This is absolutely amazing. My uncle who passed away in 1990 used to live in Del Rio. When I was younger, my family and I would take summer trips from Southern California to Del Rio to visit my uncle. I have a lot of great memories of Del Rio. From about the 10 minute mark to the 17 minute mark where you made the left turn, that was the area where we would stay when we would visit Del Rio. I saw the McDonald's, the Motel 6, the IHOP, the Walmart etc. It actually hasn't changed much through that area in the past 35+ years. Thank you so much for sharing this and for bringing back some great memories. You picked a good time of day to shoot your video too. That sunset is amazing.
Pretty cool, this is where I live, 1715 kingsway , I'm now retired and have lived all over the United States and traveled around the world as a Air Force veteran. And quite frankly believe it or not Del Rio Texas is pretty much perfect as far as climate is concerned and the wonderful citizens who live here. Yes we do live right on the border and the current administration is allowing the entire world to flood into our country, but our community has absolute no tolerance for it and are immediately sent on their way. Our population and citizens are some of the most family oriented and loving folks you'll ever encounter, God-fearing and patriotic, but they also believe and understand there is a right way and a wrong way, laws actually matter here. Thank you for this wonderful driving tour, much appreciated, you should do another drive around soon, tons of new construction and development currently going on and I think even you would be surprised. Stay blessed & keep safe as always.
I served in AF at Laughlin from 77 to 81 There is NOTHING there I recognize anymore. It used to be small town 25000 What is it now? 150k 250k? To me it's sickening. My ex wife lived at greenwood right across from courthouse. Was nice then.
@@donovanbryan5000I was at Laughlin from 85 to 86. I was approved for a base of preference. The Air Force sent me to Del Rio after 3 years living in Oahu, stationed at Hickman.
@rodbray6447 was mostly civilians then. What was your job? I still lived in del rio until 84 since I got married there. Spent most my time fishing at amistad. Had couple country bars there. HEB just opened. The mall still sucked. And not nearly as many illegals.
Thank you for this video. Lived in Del Rio from 86-89. My step mom got stationed at Laughlin AFB. We didn't live on base we lived in some apartments on Cantu Rd. I remember the tornado in 88 and the really bad one in 89. Softball sized hail hit the city that day. I went to North Heights Elementary. I remember the gas station called Cousins on Cantu and Veterans Blvd. I remember there was this house on Main St that would decorate their house with a lot of lights around Christmas. I remember us getting snow one year that shut down the city. I remember H.E.B. I remember going to the mall on the weekends.
Never forgotten my Del Rio, I'm right behind you This video brings beautiful memories ❤️ May 2024 was my last visit I'm going back home soon all my beautiful family and friends are in Del Rio, Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing, this town has grown tremendously. Was station at Laughlin AFB 86-89, reassigned because aircraft maintenance went civil service. Bought a beautiful black ‘87 Toyota mini-truck there when it was the rage to lower it with wide rims/tires. Would be cruising back and forth on the main drag bumpin’ the tunes with huge subwoofers.😂 Even had a local artist there airbrush ‘CRUZIN’ on my tailgate. 🤦🏽♂️Those were the days! Never forgot my civilian mentor Bobby Johnson’s wife made amazing pecan pies from the trees right in their yard. Great times water skiing on Lake Amistad, looking out for alligator gar…
Once upon a time ago i too lived in Del Rio i went to high school down there we lived at 1012 Pecan Street near the old H.E.B. and the winery. I don't recognize Del Rio .
@@richardwebb371 Well there’s a lot of new places open! Like 5 below, arby’s, a rlly cool tea shop, and McAlisters!! I forgot the rest lol 😂 but i hope you have a good experience while being here ☺️
@@nerdsquash yeah, it just sucks because I will be in a box truck and can't just drive around town in that. Kept me from seeing lots of our country. Is their uber there or something? Not sure what hotel I will be at yet..
Yes people do walk, but mostly in certain designated areas of town. Like at about 18:00 in for instance, you can see people on the left hand side walking along Kings Way (a nicer part of town). It is also very hot in DRTX as early as April. A USA Today Article out of 2019 has Del Rio listed as the 4th hottest city in the country right after Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Vegas. People live from AC to AC. But yes the people are also just as lazy and fat as the rest of America, as well as our notoriously fat neighbor, San Antonio TX.
