked well.
That sounds like a great set up as well!!

Horiuchi these benches are so easy and inexpensive. It just take a little time to building them but well worth it

@@OrlandoBonsaiTV 😀 glad to hear it makes you happy 😀please come with more videos. And update on the trees and bench!
This was very helpful for me thanks man !
Good luck, I’m sure you’ll be happy with the design
Great video, ever think of sinking in the screws more and filling with wood filler or glue and saw dust so screws don’t stand out so much ?
Thank you. Great suggestion.
Nice, now I'll be making some benches. Looking forward to your next video. -BriarBro
Great weekend project that helps you get organzied and display thos trees even better
Sealing the end grain is the most important. Also check into stainless screws that have a boring drill tip. Mostly used 4 metal, but could get away without pre- drilling. Looks nice.
Thanks for the tip on sealing the end grain, I'll be sure to cover them very well
Great video and helpful tips. I feel your excitement! Good stuff. I'd love to see your bench w. your trees.
Best of everything in your new home , looking forward to your updates
Thank Tom, Its a bit overwhelming with so much to do. But getting the trees back in place will really help it feel like a home

Absolutely! They are a great building block to make bigger or smaller benches. Thanks for watching
Your videos extremely helpful! Thanks for sharing all your tips and hints! Have you had any experience with trees from South Africa?
Thank you Jacques, unfortunately I haven't worked on any trees from S. Africa but the priciples and techniques would still be the same

Thanks very much fo rthe comment. I don't think I'm going to use cement in the holes. I haven't in the past and they held very strong and straight. I think since they aren't that tall they don't need the extra added support. We will see

Dennis I think it only took 2 1/2 10' to cover the 10' bench. Just figure 3" per board (2" bench plus 1" space) to calculate good luck
Outstanding !
Nice little video... i made my bench last year, and this year i filmed and made an episode on my channel about shelfs and stands../Bonsai Talk
Can't wait to see your trees there! -Hugo
Hugo, that makes two of us! Shold have a post as soon as I get them
Looks good, but what if you need a bench that will sit on a concrete patio? What's especially challenging is a patio floor that is not level!!!
Thats probably going to need some sort of an upside down "T" leg measured to compensate for the different levels on your patio. I don't think it will be too stable though...

Please upload a video displaying your trees on the new bench?
I'm still trying to fill my benches up. I'll do something soon
Great and i will see, your Bonsai on this benches :-)
Great design. Made a 10 footer using this design. I used slightly wider slats (1x4s). 👍
Complimenti!
Thank you Roberto!!
just fantastic
Thank you Mauricio, the benches are simple but look good and work very well
