We could do Caicedo/Lavia in the 6 with Palmer and Nkunku as the 2 8s. I want that but defensive issues mean we have to continue with the double pivot 4 security.

I hope Chilly gets a good move to somewhere like Napoli or Atletico Madrid. He’s hugely underrated because of his injuries and occasional poor game on a comeback. If we're all in on Maresca style 3-box-3 then we need an attacking player on the left 8 as well. Currently we have a regista who offers just about nothing in the final third and meanwhile Palmer is constantly dropping deep to get the ball moving forward at a decent speed. There's really not a whole lot of reason why Palmer couldn't do the job Enzo is doing and then Nkunku could swap over and do the hyper-attacking 8 job.
In terms of Reece. I think that Enzo builds his tactic to let Reece play straight after recovery. On paper Gusto is better out wide and Cucu as inverted wing back, but we play with Gusto in the middle. So my guess is that Maresca knows exactly how great Reece was as midfielder for Wigan in his early days. He realy could be that missing DM that we were looking for since Kante was forced to play higher.

In my head it kind of makes sense but I know there are downsides to it i think Maresca ought to try it though Edit: his pace in defense would make up the lack of physicality in certain situations and also joao felix has already been used in that role (albeit only at the end of a game) and I think nkunku would be a more natural fit here
