I wasn't in the beginning and now my back and my knees are paying the price. Plus, I also have a hernia on my belly button. So wear a mask, eye protection, knee pads, gloves and a back brace whenever lifting something heavy. If you do that you'll ensure yourself a long future in this trade. Have fun!

    I am curious if having just a hvac career certificate from a local college will be enough to have a long and lucrative career? Potentially even starting my own business one day. I am 28 and deciding to go back to school for HVAC. The school I am applying to only offers a 12 month certificate program. I will be applying for an apprenticeship while completing the program. As I develop my skills I am open to relocating to other states for better pay. More so interested in commercial than residential. I know this career will be tough and come with many pros and cons however I am excited to transition into a reliable career that will allow me to become financially stable. Any advice is appreciated.

      Education is certainly like the fuel for a rocket ship 🚀. 😁 BUT! I know many guys that have started their own companies without too much fuel in the tank. However, commercial HVAC is different animal. You might want to talk to someone who does commercial work for a living.

    So I work in a Walmart warehouse making ok money in Florida. But Walmart pays for tuition for some bachelors degrees and trades, HVAC is one of them. I’m thinking of learning a trade through Walmart’s program because it will give me a skill that will give me job security. If I try for a bachelors I may not graduate until my late 30’s. But I can start doing the trades quickly. I’m thinking of HVAC but I don’t know if it will be worth it financially. I already make 23 an hour as a warehouse worker with no skills.

    • @theairconditioningguy
      @theairconditioningguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You said it yourself. 23 an hour with no skill and no job security. HVAC trade will teach you how to work on electrical, plumbing, framing. Skills that will transfer over to other trades. Yes you'll probably get paid less when you first start but depending on how fast you learn can make more money in the long run. I don't know how much HVAC techs get paid in Florida so I'm not sure how much of a pay cut you could potentially get. Or would you be working for Walmart doing HVAC work?

    • @MrQD334
      @MrQD334 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I understand how you feel. I work at in a Wal-Mart warehouse as well and making $20+. I'm going to school to become a lawyer but I'm afraid that the risk may be too much when it comes to student loans and by the time I finish college, I'm going to be in my mid to late 30s. Learning a trade such as HVAC came in mind because I can jump into the career rather quickly with little to no debt. As for starting HVAC, I would continue to work at Walmart and save while learning the trade. At the end of the day, it will be worth the financial risk. Yeah you may start at a lower pay rate, but you'll be learning a skill and skills are what's going to keep you marketable and can help you start your own business. Right now I'm using Wal-Mart for its resources and after that I'm done.
