That's a big one ---> understanding how LITTLE pressure we need & it changes by instrument... Thank you. One trick I do also is I play each chord arpeggio before I begin to clarify the strum/rhythm, this way I continue training my ear for tonality as well as ensuring clear notes singing in each chord... Chee & Maisel are so awesome! I just found their online festivals last week... GREAT resource for newbies like me...
Right on, that bent goose hand "technique-wrong" position is what slowed me down at first when beginning. Thanks for the reminder as I do forgot to relax the hand and have a straight wrist/hand when playing intensely
When I first started to play the guitar, the goose was always around 😂. Once my hand became strong get and a bought a better guitar, things improved. I think we’re not the only ones who struggled with this.
Yes, ingraining your teachings into the memory of the muscles. Thanks ever so much for these helpful reminders to relax, enjoy and feel the music you hear 🎶🙏🎶
This was so helpful!!! My hand has been cramping recently and I thought it was something that I was just going to have to deal with 😅 thank you so much!
Ah, that's fun.... Playing with changing string pressure I'm finding different sounds in the notes. I was pressing to hard as a beginner, this light touch until the clear note is heard is now added to my practice repertoire 💪🎸💪
Hi! Great video. Not sure if this is where I should ask this... could you possibly do a tutorial on “nobody but you” by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani? I know there are a couple versions out there. This would be so amazing! Maybe finger picking?? 😄😃
I'm sure your daughter will be a musical prodigy from feeling the uke daily.😃 I really enjoy watching your videos. Helps me out a lot! I still have some issues with finger tip filling up the fret spaces. Especially up on the 12th frets. I play concert size and might go tenor.
YEAH!!!!!!! I'm so happy that this helped! I know exactly what you mean. When I first started to play the guitar, my hands would just ache until I realized that I didn't need to squeeze so hard. Thanks for watching and have a great day.
Thanks for all the advice ..After playing the guitar for almost 50 years I do have a problem holding the ukulele at a 45 degrees. Holding it like my guitar seems to work for me but I'm sure it could be better at 45 degrees
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. If playing the ukulele more so parallel to the floor doesn’t bother you and is working well for you, I don’t see a problem 😀. Sometimes some things work or don’t work for everyone because we’re all different. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.
Good tips:) I find I still have to squeeze too hard for bar chords in order for all strings to ring out nicely. Argh! Yes I roll the finger over a bit, but still. If I concentrate before and during the bar chord I usually have success, but it doesn’t seem as ‘natural.’ :)
Helloooo, I've been following you from Turkey:) I love your style, the way you sing and your lessons have been very helpful for me! Thanx a lot, and btw you look very beautiful when your are pregnant tooo:)
You are so kind, and I'm so thankful that this channel is helping you. Thank you for taking the time to write to me and thank you for being so kind. I really appreciate you! Sending you lots of love :).
I've definitely been having trouble with this! I've entirely learned how to play the ukulele on my own and am definitely still a beginner, however I think I've picked up the incorrect technique for holding the ukulele neck. I've noticed that lots of folks, including you, support the neck between the first finger and thumb so that the thumb often peeks over the back of the neck. I've been pushing on the back of the neck with my thumb which doesn't feel correct, however, when I try the other way I find I have a hard time changing chords and pressing the strings accurately. However, I can see no other way to keep the ukulele in the 45 degree position, other than clamping down on the body of the ukulele with the right arm. Can you make a video on the proper technique to hold the neck and tips for changing chords more easily from this position?
Kristi Chau I have this problem as well. Although I’m somewhat the opposite of you. I can’t change cords very well holding the neck with my thumb at the back, it has to peek over to keep it steady, but then I can’t change to some cords properly. I’m looking forward to her answer for this.
Try using a strap. This eliminates haveing to hold and play the uke at the same time as well as keeping it at the same angle. I know some purists dislike straps, but it makes learning easier.
Hi I am trying to play with my index finger on a chord, but the index finger must hold down on the 1st fret strings 1 & 2 together. I cant get it. the song I am working on is Sweet Child o mine. it comes out muted. Mind you This is all new to me, as I grew up l playing Trumpet.
Good question. I think u I bring t be lodging g off each finger instead of losing it down as you transition to the next note. It’s really common when people are working through scales and riffs for the first time. It’s kind of hard to explain, but I do have a video coming out soon about what you night be struggling with.

How to get more flexibility out of my fingers? I have small hands and I feel like I can’t stretch them enough to put my fingers on the cords properly? Also any tips for laying fingers down for a Em cord all at once?
Those are some good questions. I don’t have any videos about stretches, but my ukulele 201 course on my Patreon Page revolves around Em transitions. It has 14 videos, and the link is in the description box.
Light bulb may have gone on about learning strumming: so I can strum patterns well with muted strings, but as soon as I play a chord and can hear the music of even just the same chord, my brain gets confused and it’s hard to maintain the strumming pattern. Then it popped into my head, this is what the finger shaker is for as a beginner to make the strumming pattern easier to hear above the chords, so it’s easier, just like when the strings are muted. Is this the purpose? Thanks!

There’s so much more sweetness to the tone when I have a lighter touch. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the death grip is not necessary.
That helped me so much!

So cool, I discovered fretting closer to the bar a while ago, and you just confirmed my thoughts that this is a better technique 🎶💃🎶
