Hello i can't use cat6 for crossover, however the straight through really do works. What could be the problem here?

It depends on what you are using the crossover cable for.

What would be the downside to using passthroughs when connecting two like devices?

Gigabit Ethernet was created with a widely used option called Auto-MDIX (automatic medium-dependent interface crossover). This technology detects whether you need a crossover cable or a straight-through cable, and it automatically configures the network interface card accordingly.
Thanks to this technology, if you are using Gigabit Ethernet, chances are you will be able to connect your PCs or hubs with regular, straight-through cables, and the NICs on either end will detect the cable and adjust accordingly. Its pretty cool but for this video I wanted to keep it simple. However with the older PCs or Laptops a crossover cable would be needed. Thanks for the great question.

Can't this enhance internet connection to a ps4

No a crossover should not be used to connect a PS4 to a router or switch. A straight through cable should be used. You can use a Cat7 if you want more bandwidth and speed.

@Rahmi Acar I agree 100 percent. The only advantage of going to Cat6a is the 10 gig speeds for LAN to LAN connections on your private network. However the hardware would need to be upgraded on the NICs and the switches to utilize those speeds. I did a video on Which Ethernet cable do you need and I go over all of this extensively. Cat5e really works well even with 1gig fiber from your ISP. And yes the tighter the copper wires are twisted the faster the speeds and less interference. My network is a combination of Cat6e and Cat6a. My wifi speeds are around 700mbps and my wired speeds are around 800 mbps. Thanks for watching and for commenting.

@@Soulcommander Cat5e will work just fine. Cat6a is a bit over kill for a PS4.
