    my standlights (I think the low beams in english) and (rear) taillights keeps turned on, won't turn off even after removing the key, that makes the battery die. other lights (full beams,indicators,brake lights) work, i can't pass technic inspection without fixing the problem, my garagust alreadly changed a lot but nothing worked. I tought because the lights on the dashboard looks to be turning on and off, maybe connecting a wire from there to the taillights and low beam lights, but even then how will I increase the voltage :/
    Did someone have a similar problem?
    Can someone pleasse help me?
    (sorry for my english, I'm from Belgium and i tried my best)

      Oh wow, I read the Haynes manual and searched TH-cam when I wanted to do the job and then filmed myself doing it. I did find quite a few videos on the subject when I looked, so I feel honoured that you like mine. I loved that Picasso, just the right size for ferrying the grandkids around and carrying all our bags for holidays etc. It was a 2008 model which we bought in 2009. Always had it serviced by the Citroen dealers and I got really annoyed with them when they could never find the leak in the aircon, just refilled it and told us they would find it next time with the dye they put in, never did and it went on for years. The final straw was they couldn't find why we were getting exhaust fumes inside either. Traded it in at a Vauxhall dealers in part ex for a Mokka which is slightly bigger externally but much smaller internally. The boot is tiny and can't hold half what I used to carry. Don't like it but I am learning to live with it.

    Your 'missing' bulb is the engine management light that the guy who sold you the car took out so you didn't realise it was knackered.
    I replaced all of the bulbs in my 2005 Picasso with white LEDs, it looks amazing.

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Clive, thanks for commenting. I did try a bulb in that location but it didn't do anything and looking at the warning lights section in the handbook there is nothing in that location so I would guess it is for a function not implemented in my model. As for engine management light, that bulb is at the other end of the display. Note you are looking at the back of the display when you can see the missing bulb, far right on the back is far left when you are looking at the front of the display. When you replaced the bulbs with LEDs are you still able to use the panel dimming function? I see that is a regular question raised on the forums.

      That was mild humour, it's missing on my 1.6 petrol too, so maybe the coil light for a diesel?

      the missing bulb is for the fuel filter water sensor on a diesel model

      Hey thanks, glad it helped. There are plenty more videos on this subject on TH-cam so I am glad you found mine. The variation in prices for the bulbs was interesting. It looks like many people change to LED bulbs but I have seen some people warn there could be issues with that so I stuck to the standard ones.

    that was nice and easy. I agree about working engines. not like 20 years ago when everything was nice and mechanical and computer free. it took me a 20 minute hunt on the internet to find out how to find my spark plugs on the astra :-)

      One of my uncles who is in his 80s and has always driven Morris Minors since they were first produced, grudgingly told me a couple of years ago that he had decided to stop doing his own servicing as he was finding it a bit too much effort to get underneath to grease the ball joints. Last time I did any serious mechanical work on a car was the early 90s. After that I was spoilt by having company cars that were company maintained and we even had my wife's car maintained by them at a discounted rate.

      Changing bulbs is about all I do on cars now. I wouldn't like to try working on the engines any more. Now that they have engine management systems just disconnecting the battery can cause enough problems so I let the dealers do the servicing.

      I am afraid it has finally gone. It was the 1.6 diesel. We got fed up with the constant failure of the air-con and we were getting exhaust fumes inside even though the dealership denied it was happening. (Why would I ask it to be fixed if it wasn't happening?) I loved that car but having paid the dealership a regular amount for "proper" dealer maintenance and servicing I decided their constant failure to fix the problems I highlighted meant we had to part company. To be fair it was on 08 plate we bought in 2009 and sold it this year so 9 years of virtually faultless service. I have a Vauxhall Mokka now, don't like it but at the moment the important bits work. I could give you a long list of the things I don't like about it but I have paid the money so I am stuck with it.

    Thanks for this video. Something usually goes wrong for me when I try a job that looks simple but this went well. The hardest part was removing the bulb from the little grey cup but after moving it a little from side to side then pulled it quite hard it came out. Speedometer much clearer now. I used the 286 12v 1.2w bulb (hope this is the right one, looks ok to me).

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey I am glad it helped. I don't know about the serial number but certainly the bulbs were 12v 1.2w and I ended up replacing 5 of them. In the video description I put links to 8 other people doing the same video as it seems to be a fairly common task. I am no mechanic, I just bought the Haynes manual when I bought the car and always refer to that when I want to try anything myself.

    Nice video. :-) Although I suggest testing/checking all the bulbs before reassembly. On the Picasso it's not a big deal to take the instrument panel apart but a lot of other cars are simply a "nightmare", meaning that no way anybody want to do it twice.
    Funny, for a fraction of a second I thought "where the hell is the steering wheel?"... wrong side. LOL :-) Be well and keep up the good work.

    Grandpa, I see you carry a spare car with you - good idea that - but what make/model is that one? I'm sure a conspiracy theorist will ask so to forestall that what is the story with the cryptic 1868 and 15 15 BBC BS TA encoded on that instrument panel? Very clear good job done there and I'll also say the camera work was excellent. Thanks

    • @GrandadIsAnOldMan
      @GrandadIsAnOldMan  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spare car was laying in the carpark so I picked it up and later it went in the cup holder in the child seat in the back for one of my grandsons to find. The 180.6 is the odometer trip meter so that is the number of miles since I last zeroed it. 15:15 would be the time. BBC BS TA is the radio tuned to the BBC radio Bristol channel for Traffic Announcements (TA).
