"You could whistle or hum it. Anyone with three fingers could play it, and if you had one ear and a bucket you could carry the tune. It was catchy, and vulgar, and mean-spirited. It spread through the University like a fire in a field.”
So, I watched this video before I had even heard of The Name of the Wind, and I was so curious about the context of this song I went out and bought the book. Thank you so much!
I don't think he has! I would love him to see it and I've submitted it on the blog when they had that calling all musicians moment but I was pretty far down the list. Maybe I should tweet it at him?
Exactly what I had imagined! I know there are other 'Jackass, Jackass' around here on TH-cam, and some of them MAY have made a deeper research, talking with Pat or whatnot, but yours is still the very best I've found! As Michael said below, it's just PERFECT! This song gave exactly the same vibes as the book gives when describing it :D
The wait is real, but as a writer I can understand how tough it is. But that's not gonna stop me from getting in a dig every now and again aha. Common book three!!!
Just finished reading the first book and my heart sank when I found out how long it's been. Personally I highly doubt the book is coming out. I read that it was supposedly "summer 2023" and we can see how that turned out...
this is so good...literally caught myself humming the tune to myself 10 min after watching this. Just as in the book, such a simple but catchy tune. Great Work!
I can't stop listening to this. I've found it like half an hour ago and I've already memorized more than half of it. I don't care if other versions have worked with Rothfuss or not, THIS is canon now. It's simple, it's intelligent, it's malicious, it's catchy, it's all it was meant to be. I love this so much. Edit: because I wasn't done yet
This is phenomenal. I've just started reading the books, and just got to this chapter and really wanted to hear the song. I think this is a wonderful rendition of it! Thank you for letting me laugh at Ambrose fully.
Love this song :) Decided to try for a verse! This Jackass can be brought around, it says so on his bit But there ain’t no girl in Imre who would lead this little tit He bucks and kicks and makes a scene but when he’s done he cries; he still ain’t got a girl to come and wipe away the flies
It's hard to say how much I like this, and by extension, you. The tune you've created is appropriately catchy and I can totally imagine that scene where Kvothe and Ambrose are before the council, and Elodin starts singing this before dissolving into a fit of giggles. Too funny. Great job.
This is one of my favorite versions ever. I do believe it will be the first version I will undertake to learn. I feel that the song is like tinker tanner that there can be a multitude of versions, so long as they follow a handful of the same verses and the heart of the song they are all true.
I just discovered it and it makes me so happy! Love this song, it is so catchy and perfect ❤️ I play violin so it took me about hour to recognize chords but now I can take guitar and play it 🤩
Thanks for doing this! As soon as I got to the part where they made the song, I got a big stupid grin on my face. I was so happy there was an actual song :)
the version of the song is hilarious and amazing. I can imagine Elodin sing it laudly after the sentence of kvothe It's like the book says hahaha. I found my self singing it without even noticing, in the street, in the house, in the bed when going to sleep, the song in my head, when i wake up my brain start singing.
I was reading the books for the third time and thought to myself, I wonder if someone has made of version of jackass jackass on TH-cam, and sure enough, here it was and was way better than I even thought it could be.
I love the song! This is exactly what I would have imagined Kvolthe to sing :D This got stuck in my head all day, but it actually proves a real challenge to sing at your pace for a non native speaker!
"You could whistle or hum it. Anyone with three fingers could play it, and if you had one ear and a bucket you could carry the tune. It was catchy, and vulgar, and mean-spirited. It spread through the University like a fire in a field.”
I’ve had this song stuck in my head since I was first shown this video. Catchy indeed.
accurate depiction
"He's licking someone's books" is the best, most Kvothe, line ever
Singing Jackass, Jackass is not of the Lethani.
Mild reproach (sign)
I'm in tears 😂
This comment is so underrated
I wish more people could appreciate this comment
Neither is Ambrose.
Ambrose dislikes this.
I'm okay with this :P
Best version of this song that I've seen. This is how I picture a drunk K'vothe and Den writing it, clever but fun, simple, and just petty enough.
Thanks!
Even 8 years later and this song still gets stuck in my head. This is cannon as far as I’m concerned, might as well be without the third book
I think of this song every time I hear the word “Jackass” or “Donkey”. It’s dangerously catchy.
Best version of the jackass song.. I pictured master elodin singing it🤣
Samee! the first thing that come to my mind😂
So, I watched this video before I had even heard of The Name of the Wind, and I was so curious about the context of this song I went out and bought the book. Thank you so much!
Yes! I converted one! Such a great book!
Only 7.4 billion left! Convert the world! Praise the merciful Tehlu!
Still waiting for doors of stone? 😢
Following up 5 years later. How did you find the series?
That is a helluvan introduction to the story.
Bravo! The crowd at the Eolian cheers for you! Your style and smile are wonderful.
and now you have no chance at having a patron
Has Patrick Rothfuss seen this? Please tell me he has.
I don't think he has! I would love him to see it and I've submitted it on the blog when they had that calling all musicians moment but I was pretty far down the list. Maybe I should tweet it at him?
You should, I think he'd get a massive kick out of this. :D I did!
Just did! thanks for the push :)
Did he ever get around to seeing this?
@@AnnaBosnick what did he answered?
Litterally just read this part of the book and i was like "wtf... this sounds familiar" when straight to this song and it finally connected
+Guilherme Coppini Thank you so much!!!
I didn't realize how much I needed this until I heard it. Bring on the 3rd book, please Pat
Definitely have to learn this on my ukulele. A masterful rendition!
The one dislike is Ambrose
Nice profile pic :P
And his fellas LOL
It looks like he spread his dislike to the fellow gentry.
Years goes by and I just keep returning here! JUST LOVE THAT SONG! Ambrose would be so pissed with it. lol
The fact that you made this song simply from the description, and the one line "a pizzle bound to fizzle" is so impressive.
I forgot what number of rereads I’m on, and I am humming this over the stone bridge back to the university. I think you nailed it!
this is so good...literally caught myself humming the tune to myself 10 min after watching this. Just as in the book, such a simple but catchy tune. Great Work!
Thanks!
And the Eolian breaks into applause!
I can't stop listening to this. I've found it like half an hour ago and I've already memorized more than half of it. Edit: because I wasn't done yet
Glorious, xD
I could picture Kvothe singing this whilst drunk, xD
Awesome job!
Awesome! Glad you like it!
This is phenomenal. I've just started reading the books, and just got to this chapter and really wanted to hear the song. I think this is a wonderful rendition of it! Thank you for letting me laugh at Ambrose fully.
...In the Tehlin's cassock!
Love this song :) Decided to try for a verse!
This Jackass can be brought around, it says so on his bit
But there ain’t no girl in Imre who would lead this little tit
He bucks and kicks and makes a scene but when he’s done he cries;
he still ain’t got a girl to come and wipe away the flies
I'll be memorizing this now :-)
Good one!
This song has made me more happy than anything in a while. Thank you for making my days. 😊
I cannot love this song enough. Never fails to raise my spirits, thank you
It's hard to say how much I like this, and by extension, you. The tune you've created is appropriately catchy and I can totally imagine that scene where Kvothe and Ambrose are before the council, and Elodin starts singing this before dissolving into a fit of giggles. Too funny. Great job.
Thank you! Elodin sings the most memorable part of the song too so I figured I should end on it :D
damn. Now I'll need some serious Alar to get this song out of my head.
Ksksksksksksksksksks
Eu tbm !
love this!! the song was always described the song as deviously catchy, and this version sure is!! i'll be humming it for weeks lol !
Merciful tehlu! Give her pipes right away folks! What are you waiting for?
This is PERFECT and so what I imagined!!!
+Michael Mercadel Thanks, dude! I tried to be accurate to the book!
This is one of my favorite versions ever. I do believe it will be the first version I will undertake to learn. I feel that the song is like tinker tanner that there can be a multitude of versions, so long as they follow a handful of the same verses and the heart of the song they are all true.
This is fantastic! xD And I now have an intense urge to re-read the books...
Muahahahaha!
This made me gleefully smile, thank you for this
Jackaas paid people to dislike this song.
I just discovered it and it makes me so happy! Love this song, it is so catchy and perfect ❤️ I play violin so it took me about hour to recognize chords but now I can take guitar and play it 🤩
This is hands down my favorite version :-) I sing it to myself at work and it raises my spirits! Thank you :D
Thanks for doing this! As soon as I got to the part where they made the song, I got a big stupid grin on my face. I was so happy there was an actual song :)
Anna, that was priceless, thank you. So much fun. I love those books so much!
I just want to remind you how awesome this is, and thank you for this wonderful work of art
+Timothy Colon Thanks!
I come to this every few months when I see a Jackiss irl lmao. Thank you so much for this.
I appear to have two options. Either listen to this over and over to learn it or wait for a lyrics version... Worth it
I found this cause I was randomly listening to RPG music, saved.
This is my favorite fanmade version of the song! Awesome!
yup, i'm memorizing this purely to make people wonder where i got it from.
P.S ; Tinker Tanner anyone? ;)
Sweet! Let them know if they ask! I've been working on a tinker tanner. It's not done yet though ;)
Anna Smith can't wait
Tinker tanner! Yes pls!!!

Wow, it really gets stuck in your mind
Whenever I am feeling down I watch this video, thanks for laughs.
I am so glad you like it so much!
I came to your TH-cam page looking for the duet you did with Eli on Scathing, and found this delightful surprise instead. Day. Made.
Still one of my favourite songs
Just read TNOTW and searched for the song. Brilliant job!!
the version of the song is hilarious and amazing. I can imagine Elodin sing it laudly after the sentence of kvothe
It's like the book says hahaha. I found my self singing it without even noticing, in the street, in the house, in the bed when going to sleep, the song in my head, when i wake up my brain start singing.
Best version to this day.
This song is just wow
Hahahahahaha!!! Amazing song!! I love it!!
I was reading the books for the third time and thought to myself, I wonder if someone has made of version of jackass jackass on TH-cam, and sure enough, here it was and was way better than I even thought it could be.
Hilarious and extremely catchy. :) Great job!

Fantastic

By far the best version of this song which I have heard! XD
Why do I love this song so much? Like seriously, it's beautiful
Belongs in the books. Thanks a lot for this!
Love it.
I love the song! This is exactly what I would have imagined Kvolthe to sing :D
This got stuck in my head all day, but it actually proves a real challenge to sing at your pace for a non native speaker!
Nelyah I'm really glad you liked it! I added the lyrics in the comments so you can sing it at whatever pace you want :)
