I love this show so much! Having an expert in the field of whatever videogame is played and giving their thoughts is so entertaining and informative. I'm glad I got curious about LA's PBS presence on TH-cam a few weeks ago.
Stede Bonnet has kinda been the whipping boy of pirate history for, gosh decades probably by now. I don't think he was thaaaaat bad. He wasn’t good mind you. (Certainly not as a person he was a Barbados plantation owner) but he did manage to last over a year. Not everyone managed that. John Rackam lasted August 22 1720 to October 22 1720. He also at best robbed fishing boats and a handful of sloops plus a schooner. I feel he's far more pathetic then Bonnet.

There was so much awesome information in this video, it really is a fascinating subject all around! Unrelated, I rewatched Master And Commander, what a great movie lol
I hate to do this but this video game has such hollywood naval combat - ships of the line in real life could trade broadsides for quite some time without suffering enough structural damage to actually sink. though the crew inside said ships would probably be turned to mincemeat by the splintering wood and hot lead flying everywhere though like mentioned, most pirates crewed much smaller vessels than ships of the line, and would often actually avoid open combat as much as possible, relying on their speed and cunning to convince their target to surrender. Plus, of course, if you sat and exchanged fire with another ship, their plunder inside might get damaged or even worse, ruined. If anyone is interested in learning more of the real history of pirates, check out Gold and Gunpowder here on TH-cam (: A lot of the things they talk about and touch on in this, that channel has full videos with in depth explanations
Came for the Elyse, stayed for the pirate history.

This video is like a lesbian eulogy for a bad game, made worse by a revisionist feminist view of history.
So fun
