The Andy Kaufman, Jerry lauler incident is explained in full in the movie MAN ON THE MOON You MUST check it out, the fantastic story of comedic genius Andy Kaufman 😂👍
Chris Evert is a woman tennis player. Jim didn't take kindly to being called out of his name so many times. You wonder if many of these are staged for ratings.
Back in the 70s and 80s, there were many shows of this type that were deliberately set up to provoke confrontation, and then there were others which were actually "scripted and staged" much the same as most of the "Judge" and "Court" shows on afternoon TV.
Jim Everett had a game where he was sacked like 8 times (back when they could really hurt you).....on the last sack someone got remotely close to him and he dropped to the ground giving himself up rather than get hit so people would call him Chris in reference to the female tennis player meaning he was soft
Thanks for the context. At first I was thinking maybe (benefit of doubt) the tennis player was more well known up to that point, and the first "Chris" was a flub; Except you can hear it in the interviewer's voice, that he was antagonizing Jim on purpose 'til he broke. I had an ExH like that. They pick on you incessantly to get you to a point your ears are overstimulated and annoyed by their narc-noise, that you tell them to "stop" in escalating tones, so they can get their ego boost from spooling up your energy,.. "See, I told ya they were soft. Just look how angry they got." People like that suck.
Anyone gonna mention the fact that Roy Innis was on list 2x (including #2) and actually started choking someone, although the later was definitely deserved IMO. P.S. I actually saw the Geraldo show when it originally aired, and it was great tbh! I was old enough to see the Sharpton vs Innis "fight", but dont think I watched Morton Downey Jr. unless nothing else was on.
Andy Kaufman did a lot of stunts like the "fight" on the Letterman show. It got to the point where even his friends didn't believe him when he said he had cancer. They thought it was just another hoax. I used to joke that you could get rich by selling tickets for people to watch Geraldo get hit in the face with a chair. Muhammad Ali was awful to Joe Frazier, and not just during the Cosell interview. He once called Frazier a "gorilla," which is an awful thing to call a black man, even coming from another black man. And this was after Frazier helped support Ali financially while he was suspended from boxing because he had refused induction into the military.
Geraldo Rivera and Morton Downy, Jr. were like Jerry Springer. Their shows survived on provoking situations and people so that fights would happen. Total trash TV.
Morton had his own Infamous moment, approached by reporters from inside edition: He flipped out, grabbed the boom mic from a member of the crew and struck him with it. Years later he expressed remorse not only for that incident but for many things he did on his show. He did become a born-again Christian but by then he was very ill with lung cancer.
A lot of those tables on a news set aren’t designed to hold very much weight at all , a lot are just held together by Velcro so they can be moved around easily.
@@marcpower4167 you should look up the story Burt tells about Eastwood turning into Dirty Harry one night at a bar when they went out drinking. Funny funny funny.
Marc claimed after that Burt said to him "I only did that cause I really like you." And Burt did give him an autographed copy of his autobiography. So sounds like they more or less buried the hatchet.
‘Chris’ is a female tennis player… Jim was an NFL QB (I’m a Rams fan & Jim was always mocked for acting scared in the pocket, because he once fell to the ground to avoid taking a hit)… hence the female ‘nickname’
Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg were actually going to fight in a ring because of their dispute. I would pay to see that. Chris Evert was a champion female tennis player. By calling Jim Everett "Chris" during his playing days, Rome was actually saying that Everett was soft and feminine. Hence the fight. Rome's career plummeted from that point forward.
Andy Kaufman (she mispronounced his name) was hilarious and a genius. I miss him so much. A few mispronunciations of names was driving me nuts. The narrator, if she wasn't AI, clearly never heard of some of these legends, including sports commenator Howard Cosell. I was just a kid when he was at the height of his game. I think he really admired Muhammad Ali, who was, not just "The Greatest" heavy weight champion boxer, but also a very important civil rights legend.
The Andy Kaufman Jerry Lawler situation was a work. That was all there idea they did that to spark interest. Jerry loner has gone a record to tell a lot of people that they were good friends and person. It was all show
Both Morton Downey Jr and Geraldo Rivera revelled in that type of controversy. The closest UK equivalent would be Jeremy Kyle, except their shows would involve more celebrities and issues outside families and/or relationships. But the sentiment was the same. Roy Innis sure seemed to like to take it physical, though. He's in both!
Very ironic considering the types of shows he did which often required him to get slimed. Apparently the producers agreed they'd only mess him up if it added to the show. And he has gotten somewhat better about his OCD since.
Andy Kaufman was a very bizarre person. He, himself, claimed to be more a "performance artist" than a traditional comedian. That "incident" on the Letterman Show wasn't revealed as being staged until ten years later. Another time, Kaufman had an elderly woman fake a heart attack and pretend to die on stage. He then left the stage and returned wearing an Indian headdress and did a medicine dance to "revive" her.
Andy kaufman is the greatest troll who has ever lived. His whole career and public life he acted as one of various characters that he invented. You really need to check him out he is the weirdest, most cringey comedian that ever lived and IMHO one of the greatest.
There's a bit more to the back story with the Marc Summers/ Burt Reynolds incident, Marc had been invited 9 times to be on the show but got bumped for time, on this show he was about to be bumped again (instead of Carrot Top) but his agent said "bump him again and we won't come back". I gotta say as much as I am a fan of Marc Summers, if you watch the full segment, he was kinda being an ass. There's a reason he wasn't invited back again.
Jim Everett and Jim Rome was one where both were idiots. Rome was always just trying to be controversial to make a name for himself. Note: Nobody knows who he is today, so that didn't work out well for him. As far as calling him "Chris" Evert, it was a dig at his manhood, calling him the female tennis player's name. However it's a compliment, as Chris Evert was a great champion, which can not be said for Jim. So he could have turned that around on him so easily, but he's not too bright either.
@@chrischar9428 That means we're both in the same number of relevant HOFs. And personal attacks are how you let people know you've lost the argument. Well done!
As someone whose had a small TH-cam channel/podcast with similar or slightly more views, he ain't making no money doing this. Only reason I ever made a dollar doing it was two small sponsors. Reaction channels usually don't have that so they're reliant on views.
Jim Everette was a really bad NFL quarterback,Chris Everette was a really good female tennis star Jim should’ve took it as a compliment. But Jim Rome has always been an ass.

Jerry Lawler admitted many years later that his whole thing with Andy Kaufman was staged.
That one clearly was

Kabir in case you don't know Chris Evert is a famous "female" #1 tennis player. That's why the wrong name was really pissing him off.

This is all a slow day on The Jerry Springer Show
Andy And Lawler set the slap up, Lettermen was not in on it, but they set it up ahead of time
That table figjt was soo funny 🤣🤣

Reynolds was old school just like Eastwood and Bronson. If you started goofing around with them there was a good chance you would be getting decked.
For the most part he was actually being a good sport about it at first, but once Marc started getting in on it.....enough is enough.
@@marcpower4167 you should look up the story Burt tells about Eastwood turning into Dirty Harry one night at a bar when they went out drinking. Funny funny funny.
that one with the table coming apart was hilarious.
Frazier and Ali were friends. Frazier gave Ali money while Ali was suspended for refusing the Vietnam draft... They were both GREAT MEN.
Looked like a box under that table that was shredded
Hi Kabir! Show hosts Downey, and Rivera were notorious for staging contentious situations between guests on their shows. Not top drawer stuff.
3:03 Look at the Benjamin Franklin on the screen in the background while they're fighting. 😂
Burt Reynolds almost ko’d Marc summers with that pie to the face 😮

Zuck's wife could probably do more damage to Musk then he could
If I called anyone a mushroom, over time it would begin to eat away at them. Same thing here.
I worked with a guy that said he was the guy that he threw the chair at Geraldo. Scary dude

I remember the heraldo brawl, that was crazy, those racists should not have been given air time!!
. . "F off Rivara, that was a fist that hit you" . Slim Shady
Jim Rome is what you said he is
Hooliganism 😂😂😂😂😂
The Andy Kaufman Jerry Lawler situation was a work. That was all there idea they did that to spark interest. Jerry loner has gone a record to tell a lot of people that they were good friends and person. It was all show
Those bunnies got very angry 🤣
Man on the moon is a pretty good movie.. I see others beat me to it.

I thought there was some discussion between Musk and Zuckerberg having an MMA-style fight? Might watch that.
Good old Howard Gazelle
People from the Gen Z era and younger can't seem to pronounce Howard Cosell's last name correctly.
check out some of the old jerry springer shows
Check out Canada’s Premier Justin Trudeau boxing match. He wasn’t the Premier yet. That was vs. Patrick Brazeau.
Burt Reynolds was such a POS back in the day and I never got how he was so hot or anything.
I think he was a closet case as well
The irony is Marc Summers famously had very severe OCD.
Very ironic considering the types of shows he did which often required him to get slimed. Apparently the producers agreed they'd only mess him up if it added to the show. And he has gotten somewhat better about his OCD since.

I would SO watch a fight between Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg!
In America, you better keep your hands to yourself. Both of those guys touched the other first, self defense.
What about when somebody threw a shoe at George Bush lol
that was not staged...
The bit with Burt Reynolds and Marc Sommers was likely staged, so I've heard.
It's not the tables fault.
Geraldo Rivera wanted the controversy. It was like
Who the hell throws a shoe..
Yea that hurt Jim Romes carrer hes a jackass
Oh, two billionaires fighting in the US would totally be a thing. AND we'd sell tickets as we televised it. It's already a fad.
I would love to see Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg throw punches lol... but I don't like either of them and neither would get charged :(
You pause and talk over the video as it plays
“WoMeN aRe tOO eMoTiOnaL”
Not a woman in the list. 🤷🏻♂️
Chris Evert was a female tennis player so basically calling him a woman. Geraldo is an AH I don't feel sorry for him.
I think the inherent and unsolvable difficulties in the Middle East has been shown on this video... joking but not..
The narrator can't pronounce names properly.
