Learn the rules of the game before complaining. Korea definitely got away with some fouls but so did Italy. It's called sports. We all know that the game wasn't clean, but here's my take: What in the world is Italy even doing in this position where they're not so far ahead of Korea that any dishonesty by whomever wouldn't make a difference? Totti a two-foot player, was dribbling to enter the box with adequate space and time to fire a left-foot shot to goal. Instead Totti was looking to knock head-on into a Korean defender. One of the greatest performances for south korea ever. (And against Spain as well). Referee was intense that day... Almost like a twelfth player, the way they were able to handle first the Italian team here and then the Spanish team.
Unfortunately, no one has any photos or videos taken accurately from that angle. It may or may not be offside. I didn't notice any problems with the referee in this game. However, the only problem is that the referee does not blow the whistle.

If we look at this most objectively, while there is a decent case for feeling slighted by the officiating, way too much has been made of this match from a conspiracy standpoint. First, let's get the two basic matters for Italy out of the way: 1) don't lose to Croatia in groups by blowing a lead, and you wouldn't be in this matchup (you'd have lost to us instead ;)), 2) don't concede with fewer than three minutes to go plus stoppage time, and you wouldn't be left exposed to a dubious finish in extra time, and 3) Vieri's right foot in regulation was worse than a high schooler's, and he had two *perfect* opportunities to bury a second to clinch the win in regulation. There seems to be an unwarranted aura of superiority when this South Korea run is discussed, but truth is, Italy and Spain (the latter because they lose to Ireland if Kilbane doesn't WHIFF a penalty putback) simply wasn't good enough in this tournament to warrant feeling like it was all victimization leading to their downfall. Italy in particular didn't protect leads, so they went home. Meanwhile, in 2006, they protected their leads... and they won it all. =) As for this match specifically... - The early penalty was justified - The Totti yellow was justified... and it was already the second elbow from Italy (Vieri in the 8th) - The elbow to Coco was friendly fire - The elbow to Del Piero should've been a yellow, just like what Totti got - Totti absolutely flopped in extra time, and the Korean even got a touch on the ball, but Moreno didn't even have the decency to give eye contact after giving the second yellow... which is merely a travesty, not a conspiracy. These officials get their little egos and don't like to be questioned. - Tommasi probably wasn't offside in the 110th, but the whistle blew before the Korean keeper tried to play the ball, so I can't confidently say Tommasi scores Hard to hear this, but South Korea played a winning match. And Italy got severely handicapped because the official didn't respect the magnitude of a second yellow during a knockout stage game. Well, they DID have a shot. And the past 20 years have shown how much the world has caught up to Europe. The elbow to the face of Del Piero is a straight red every time. You must know that. It was in the box and it could have been a penalty as well. Totti fell because his back leg was clipped. He did not dive. I would have said no penalty and no yellow card. The kick to Maldini's head? Inexcusable. You have to agree with that.
Two reds were not given to korea (intentional elbow to the face and maldini's head being kicked) , totti did not dive i would've given no penalty and no yellow, tommasi wasn't offside. Spain were robbed worse than us though.

Heard a lot of things about this match, the ref, the violence, But from what it is shown here, it looks quite normal to me, most ref whistles are good(except for totti one, i'd say it is too harsh, but i think still a arguably reasonable blow). I missed this game because I was at school. I was so shocked and upset when I heard the result 😅. The Totti red card was a travesty. OK it might not have been a penalty, but look how far away the ref was. No way he can see clearly enough to claim it's a dive and send him off. He wanted to send Totti off for some reason. Idk, the german broadcast angles in this video clear a lot of the supposedly "biased" plays were not biased at all. Tensions were high at the time, europeans just thought asians were inferior and their only possible explanation is that the ref was bought, despite Italy also playing super dirty this game.

Its just people at that time couldnt think an asian country could beat an europea country. Their hubris at the time didnt let them see that the Italians were playing just as dirty. I watched this game which was the most disgusting game of football I've ever seen. They cancelled Italy's valid goad which wasn't in this upload and Italy at least should have given two penalties which was cancelled by the referee who played as the 12th player for South Korea. Very poor sportsmanship from South Korean team. They co tinued the same in the quarters against Spain and before the semi-final German team told if south Korea continues this way in the semi-final they will not play that game. If the italians had been more sharp infront of goal it could've ended much different (like 3-1 or 4-1 to Italy). I don't see the reason to blame the referee since it's a clear defensive mistake from Italy that gives South Korea the opportunity to score that golden goal to begin with.

Sono arrivato qui adesso perché ho rivisto il match di Chamizo e come una giura corrotta ha palesemente cambiato l'esito di una sfida valevole per qualificarsi alle olimpiadi.
Per coincidenza questo è avvenuto in una nazione dove il denaro olia tutti gli ingranaggi.
Sono giorni che da sportivo non riesco a darmi pace per il torto subìto da Chamizo.
Sono andato indietro nel tempo è mi sono ricordato che avevo assistito a qualcosa di simile guardando questa partita di calcio in cui l'Italia sfidava la Korea del Sud.
Ho trovato lo stesso livello di corruzione.
Comunque parliamo e parliamo, ma purtroppo è andata.
E permettimi di osservare, che il danno è stato non solo la "partita". Quale messaggio si passa ai piccoli che fanno sport?
Nello sport va avanti chi merita e se ci sono queste crepe è dura perché nello sport si devono formare persone pulite.
Senza parlare del fatto che nello specifico abbiamo perso un allenatore che Ancelotti qualche tempo fa in un'intervista aveva definito "Number One"riferendosi ad un componente del suo staff che aveva lavorato proprio con Trapattoni.

One of the greatest performances for south korea ever. (And against Spain as well). Referee was intense that day... Almost like a twelfth player, the way they were able to handle first the Italian team here and then the Spanish team.

Unfortunately, no one has any photos or videos taken accurately from that angle. It may or may not be offside. I didn't notice any problems with the referee in this game. However, the only problem is that the referee does not blow the whistle.

If we look at this most objectively, while there is a decent case for feeling slighted by the officiating, way too much has been made of this match from a conspiracy standpoint. First, let's get the two basic matters for Italy out of the way: 1) don't lose to Croatia in groups by blowing a lead, and you wouldn't be in this matchup (you'd have lost to us instead ;)), 2) don't concede with fewer than three minutes to go plus stoppage time, and you wouldn't be left exposed to a dubious finish in extra time, and 3) Vieri's right foot in regulation was worse than a high schooler's, and he had two *perfect* opportunities to bury a second to clinch the win in regulation. There seems to be an unwarranted aura of superiority when this South Korea run is discussed, but truth is, Italy and Spain (the latter because they lose to Ireland if Kilbane doesn't WHIFF a penalty putback) simply wasn't good enough in this tournament to warrant feeling like it was all victimization leading to their downfall. Italy in particular didn't protect leads, so they went home. Meanwhile, in 2006, they protected their leads... and they won it all. =)
As for this match specifically...
- The early penalty was justified
- The Totti yellow was justified... and it was already the second elbow from Italy (Vieri in the 8th)
- The elbow to Coco was friendly fire
- The elbow to Del Piero should've been a yellow, just like what Totti got
- Totti absolutely flopped in extra time, and the Korean even got a touch on the ball, but Moreno didn't even have the decency to give eye contact after giving the second yellow... which is merely a travesty, not a conspiracy. I call it small-man officiating, and we see it in baseball and basketball (and gridiron football). These officials get their little egos and don't like to be questioned.
- Tommasi probably wasn't offside in the 110th, but the whistle blew before the Korean keeper tried to play the ball, so I can't confidently say Tommasi scores
Hard to hear this, but South Korea played a winning match. And Italy got severely handicapped because the official didn't respect the magnitude of a second yellow during a knockout stage game. There was no conspiracy, and most of the claims of such frankly has a slight stink of racism... as if "how dare" an Asian side think they have a shot at mighty Italy or Spain. Well, they DID have a shot. And the past 20 years have shown how much the world has caught up to Europe.
No matter, Italy and Spain got their justice in 2006 and 2010, and those teams were more deserving than the 2002 squads.
The elbow to the face of Del Piero is a straight red every time. You must know that. It was in the box and it could have been a penalty as well. Totti fell because his back leg was clipped. He did not dive. I would have said no penalty and no yellow card. The kick to Maldini's head? Inexcusable. You have to agree with that.
Two reds were not given to korea (intentional elbow to the face and maldini's head being kicked) , totti did not dive i would've given no penalty and no yellow, tommasi wasn't offside. Spain were robbed worse than us though.

I am really stunned, all my life I believed that this game had been one of the biggest scams in football history but I was wrong, Korea won the game well and the referee did not favor Korea in any play.
- The first yellow card that Toti receives is completely correct (it could even have been red)
- Perhaps Totti's expulsion was exaggerated by simulating a penalty (which it was not in any way)
- In the play that Del Piero struggles against the Korean defender and receives a elbow strike both should have received a yellow card, Del Piero pulls the Korean player's shirt roughly, he gets angry and nudges him,
- The offsides were all correct, Tommasi's last offside was quite fine but at that time it could be easily taken.
- In conclusion, Italy had many legitimate plays that they wasted and Korea knew how to take advantage.
- I withdraw my ideas about ref Moreno, he was correct in this match.

They cancelled Italy's valid goad which wasn't in this upload and Italy at least should have given two penalties which was cancelled by the referee who played as the 12th player for South Korea.
