  • Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2012 | Venice, more than any other European city, has an endlessly seductive charm. For centuries, it was nicknamed La Serenissima, "The Most Serenely Beautiful One"- and for good reason. Along with sampling the sumptuous art treasures of Venice and exploring its back-street wonders, we'll cruise its lagoon, stopping in fiery Murano for glass, pastel Burano for lace, and murky Torcello for a sense of where Venice was born. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #venice

    Many thanks to Rick and the team! This is my 2nd time watching this video, after the 1st time that must have been so long ago that I don't remember when. Have to say that I enjoyed it even better this second time around.
    Been to Venice 3 times, but still appreciate every minute of this video. Thank you all for creating this for us.

    Go out of season! Get to the main sights early or late, pick just one or two attractions each day and spend a lot of time getting lost, people watching and eating in small family restaurants, riding around on the vaporetti. Magic!!

      Better then arriving early, buy your tickets in advance so you do not have to wait in line. I went in January so there were no lines. Unfortunately, many businesses on Murano and Burano were closed, It seems they only operate during the more active times of the tourist season. Another piece of advice is learn how the water buses work. ACTV & Alilaguna.

    Great history from this place, you where lucky enough to see the Rialto Bridge without it being under reconstruction as it has been for the last months. And they added a horrible Diesel commercial on the center of it, terrible! Anyway, I recently finished my video of Venice, didn't show much of Rialto for that reason, but did showed a lot of the city and architecture hope you can get a chance to check it out!

    Rick's video is making me wish my trip to Venice were tomorrow instead of in the fall...what an intriguing city. One question, maybe picky, is troubling me...in a Lonely Planet video they advise that Venice has no sewage system and that "everything" gets flushed into the ocean...and yet locally caught fresh fish are a popular menu item..I find that a bit of a disconnect..or is that just me? Just curious. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

    • @shannonclark4502
      @shannonclark4502 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I'd be thinking about that, too. Victoria, BC has never had a sewage system either, but I am told the ocean is the perfect filter. I hope you get good news about the fish :)
