You are actually my hero. I’m in post bacc taking my last few prerequisites for pa school. I don’t have the strongest gpa but your stats and videos have been so motivating. It’s awesome to see women of color in the medical field doing what they love. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, I hope to have the same opportunity one day!
Thank you! I'm working on a presentation on PA career (something I've been looking into since 8th grade) & I want to inspire more people to look into this career path! I felt so little/weak for going to community college at first but watching this made me feel better, because obviously, you turned out okay!
So, bachelor degree is not required to enter into PA School? Can we go go to community college taking associate degree for pre pa course which is for 2 years?
I was watching videos on first NP jobs as I just because one. I just stopped working at NB and I saw you there many times. Nice to see your making these videos to inspire your future PAs.
This video was incredibly helpful so thanks so much! I wanted to become a surgical PA but people always tell me to become a doctor instead. I’m not really prepared (mentally and financially lol) to go to a Med school for 4 years that’s why I chose to become a PA. I’m so glad I clicked on your vid and found out you’re a surgical PA right off the bat since I can’t seem to find anyone else on TH-cam 💖💖
You are a natural and have such good energy, keep up the good work, by the way I am new to your channel, I stumbled upon it and was interested so that's it. I'm not in the medical field I just find that I like people's life stories.
If anyone looking for a stepping stone become a Surgical Technologist. It's a great stepping stone to get your foot in the OR. I am one now and am looking into becoming a PA
I love all you answers and I am currently a Pre-Pa student and would love to talk to you more in detail. I actually have been having some slight problems with my gpa and would love your advice 💕❤️ subscriber since the very beginning☀️
Kendra Lynne How did you become a PA were you first a RN because I’m been reading and it says that schools want about 3 years of experience before starting PA school, please get back with me
how do you stay motivated?? i would love to become a surgical pa but im getting down on myself for being 24 and finally deciding what i want to do with my life.
I'm 24 too and considering either going back to school for an RN or going the PA route. I'm going to get a nurse aide certification and maybe cma later to get more experience and hopefully make a decision!
I am currently a PA student and graduating next month (crazy!!). How often are you on-call? I know you mentioned you work every third weekend but how often are you on-call during the week?
Hey girl hey, love you so much for answering my questions, I'm gonna be a Surgical tech in the near future and also want to be a surg pa do u think becoming a surf tech will really help me before applying to pa school
What was your undergrad gpa? I myself struggled in my freshman year and am concerened with getting a high GPA. Just found your channel and super excited about becoming a PA!❤️
If you talk about the struggle you endured from that in your personal statement, but how you made it through, I think that would be a very strong component.
Would you encorage people to work as a nurse before even going to PA school . I was thinking of working for 2-3 years as a nurse before going to PA school. This way i have some money and some experience. If i get a job in a hospital while im in college i might cut those years short.
If you want to be a nurse first, then I would recommend becoming a Nurse Practitioner first. You can work while going to school for NP. If you want to be a PA, I would work as say a medical assistant, scribe, CNA, EMT, etc :)
Nursing undergrad is great because 1) you stand out when applying 2) Its the only undergrad major that gives u a background in medicine with clinicals (so you'll be more prepared when starting PA school). 3) You'll have something to always to fall back on.
Hey girl, any advice for interviews? Also how did you use that law of attraction to get into PA school? I have been getting into manifesting and LOA and I was wondering what you did, thank you :)
I believe when you really, truly want something and you focus your attention towards it and you're striving to get there, things tend to fall in line. So if you were putting off getting hours or thing you won't make it, change your mindset first. That's always the first and most important step. KNOW you will get into PA school, and when you do, you will find yourself pushing yourself harder and the universe will notice :)
There isn't much about my job that I don't like lol. Like any office, office drama is inevitable. I just try to stay out of it :) Other than that............. yea nothing else lol
Hi! So did you work in the medical field while you were trying to get your degree? Also how did you get a job as a medical assistant without any previous experience?
insert creative name here tbh it's a very entry level position. I say go volunteer a bit. Get some entry level positions whether it be a fast food clerk. Get your certs if necessary for the career. And you'll have a high chance of getting it...as with every medical profession you have to show service for the public and some form of helping people
My goal is to be a firefighter but i want to be a p.a as a backup im just really afraid to fail cause i worked 2 low salary jobs for 8 years im 26 now sometimes i feel like im old but man i do want to become p.a im just afraid to fail
I had a bad arm accident from jujitsu practice and went to see a orthopedic. The PA saw me first then the doctor. The doctor tells me the exact same thing as the PA. So my question is, what's the point of an orthopedic PA if the doctor is going to have to redo everything the PA did.
Well, the doctor has more schooling and the authority to sign off on certain procedures and things. A physician assistant can do similar things, but they work under the doctor. This by no means mean that a PA can't know more than a doctor about a particular subject. An experience PA versus an inexperienced doctor. A PA takes some of the load of a doctor to increase the quality care a patient may receive. Sometimes if there's enough trust and the PA is good, the doctor may just confirm with what the PA has found. They just chose different paths of credentials basically.
Any advice for an incoming undergrad I’m attending UCI as a Biology major and I’m really scared idk if I should keep that major or just add a minor of public health. I feel like biology is such a rigorous course I took a chem class and I found it really hard I am scared to fail. I also have a medical assisting certification but don’t know my jobs near me or if I should work my first quarter I need some advice from a PA please 🥺 btw love your video 💖💖💖
Thanks so much for watching! So sorry for the late response! How's everything going? Just keep your mentality positive and get help with classes when you need them. You got this!
do you have to be comfortable with blood and guts to start, or is that something that can be learned? it seems scary if you had to watch open heart surgery.
Please email me for salary inquiries (kendralynnepa@gmail.com) My school debt for me was around 100 grand because I took out a little extra loans for food and traveling when I could, etc
Hi kendra , my name is kaila and im a junior in highschool.. i have a question, when becoming a PA do you get to chose what kind of PA you want to be ? because you said you're a PA in surgery and you work at a hospital.. Now i want to become a PA So bad , like everything about it fascinates me A lot. But instead of working in surgery , i want to deal with other things Like someone being sick, ear infection, broken bones , writing prescription Etc... Can i do that instead Of surgery ? And do we have to work at just a hospital ? or it can be a clinic as well ?.... Btw, Great Video and Great Tips Thaankkk You so much for making this video I really appreciate it.
I am a radiologic technologist. I got my associates degree this year and started working a month ago. I am doing online classes to get my bachelors. Do you think about two to three years of working as a radiologic technologist is good before starting PA school? Do you think my radiology background would benfit me in some way? It involves a lot of patient contact along with the whole medical imaging aspect and interpretation. I am not sure if I want to become a RRA/RPA (basically a radiologist physican assistant) or general PA?
Hello! Do every get patients that you feel don't trust you because you're a PA? I.E. They don't respect you/would rather see a MD? Also, do PAs get to provide nutrition information? Or do you refer to RDs? I'm more interested in nutrition (Masters level) but the PA salary is so much more.
Yes, I get that every now and then. But everyone has their preferences and I am not against them. PAs don't really provide nutrition information. If nutrition is something you love, then pursue that and the money will come as you realize your ambitions with it :)
I know I'm late to this video, but I'm wondering how you financially put yourself through school. How did you afford to live, and did you take out student loans?
Monica Lewinsky she did say she works in dermatology and pas who specialize in dermatology are some of the highest paid pas due to the fact that a lot of the procedures they do are paid out of pocket and no by insurance. She also said the she is a surgical pa and they do make more then normal pas so I would assume for sure above 100k and maybe even somewhere around 120k.
quick question, so I know you need patient care hours before applying to pa school, but do you think that doing any volunteering work as well elated to the field will enhance any chance of getting accepting to pa school?
Crystal Egg I’m guessing she went to college at 18 and grad.d at 24. So maybe 6 years total. 4 years bachelors and 2 yrs pa school. That’s not bad at all compared to many medical professions if that is true.
Unfortunately people are only fixated on the fiscal qualities of jobs and professions. If you have zero to little enjoyment in your career then your job will always feel like just a job and not something you enjoy doing while making money simultaneously.
Do you know of any PAs that only work 3-4 days a week at 12 hour shifts? I know this is a common schedule plan for Respiratory therapists and maybe Nurses(?)
My friend is an ER PA and works a schedule like that. He even has time to do real estate on the side, though it probably doesn't help his stress levels...lol
Hey there..! I'm from INDIA.I wanna study MBBS ie MD in Canada but my financial situation makes that impossible to accomplish. Omg you’re the sweetest!! Thank you so much for watching 😘
I’m so glad I found you’re channel ! You’re living my dream life ahah. I’m about to enter my freshman year and want to become a PA in the future.
I’m kinda like you. Got accepted last Thursday. Class starts next month. But I need to work as much as I can before I go sadly.
Also.. I live in Florida and going to school in Florida, what pa school did you go to? I know it couldn’t be FSU because theirs literally just opened.
I would love to see a video about maintaining a healthy relationship while in PA school if possible :)
Carly Roth great topic!!

Thank you!!! So sweet :)
You advised that we travel before going to PA school. Does your schedule not permit travel now that you aren't in school?
Yes, now it does :)
While I was in school, not so much
Not as much. I did travel a couple of times but not enough to make me happy lol
Your videos are amazing!! As a high school student wanting to become a PA these are super super helpful!
Eve Kelly same
Girl I love this video and your positive attitude!! Very encouraging ☺👩🔬
Thank you so much!! I appreciate you 💕

Thank you for the PA tips!

Thanks so much!!
Cute puppy!!!!!! I love it!
Thank you for the tips!
Hi! Thanks for making this video, helps a lot. Can I ask what school you applied for and which ones you got into?
I am currently a PA student and graduating next month (crazy!!). How often are you on-call? I know you mentioned you work every third weekend but how often are you on-call during the week?
How was it?? Was it what you expected it to be??
How many interviews did you go on? Did you have to take a few prerequisites at keiser? Thank you.
Hey girl hey, love you so much for answering my questions, I'm gonna be a Surgical tech in the near future and also want to be a surg pa do u think becoming a surf tech will really help me before applying to pa school
I think that would be great experience and make you a stronger candidate when you apply for a surgery job later on :)
I think that would be great experience and make you a stronger candidate when you apply for a surgery job later on :)
Hi! Can you explain your plastic surgery job you had before going to pa school?
What was your undergrad gpa? I myself struggled in my freshman year and am concerened with getting a high GPA. Just found your channel and super excited about becoming a PA!❤️
My mom passed away my sophomore year. PA schools will take this into consideration when they see my GPA???
If you talk about the struggle you endured from that in your personal statement, but how you made it through, I think that would be a very strong component.

How did you get your direct patient care hours?
Where did you go to school at?
My goal is to be a firefighter but i want to be a p.a as a backup im just really afraid to fail cause i worked 2 low salary jobs for 8 years im 26 now sometimes i feel like im old but man i do want to become p.a im just afraid to fail
Do it. Dont give up bc you think you migjt fail.
I feel the same way!
your still so young what do you mean? give it a try just focus on the work and let everything behind you.
Best to try than to quit before you start.
How old are you? And how long have you been a PA.
How did you know you wanted to become a PA? What are the benefits and how how is the PA programs and years of schooling?
Which speciality do you work at? Did you work at Surgery? I am thinking Heme Onch: is this good work life balance?
I've worked in multiple fields including surgery. I currently work in cosmetic derm
I had a bad arm accident from jujitsu practice and went to see a orthopedic. The PA saw me first then the doctor. The doctor tells me the exact same thing as the PA. So my question is, what's the point of an orthopedic PA if the doctor is going to have to redo everything the PA did.

what should you say when you ask a PA to shadow?
How much are your student loans and what do you pay monthly?
Did you have to be a certified MA for Keiser? Some schools want you certified even though you can get hired and trained on the job.
Also, we live very close.. Would you consider letting me shadow you :)
How was the learning curve once you got hired? Since PA's dont get residency, i'm assuming you mainly learn on the job.
what camera are you using
I am working towards becoming a DVM but being a PA too would be cool!
What was your undergrad major & GPA when you applied ?
She has a video on her journey to pa titled something like that, it answers those questions
Any advice for an incoming undergrad I’m attending UCI as a Biology major and I’m really scared idk if I should keep that major or just add a minor of public health. How did you find out that you needes to do all of those things? Did Your school tell you
Can a PA be a professor for PA school?
Yes!! There are more requirements, just not too sure what they are
do you have to be comfortable with blood and guts to start, or is that something that can be learned? it seems scary if you had to watch open heart surgery.
ytb917 good question.
What’s your salary? And how much did school cost for you?
Vanessa she said in her previous vid to just email her for the exact amount :)
Please email me for salary inquiries (kendralynnepa@gmail.com)

There’s almost always a surgery rotation in PA school
@@itsKendraLynne don't you feel like hesitation or disgusted ...do u get used to it?
What exactly do you do as a P.A? If you could possible say if you get paid well.

I go to FSU rn and want to be a PA !!
Andres heyyy that’s where I want to go to school next year for PA! 😁
Yay!! GO NOLES
You didn’t really answer the question at 7:20.
Hey , is it HIPPA violation to record the surgery? Thanks
You have to get consent from the patient prior :)
Can you cover how you worked as a MA, please? as in how you got connected/ hrs worked/ wage? TY :)
I know I'm late to this video, but I'm wondering how you financially put yourself through school. How did you afford to live, and did you take out student loans?
Katie H it’s okay!! I took out a loan through FASFA and I lived at home ☺️ but they do offer to take out extra for living expenses
For the plastic surgery job, What requirements did you need?
What is the average starting, mid-career, and late-career salary in your area?
Is it possible to get your bachelors degree and do the PA program in two different universities?
lol of course. That's how most do it.
You didn't answer the question at 7:20

Love your shirt I want one lol 💕
FSU as in Fresno state university?
i think florida state since she works in florida lol
I also wanna be a surgical PA but I always wondered why do some PA’s work in more then one hospital any specific reason ?
What PA school did u go to
Hey..I'm from Bangladesh.. Please give few suggetion for international students
could i major in genetics and still become a derm PA?
Can PA's work in Dentistry???
Hey! No I don't believe they do
PA's are for working in medicine only!
Did you get a certificate to be a medical assistant? And if you didn’t have a certificate was it hard to get a job as a medical assistant ?
Is it possible for me to become a surgical PA if I major in engineering? Or something artsy like music?
I have a question and wanted to ask how did you pay for school , I’m debating whether to apply for National Health Corps or taking a loan 😫
Can a PA get a PhD?
quick question, so I know you need patient care hours before applying to pa school, but do you think that doing any volunteering work as well elated to the field will enhance any chance of getting accepting to pa school?
Do you know any international student that had gotten a work visa as a PA?
How much do you make as a surgical PA?
Olivia she said in her previous video to just email her to find out :)
How old is she? She's so sweet looking. 😊😊
Chaff LS. I could be wrong but in some other videos I believe she said she was 24.
I was 24 when I graduated but I'm 26 now :)
