We beat the game 100% now. Actually, going to go back and redo the game movie with all the important side missions and true ending, because they're really important to the story, moreso that 99% of other games we've played

That will allow you to access the area to fight Erlang and the Four Heavenly Kings You can do these at any point in the game before the final boss, so don't worry about missing anything. My take of this is when the opening scene battle happened, before killing WuKong, Erlang preserved WuKong's memory. When the Destined One collected WuKong's remains and defeated Erlang in hidden boss battle, Erlang consider Destined One worthy and gave him WuKong's memory. So WuKong can be considered as resurrected as its body and memory are restored. It's no wonder why wukong doesn't want to be associated with the heavens But I guess that's why wukong is such a fan favorite. This ending actually makes more sense out of the bad ending. So basically the heaven is so fuck up, and the first fight between Wukong and Erlang is just an act, Erlang and Wukong want to destroy Wukong's body because his original body can't escape the headband thing (which control him). So the bad ending happens when the nameless monkey miss some important hints on his journey, which lead to him becomes new Wukong and the old monkey put the headband on him, creating a perfect loop where new monkeys will try to "save" Wukong but get the headband again, until the true ending happens when a monkey found out the truth and gain Wukong memory (from Erlang third eye). So in the true ending we become new Wukong and refuse the headband. However what happens after that is still confusing.
