I was one. I found Rob Liefeld when the 1st issue of X-Force came out in a town called Conway S.C. I’ll never for how I felt standing looking at the cover. I draw my own comics. I 💚 Rob Liefeld
Infinite was to be a 24 issue limited series but a fallout over the direction of the comic between Liefeld and Kirkman caused the book to be cancelled after 4.
Liefeld is just a bad bet to the comic reader. 9 times out of 10, he comes out the gate swinging, then loses interest after 1, 2 or 3 issues, then the title dies. In the rare occasion in which he manages to finish a series or arc, it's usually a rush job that he hacks his way through for the last few issues.
Oh hells yeah I miss the Image Comics of the 90’s! All this crap they squirt out these days is just awful. I miss bad ass dudes, sexy chicks and killer artwork. Why are there so few truly awesome artists these days? About the only good modern(ish) artist I’ve found is Kenneth Rocafort, I love his work on Velocity and Hunter/Killer.
Nice to see you made it to 2013 with Liefeld's return to IMAGE COMICS. Perhaps this October you could cover SUPREME in depth and Erik Larsen's completion of Alan Moore's SUPREME storyline at around this time period. Also the return of BLOODSTRIKE, GLORY, and PROPHET. Great review.👍👍
Why do you suppose Liefeld has such trouble finishing what he starts, even to this very day? Does he run out of time, or money, or does he just like to create a bunch of things, but then quickly grows bored with them and moves on?
Yeah, I think his personality type is what's referred to as a "quick start". Also, he appears incapable of keeping a deadline without a whipcracker directly behind him.
I personally thought the 2017 Youngblood series was a very good read. It's a shame it didn't go forward with "The Blood War" that was leading up to with Youngblood, Brigade, and Bloodstrike clashing with the return of ex-Youngblood operative Psi-Fire. It dug a lot early Extreme Studios/Awesome Comics characters and concepts like Cybernet, Adam & Eve, Crime Condor, Smash and I liked the new villains like The Bloodstream and Blood Hunter.
I wasn’t a big fan of Brigade either. Nothing against it. No love or hate. It was like a McDonalds burgers; I’m not going out of my way for one because of better options, but if someone brought me one then well ok.
To some the 90s were a dark age in comics. I will always be a marvel guy, but companies like Image and Valiant were newer and racier than what the big two were making.
Some of the covers look way better than his earlier work. I thought " Wow, he must have watched a few how to draw heroic anatomy videos during his 10 years away." Then as you flipped through, I was like nahhh, he lost a lot of those dynamic action styles he had, now it feels like a series of boring poses. 😴
Without Danny Miki inking his pencils with the heavier flow they used in the 90s, it really changes the vibe. It's different, which isn't bad, but it's just not as good as the stuff he's remembered for from the height of his career. Want to see something really different? Check out the Image playlist for Liefeld's issue of Shadowhawk #0 from Image Comics X Month. Super heavy inks like Jae Lee used on WildCATS Trilogy and Jim Lee used on Deathblow.
Malin draws 100% in the vein of Liefeld & I have those early issues of his work, which are far from bad. What IS bad is the convoluted, go-nowhere writing of Liefeld, which should never be tolerated by a human on Earth again. He’s an artist & only good at drawing, not inking & certainly not writing, which he’s actively terrible at. I’d happily buy a comic he draws & id never by choice by a comic he ‘writes’ if all that hot air on a page smelling like gas is called writing. Modern Liefeld art is also dull, flat & lifeless since he tried to ‘get better technically’ like SPlatt, that isn’t his appeal. Bombast is. Enjoy your summer
I much prefer Rob inked by Danny Miki than doing it himself like he has the past 15 years. I don't have a problem with most of his writing, but I've also read pretty much all of his publications so the bad stuff fades to the background like with anyone.
Youngblood vol 6 is drawn by Jim towe one of the best new artist it's not crappy it's really good i mean you also don't like bws so I see you don't have some the best taste in art
LOL. Different strokes for different folks. We at least have this in common: Both of us like artists who draw characters that look exactly the same as each other.
Rob Liefeld inspired a lot of artists to try and make comics

That's crazy. Big fan of Rob L but he can be a jerk.
I loved Youngblood and Brigade but my favorite Extreme title was NewMen!
😆

I miss the original Image Comics so much! Hell, I miss "comic books" in general if you know what I mean. Keep the good stuff coming Crypto 🤘

Thanks for all the great breakdowns of these comics really keeps me going on creating comics!
Happy to do it!
And quickly, got shown the door again.
I have the original 1rst issue of liefields brigade. I had no idea liefield rebooted that series.
So he finally comes crawling back to image after failure to keep his IPs.

I hope so!
Where's the 2017 Youngblood series?
Is that the one I hate? Drawn by not Liefeld and Malin? If the art doesn't capture me, I don't buy it.
🇧🇷Liefeld é meu artista favorito

I'm pretty sure Rob Liefeld has A.D.D. He has a pattern going way back to 1991 when he was doing X-FORCE volume 1.
@@nicolekoch1332 Thank-you for replying, Nicole.

@@nelliewigal8875 Sorry it took so long. I can't keep up on comments consistently because the channel keeps growing and more of them keep pouring in.

Love all the Image videos, but to say that an artist's work isn't as good as Liefeld's? I wouldn't have thought that possible.
Yeah, I said it!

Excellent analogy!

Has Liefeld completed a single project? Lol, love the guy but show some follow through.
Since the 21st Century started??
Barack Obama in a comic is NOT a selling point
Still waiting for the day RL draws actual backgrounds. Enough with the smoke/rocks as substitutes with what he can't/won't draw...
Hey, Jose, I have it on good authority that backgrounds are highly overrated. Just forget about Liefeld's background and focus on his future, baby!
