Mercenary Territory
-- music by Lowell George, Richie Hayward
-- Lyrics by Lowell George
Is it the lies?
Is it the style?
It's a mercenary territory
I wish you knew the story
I've been out here so long dreamin up songs
I'm temporarily qualmless and sinking
I've did my time in that rodeo
It's been so long and I've got nothing to show
Well I'm so plain loco
Fool that I am I'd do it all over again
Is it the style?
Is it the lies?
Is it the days into nights
Or the "I'm sorry"s into fights
Now some kind of man, he can't do anything wrong
If I see him I'll tell him you're waiting
'Cause I'm devoted for sure but my days are a blur
Well your nights turn into my mornings
Well I did my time in that rodeo
Fool that I am I'd do it all over again
Is it love keeps you waiting so long
Makes you say I'll see you around
The forces that be, they just don't see
While your nights turn into my mornings
Is it the style?
Is it the lies?
Is it the days into nights
Or the "I'm sorrys" into fights
Perhaps one of the GREATEST songs ever! ❤
My favourite band for 47 years! So many good times.
Go Scott! Well done here.
Saw Fred playing his horn at Painters Mill Music Fair. That was a great venue with the round stage set in the middle. Memories... of a long gone venue. Fred can still get it done at 76.
Indeed. I mentioned how amazed I was that Fred was still performing at such a high level. His response “It’s a man’s job!”
This was is remains one of their (Lowell’s) greatest tunes! And Scott has developed his own sense of excellence for both the vocal and lead… Billy as creative as he’s ever been… the horns (w the slide) have always made the song - thank you Fred for an extra new dose. And all over top of the rock steady yet wandering rhythm…
It’s So F*ing Great to see Feat totally alive again!
Billy straight up madman on this one!
Bill is an amazing musician
