This is such an awesome DIY, if I do say so myself! How to make a button necklace that is a "shabby chic" style. I cannot tell you how many people have come up to me and asked about my necklace. I'm so excited too show you how to make one for yourself.

Tooooo cute!!! You probably know this by now, but a beading mat is very handy and will keep the buttons/beads from sliding around. Can be purchased from most craft/bead stores for less than $5 depending on the amount in the package and possibly, where you live.

Hi Everyone, I saw this video about a month ago and just had to try it. So I went directly went to Amazon, ordered some beautiful satin ribbon (about 12 different colors), some gorgeous painted button and colorful wooden buttons (both from China), collapsible needle and waited... when they finally arrived: back to the video. Then I hit a snag. When I threaded the satin ribbon through the collapsible needle, because both the tail and ribbon needed to go through the button hole, it just WOULD NOT GO. Way too thick. So of course, I googled to see if anyone else made the same stupid mistake (I didn't read all the comments, or I would have known). Not one person had a "trick" to make it work. I really wanted this necklace so I had to get a little "creative". It worked! I cut one end of the ribbon into a point; stitched it to a regular needle and thread and it pulled right through the button hole. I now have my beautiful necklace. Thank you so much for sharing. I had to document this experience so if there is another stubborn person who googles this problem, maybe I can save them from themself.

Hi Debbie Hipps …Thanks so much for letting everyone know your "Button Necklace" journey. The ribbon I used is a "Silk Ribbon" that was hand-dyed. I'm glad your necklace turned out as beautiful as you had hoped! Happy Holidays!

    • @BellaBranchDIY

Hi Reenie Novak ...thanks for the sweet compliment! I actually made them and painted them about 15 years ago. You can go to a Paint and Clay place in your area and ask if they can order you a giant Latte cup. And then have a hole drilled on the bottom, so you can make it into a pendant light. Then you simply paint them with glaze and turn them into light fixture, Super easy!!!!
