Absolute star mate! My car head unit would not recognize the pen drive, but everything else did. I updated the firmware on the headunit, factory reset, but nothing. I had already formatted the pen drive but didnt change it from FAT32. 18 months its drove me crazy. All sorted now, huge thanks mate!!

Mine only has the option of exFAT and NTFS -- which should I choose for a 2016 Prius C? And, a side question, would this function ever be turned off or not installed by the dealer? I see the grayed out USB choice on the display menu, but it never registers the drive. Thanks!

Thanks. Had know idea you could run a NTFS formatted USB drive in your car. Thought it had to be FAT32 and didn't know there was FAT32EX. Also found that FAT32 is only for USB drives 32 GB or smaller,. If larger then 32 GB then it has to be FAT32EX or NTFS. Formatted my 128 GB USB thumb drive to NTFS and it worked fine. GREAT. :)

Dude this helped me tremendously. My car stereo would not recognize my HipStreet mp3 player and would error "No Device Detected". I've tried formatting the drive outright and copying and pasting the files, even lost some files in the process. Turns out that it had been set to FAT by default so I set it to FAT32 (recognizable by my car stereo on other mp3 players) copied and pasted the files again and IT WORKED!! Even more strange was that the car voice came on and told me to proceed with caution (lol) once it recognized the device. Almost the same as if I had been routing the GPS. I would also like to inform you that this video is also the first most watched video of 2023 (by me). I've watched it at least seven times and it will be entered into my most watched YT videos of 2023 playlist; something I've done for the past 6 years. I've got a Skoda Karoq.
The external media can be played via two USB C sockets.
My previous car could use SD cards loaded with my CD collection and had no problem, so I thought that by buying a USB C to SD card reader adaptor I could just plug in and away it would go, but It doesn't see it.
I have had to buy some USB C flash drives, transfer my music to them and plug in. They do work, however, I have found that it is probably not wise to use anything above 32GB, especially if you intend filling the drive up to capacity. The system in the car struggles to read all the information and if you search for specific tracks it can't find them.
The other problem I've found, and I don't know if its related is that if you are playing a particular track/album, and you switch off and park up, on return to the car, the system seems not to remember where it was and starts playing something different.
I'm living with it but it is a pain!

I recently bought a 2014 Prius V. I'm pretty good with stuff like this but cannot get the stereo to recognize any of my flash drives weather they are formatted in FAT32 or NTFS. All range between 4 to 64GB. I'm only putting MP3 files on them in folders titled with the artist and album name. I've even tried making a "Music" folder but still nothing. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe leave the drive for a while the car may take some time to recognize it 🤔

You gave me the fix by mentioning rufus. Rufus partitions your drive into 2. 1 for windows and 2 called UEFI_NTFS. Now all you have to do is go into disk management on your pc and delete that volume and format to the supported file system(in my case fat32)

I think it must be the type of memory chip, the flash drives use. I installed an android player in my car recently and tried 3 flash drives.
2 of the flash drives are 64GB, Kingston and Kioxia. I tried everything in both, many files, few files, FAT32, NTFS, exFAT, nothing, the player says "Scanning External Storage Devices" and stays there forever.😮‍💨
And then i tried a Sandisk 250GB with exFAT, with a lot of files MP3's and MKV's Movie files and it works perfect, plays both Audio and Video🤓
So my conclusion, is that you have to be lucky and buy a USB flash drive that is compatible with car players😬

Edit: It works. Just song should be MP3, otherwise it will not play. In my case it was a problem. Thank you.
Please help me. I have a SAMSUNG flash drive 8 GB. When I put it in the car, it does not turn on the music and "error" is written on the screen. This happens when my USB is enabled (FAT32 (default)) format. (Other USB works perfectly in fat32 format. When my flash drive is in NTFS or exFAT format the car stereo screen says only USB and the music does not play. What can I do? I hope I wrote everything correctly.

Hi I got the same/similar system which got 3 Usb ports. Wired back one works but only one out of the two work and the front one don’t work at all.
Port 1 - Charges phone , picks up Usb drive, Carplay device works properly from it.
Other 2 ports - none not of above work on them both but only realised the none working back ports does power something on Carplay device little red light but again system don’t pick up the device.
Any suggestions what could be the problem ?
