There!, I fixed it! --- In order to make the column of gears that holds the two paper grabbers (the grey ones) turn, there's a 'master' gear at the other end of that column, In my printer case, it was that this small gear was moving in a horizontal manner when rolling to make the paper advance.... so I just simply took a small clip and some crazy glue and I rubbed some (less than a drop) at the sides of this gear...and .. profit! Hope this works for you.
More likely the drive gear of the pickup (black arm that drops down on to the paper) has either slipped off the ferrule or the ferrule has stripped out the gear. To see this you'll need to tip the printer on its back and look up from the bottom right hand side of the paper feeder tray or use a mirror. Some have reported they were able to glue the gear back in to place. I was not able to do so as it continued to slip.
gse133 That's what happened with mine. I can feel the gear and slide the front back and forth but still nothing so i'm assuming it's stipped or something.

@@HPSupport Very greedy reply. GSE133 and Dorothy both know what the problem and solution is, and HP SUPPORT reply is to send the unit for servicing?? (following the solutions on the website won't fix the problem) I have had this problem for a year or so now, and finally decided to find a solution - this is it, the gear has slipped off and it needs to be glued + slid back in place. I was about to buy another printer before i found this solution! Obviously a common problem on this model. It's such a shame that some companies want you to buy another printer and encourage a throw away society instead of offering practical solutions & repairs.

The printer will print if I manually advance the paper but that suggests that I do need to clean the rollers. This problem occurred when I tried to print on a post card. the feed didn't sound normal and so I now have a problem to fix but at least I can print what I need today.

Did all this. If I force the first sheet of paper into the printer, the entire document works, but it won't pick up the first sheet. The arm (with two rollers) doesn't descend on its own until the first page is printer, then it feeds the rest of the document with no problems. Any idea what to do?

Went through these steps with the 6500 that was occasionally used, when that didnt work I called customer service. They wouldnt help me because they said my warranty expired. They tried to offer me a new printer for 130 plus shipping but it was 99 on amazon and with my amazon prime its free shipping. Very poor service. I will not be buying from HP again.
i used a sponge to clean every part of the printer to make it work and it was able to print out the ink report effectivly. Thank you for your knowledge of printer cleaning!😆😆😆

When printing it is leaving a margin of about 13cm and no margin at the bottom. I use my printer for card making and is proving difficult to print an A5 card, because of this margin you cannot fold the card in half. Please help, how can I fix this (I have changed to borderless printing but this has no effect)?
What do I do if it only prints sometimes? This morning I switched it on and printed one thing, a few seconds later I printed something else and it completely ignored me. Multiple times I have switched it off and on again. We have had many problems like this ever since we got this printer. I found 2 small black plastic pieces near my printer, after which it no longer takes paper from paper tray (HP 6500A Plus Office Jet). On close examination, the pieces (identical) appear to be 2 halves of a gear wheel, or halves of 2 gear wheels. So I get "Out of paper. Load paper." messages. Can this be repaired?

Hello Kelly Britt, Please search for C02441153 on HP’s home page or using Google search. It is the trouble shooting document when you get a paper jam message. It will walk you through all the places to check for a scrap piece of paper or debris that would cause the issue you are experiencing.
I did everything on here, but the important roller that feeds and picks up.. does not turn when it attempts to pick up paper. But removing the papers, the roller starts turning when it comes down, then add paper.. it just touches down and does not turn. It's as if the gears aren't strong anymore to turn the rollers... Cleaning it does nothing, resetting nothing. It's not dirty at all. I believe everything works, turns, except the roller that picks up. I'd just hate to have to send it for service, or buy a new one.

This did do nothing because the problem was due to a gear hidden inside and at the top of the paper tray.. the gear is in the top right above the paper tray.. this slides towards the left.. push it back to the right to connect to the rest of the gear system that pulls the paper..you need a slim mirror and a torch to see it.. have a look at the video by Thomas Griffin
I normally love HP products but I am incredibly frustrated. I bought this printer many years ago but didn't have a friend hook it up until last week, because I had another printer that was still working great. This thing is a piece of crap. It can't possibly need cleaning, since it is brand new and has been doing this straight out of the box. I can get things to print if I shove the paper through manually but it can take 5 or 10 minutes to print a single document. Nothing looks strange, with the flashlight. Does anyone have any simple fixes that have worked, that don't involve gluing the gears? I am disabled and limited to what I can do. Thank you.

I was able to see them with the flashlight and, since I have been unable to print more than about 5 pages in the past 10 days, they had no opportunity to become dirty. I literally performed every other step last night and nothing works. The only way to get it to print is to manually push the paper through after the mechanism drops, lifts, and repositions itself. At that point I can slide a single sheet of paper in far enough for the rollers to grab it. I can print one sheet every 5 minutes or so, due to the number of tries it takes to time it and align it perfectly. I got frustrated and rushed last night and ended up with a jam, which was a totally different nightmare. :(
Brian Simmons What type and size of envelope are you using to print on? What is the version of operating system on your computer? Are the width adjustors on the sides of the envelopes snug on the outer edges?

This model looked great out of the box and set up was easy. But the catch was that it was not able to grab a sheet of paper "to save it's life". This was right out of the box. Clean the dust off of the rollers... I had the same problem.
removing the plug from BOTH printer and electric outlet worked for me.

You can reprint your web services information sheet again to get the printer claim code. Please tap the ePrint icon on the front panel of the printer and within the settings you should have an option to print the report. Also please search for C03550536 on HP’s home page or using Google search. It is the Getting the Printer Claim Code document from HP.

useless video. usually it is broken gear, which very hard to reach and repair. Probably it is design fail problem
