Thank you for sharing this great historic piece on the LA art scene, as an artist native I had an opportunity to meet and hang out with John Outterbridge.

EVERYONE runs the full race - and everybody finishes the marathon.
Because in the larger scope of an entire unknown universe we are specks upon specks.
    Life is life.
    Breath is breath.
Don’t have an elitist POV - we are all connected and therefore in this life as one single unit.

I think what black artists didn’t do enough of was to educate children in their communities/schools and especially poorer communities about Black art, the artists and their history … as far back as Ancient Kemet (Egypt).
It could have been an organized effort between galleries as a united force.
I wish we had more of that - something so many of us thirsted for but didn’t realize we were.
I think many people have no sense of what looks professional because there was such an elitist Black artist group who didn’t pass the sense of GOOD design and GOOD presentational skills onto the next generation.
Fortunately, many artists have that understanding, but it’s still hasn’t trickled down to the majority of the people.
