hi Dub, I really liked your perspective on the Olympics topic, I agree with you on the topic of not having enough female riders yet. But in my opinion there arent many female riders in the other disciplines either. To me it seems that the organization which is responsible for the sports being selected to the Olympics, wants a broader audience so they pick a wider range of sports and not multiple disciplines in one sport (even though there are lots of versions of swimming and also two BMX disciplines). Also I think that they lack the industry (money) behind it. Park has money in it, flatland doesn´t. There is nothing to earn money on from the start. They could be helping to build it up, yes, but I dont think they are in the sport to build it up, they are there to showcase and earn money off it. Not so long ago even X-Games said that its not their responsibility to help womens BMX to grow, which I find an outrageous statement but they think with a business mindset and so does the Olympics. They dont do this for the sake of the sports entirely.
Flatland would be so easy to set up, they would need to build 2 stages to ride and practice and tribunes around it and its done. Much less money that a park contest or anything similar to that. So this makes no sense to me either on the cost side of the Olympics.
Basically, what we can do is to focus on building the scene, getting more young people into it and grow the sport (as you said) but I dont think it should be done to get into the Olympics, but to help the sport itself. Vultures will pop up as soon there is something to grab and/or exploit :)
What the women and man delivered on the Tokyo Olympics was insanely good and I have the utmost respect for them. Truly a breakthrough.
