I booked a room for a couple nights there may 2024. I stayed in the main tower and found that tower to be resently upgraded, and back to excellent condition as in years past. I spoke to a couple employees that said the other towers are also scheduled for the same upgrades. Doesn't make since they would poor millions in remodels to plan to sale for destruction of the whole property, and totally new construction....... note, this was not just a fix it up to get buy a little longer, but true long term intended construction. However, what I could see happening, destroy the casino which is the circus tent and rebuilding a new theme casino, leaving the towers of hotel rooms in tact. The location so far north on the strip was a major problem for decades, but Resorts world, Fountain Blue, and other resorts has breathed new life to the area Circus is in.
I have lots of memories at Circus Circus. Even as a young kid in the mid 1970s. I remember the shows. I hope the new owners just do some updates and maintenance while keeping most of the original flare intact. This is the very few casinos / hotels left still have the "Old Vegas" feel from the 1960s and 1970s.
EDIT: I also almost forgot to mention that I remember the World's Largest Buffet in the 1980s. It was a sight to see!
As a child of seven years of age (Sept 1969), I visited Circus Circus as a bribe by my mother to entice happiness in a weekend visit to family friends. My mother, aunt., and 12 year old brother went on a Friday night to see Joan Baez in concert, while I was watching the only three TV channels broadcast programming. Circus Circus as a pay-as-you-go carnival-style place with no general admission fees like today. Parking was also free. Never had the buffet. Long live Circus Circus!
First off, the Circus Circus Strakhouse is one of the best in Las Vegas!! I know, I was shocked too the first time I was at a dinner party being held there 30-plus years ago but the Steakhouse is excellent!! With everything else in Las Vegas going way upscale, Circus Circus has a definite niche. Their capital costs are relatively low and did some consulting for a subcontractor who was involved in a relatively recent room refresh. The refreshed rooms are fine plus they are close to the new West Hall of the LV Convention Center. Don't believe Ruffin & Co. would tear it down. Last thing that area needs is another high-end property as Resorts World, Wynn, and Fontainbleau, etc. are beating each other up for the high-end business.

Great video and informative as well. According to my research and friend who works there in Vegas, there are 2 high level Casino Owners in Vegas, Caesars and Vici aka Vici properties who competes with Caesars over ownership of Casino Hotel properties on the Strip. Being that Circus Circus is Financially fit and free of tax obligations, I don't think they are going to sell off their Winning ticket. But , According to my friend in Vegas, 3 employees left to work at other bigger hotels for higher pay, and that Circus Circus stopped allowing people to take pics or videos when Kids are present because of high level trafficking and crime. According to my friend, They want to buy out the properties around them that bring crime and to clear out the area of such for the safety of the patrons and families and expand their property around them to clear out the unwanted homeless and druggies in the area. Hope he does that...
The back offices/suites and RV areas that are abandoned definitely need to come down. The old pool areas - never get used any more. The front is tired and dated. So lots of work to be done But selling the main casino? Not likely. It'll be like the Gold Coast or Orleans - not moving for anything because it doesn't have to, no matter how old and funky it gets.
That was my 1st place I stayed in Vegas 37 years ago.😀

If they tear down the Manor hotel rooms across the street from the main Circus Circus buildings and towers, it wouldn't break my heart.
I mean I'm sure you make lots of money when you don't ever remodel a place and let it get run down.
Its a great spot! Very popular among the Latin community. Virtually across the street from the taco place and close to the north strip.
Phil is expanding the concert venue portion of the property, I think they’re going BIG! Not tearing down nothing.

My parents owned an HVAC business and would sneak off to Vegas for the weekend to destress 3-4 times a year. We even took for family vacations there and always stayed at Circus. I spent a lot of time on the Midway and in the Adventurdome (I'm old enough to still remember it as Grand Slam Canyon) Some of my best memories are at Circus Circus. It holds a special place in my heart. I remember bugging my parents to ride the monorail despite our room being in the main casino tower so we had no need. I just wanted to ride the monorail for the sake of riding the monorail.
Great Video Steve .....CC is a classic property and is great entry point for families on a budget to come see Vegas ...I walked threw last trip and definitely looks and looks cleaner and fresher inside since they started the renovations ....Would not make sense to ever close and demolish it as Vegas already has many new properties now and as nice as they look they are not doing so hot financially..
I mean, Circus Circus already looks like it's in the process of being torn down anyway.
I remember that I went into the Circus Circus casino back in 2004. I was amazed at the circus acts above the casino floor.
Although we would never stay there....Friends and I have been going there since we were kids...and now that we are in our late 50's, we still make a trip to Circus each time we are in town. If you ever see a group of guys in their 50's at the Midway area, that's us. Hope Circus Circus stays forever...

The Circus Circus was the first hotel I ever stayed in during a Las Vegas vacation - just after my 21st birthday in 1993.
Circus Circus is nice to visit when you are in Vegas! It's fun and entertaining that doesn't cost a lot. I love Circus Circus for the fun factor.
In 1993 I spent a week walking though every resort and casino on the strip. Even then I felt Circus Circus was at the bottom of the heap. In the past three decades very little TLC has been spent keeping the hotel and casino up to date. If it is a cash cow as reported, it will not be demolished until planning is approved and investors/lenders are brought together. The economy is cycling through a downturn for now. I can’t see anything changing news-wise for another three years.
I hope it’s just a rumor… we stayed across the street in April at Sahara, even though it’s new we prefer to stay at the older places for a true Vegas experience. We walked over to CC and hung out for a while. It was great, not fabulous but great. The nostalgia is real!!

Back in the 90s when Wet n Wild was nearby on the strip I remember my friends & ditched the water park for the Circus Circus buffet lunch… just 12ish year old kids livin it up with no parents… good times😂
For years, we thought Circus circus is a FIRE TRAP. Dirty too !
In the 90's my two sons, fifteen and nine walked from the Flamingo to Circus Circus on a sunny mild December day and we had a fine time. I was in the casino and they were on the rides and that stuff. When we came out the sun was just beginning to set but it was getting pretty cool and we walked back. I don't know how far it is but it seemed like twenty miles with an nine year old boy whining and complaining the whole way back, because I made him walk. He walks a lot now after two DUI's and I can barely walk around the block with the dogs. The older son hasn't dropped by since Father's Day when he said he would be back the next day to help me with some things. He lives five miles away and has a car and no DUI. Maybe it's because I made him walk back from Circus Circus and he just kept his rage bottled up inside. Probably not.

Circus circus is unique and historic and that's why it's still there. Anything that replaces it if ever will not succeed.

Circus Circus needs to stay, it only needs to be renovated. Hope someone who buys it will renovate it instead of turning it down. People have lots of memories there.
UFC looking to get out of the MGM contract so they’ll partner with others to hold their own events and get out from under the Tierney of MGM. Building their own casino and stadium/arena.
Building another mega resort down there with RW and FB struggling seems dumb to me. Maybe build a mid price place for a change.
One thing I'd like to note about circus circus turning a profit, in vegas a hotel doesn't need to be in the red to get knocked down. The Tropicana was turning a good profit still up until closing day.
Now I don't think there is any chance circus circus is closing down, but Tropicana shows us that current profits don't matter compared to future potential.
Used to work at gift shop in 1973 for a pretty girl Sandy. Years later I found out in numerous articles that it was leased to Tony Spilotro. I enjoy your Vegas history.

Local here: My guess is that the Circus Circus will be sold along with the Festival Grounds. I bet Ruffin is using CC as leverage. The NBA (Shaq or Lebron), MLB (Athletics or Expansion), MLS, and Hollywood Studios (Favorable Laws) want to be in Vegas. The sites for those arenas will be either the Trop site, Rio, All Net site (across the street from CC), and the Festival Grounds. Lots of strategic moves in the works.

What will likely happen is the back areas/office suites/old RV park areas ( about 1/3 of the property - completely abandoned ) will be torn down and something new built there. They might also tear down the amusement park as it's been not making money for years and has issues with age and safety. But the main casino makes them decent money. It will likell still be there 30 years from now.
If they tear it down, they should just rebuild and more modern Circus Circus or a Wolf Lodge

In reality, it would be the best thing for that place. It is a rundown trashy disgrace. Absolutely filthy from top to bottom. Unless it’s a complete renovation of everything, it’s a total loss. Sorry but it is what it is.
I quit going down there when they closed Westward Ho and Stardust. I only go to Freemont street the last 15 years.

It was a dump 25 years ago... lord knows how bad it is now! The only thing it had going for it was the Carousel Bar, made famous in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", and they just closed it!

Phil actually payed a little less for Treasure Island, 775 million (I think). It most likely cash flows more than 100 million per year. An amazing buy when you think about it. (I know it was 2008).
CC is part of the old Vegas when it was good. Vegas needs to stop tearing down the past

lots of history in that hotel-casino, BUT its dying, i walked thru it in May, its pretty bad. IF they gave it a FULL facelift, it could be good.

Jealousy! Circus Circus Is cruisin' while many of the other are losin'! Being that Circus Circus is relatively comfortable in its niche, it will be around for awhile till the owner decides (based on changes in its revenue) to refresh, or rebuild, or.....whatever. His call!
I have no problem with parents taking their kids to Circus Circus. Just make sure you give them enough money to play the arcade games until you're done gambling. My parents only gave me a few dollars which lasted about five minutes.

If you haven't read it, "Grandissimo" (about Jay Sarno) is an interesting read. As nice as Caesars Palace is, Circus Circus is not... and Jay created both.

Lots of people are done with Las Vegas. Machines are tight, Dealers cheat (Pit Bosses see a phone) they chase the person off.
CC still has rewards club promos posted on website they haven't honored in years. Claim old management promotion. Or maybe it's only valid for young women and minorities who knows. It's still up there ripping off customers.
I like Circus 🎪. I just don't like the location. I actually prefer the Westgate right around the corner. The Westgate has a Monorail station that takes us to the LinQ.
After 20 years they finally paint it and NOW they are going to tear it down? 🤣
