If I remember correctly, when I was a kid, they were a quarter. I just bought a couple for Christmas presents for the liittle boys across the road - they were about $11 a piece. Yea - I bought one for me too...

Launch technique: don't throw it, and certainly not to throw it downwards. Let go the prop, and just a gentle level push.
