    Still ride and love my 2014 scott voltage fr10. I guess its got a little better geo and parts then the early 00's but its still 26" and probably the last of those style of bikes similar to oldschool downhill and free ride.
    Im still riding with the 200mm rockshox domain and a fox van r coil in the rear.
    I think its crazy he said 2.35 tires are small and a 65 degree head angle is steap😅
    2.35 and 2.5 are very close in size especially in maxxis and schwalbe.. and 65-66 degrees is pretty slack to me😄

    Interesting video, love the evolution of the bikes, very similar to the difference to my owned from new 1998 Kona xc machine and my 2023 Atherton AM.130 trail bike.
    Still love riding the Kona but the difference between the two feels light years away, on the Kona you feel every bump the trail has to offer, steep downhill encourages your weight to move forward….
    the AM130 gives great trail feedback is very smooth over the bumps and downhills are fast, controlled and very balanced….viva la difference, love riding them both.

    Foes had an Air/coil fork in 2000. The F1, I had one on my Foes DHS. It was butter. Only about 6.5 inches of travel but it was inverted and had a 30 mm hub. It was an amazing fork. I still have that bike on my wall! I have to admit my YT Tues with a Marzocchi C2R2 fork is much more capable but nothing turned heads like that red Foes!

    reminds me of when the Athertons rode for team GT circa 2011-2012. The carbon GT Fury's geometry were so outdated when they came out they switched to a longer slacker alloy fury like 2 years later.

    You can ride with those handlebars, just most people these days won't, I happy ride with 600mm but did have 60mm stem I think, bike stolen before I got to measure it
    I like to see difference between road and mountain as what I know, road has long stem to keep a more direct line but short handlebars that help steer faster and mountain is short stem for faster steer but long bars to slow or precision steering (both have like stem and handlebars jobs sort of flipped)

    For anyone who has used both SRAM Nx and Gx drive chains, is Gx truly better than Nx?

    • @RedRidesMTB
      @RedRidesMTB 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve used both, my NX had issues right out of the box with the clutch so it was never really solid. The GX is fantastic. That being said I’m still running the NX cassette since it’s so cheap to replace and it wears slower than the GX cassette. I would recommend running an NX cassette if you already have an HG driver body, and running a GX shifter and derailleur.

    His math isn't great, only 8mm dia difference from 40s and 32 boxxer. Didn't know we were using 10 speed in dh in 05, and comparing a young Rachel sized bike to a current charlie size bike exaggerates the size difference. Cool expose though

    Unbelievable how MTB has developed at the last 20 years. Entry level full suspension from 2024 can chew up the top of the line from 2004. I look at redbull rampage from 2002-2004 and it looks like a joke compared to 2024.

    I would prefer a trail bike or maybe Enduro. I would bet 90% of riders are not doing downhill everyday. Most this tech from downhill doesn't make sense for most riders.

    • @gmbntech
      @gmbntech  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Downhill tech does get passed down to the other disciplines of riding, especially in Enduro 🤘Atherton Bikes do a 170mm travel bike as well called A.170!

    • @andrewbrown8927

      That’s why I have 6 bikes!!! When you’re taking a chairlift up the hill a full DH bike is the only way to go down!

    • @andrewbrown8927
      @andrewbrown8927 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@joeallard205 I get that. That makes sense. But most people can't afford that. He'll most can barely afford a hardtail. Prices are ridiculous. The majority of people going somewhere with a lift are renting bikes around me.

    • @kingflynxi9420
      @kingflynxi9420 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Also aside from not riding for atherton, he didn't snap it. The aluminium lug de-bonded from the carbon tube and adhesive. There's no galvanic corrosion between titanium and carbon, so the atherton frames likely don't de-bond.
