- After exploring a forgotten car & truck honey hole we pull the Volkswagen Bug from it's grave . HUCK continues to provide us with surprises ! No first start or will it run on this one!

When my dad was in high school 71-75 he was able to have an engine out of one of these in 30 mins with handtools and Jack stands, I wish things were still that easy

HAHA ! i was NOT expecting that ! Worse is I added 2 quarts of oil when I got it home . The dipstick was in it , just buried ....

Definitely had a "What the Huck!?" moment when you popped that drain plug off and it looked like a reenactment of Operation Chastise.
The tapping of the chisel to get the tin screw out and Im like why is it making that sound, lol, thats because its rust soup. Sorry, my brain is 53 years old with rust as well

@@5150mxVW If I manage to find one, it's usually missing almost all of the 1 year only parts. But I rarely find anything anywhere near me older than '68. Once my truck is done (or sold) I think the next one will be a Blue 67. Unless I find a cheap Lotus Esprit. lol

The most beloved car in my childhood was my Dad's forest green 67 bug. It was named Herbie after the Love Bug. I hope to see that one saved. I still like the 67s best. 12 volts, chrome tubular bumpers.

If I got one like that I'd mix up some diesel and marvel mystery oil and fill that engine up and let it set a week.
water rotted away the oil sump ...case is shot , but i will add some diesel to the F100 I just brought home

Little known trivia fact:
I am 73 yrs. old....my first NEW car was a '67 bug.
$1,783 out the door, with an AM radio, whitewalls, and a shoulder harness. Put 186,000 miles on it in 1 1/2 yrs.
When I got rid of it, I rolled back the speedo with a Black & Decker drill in 2 days. By that time, it had Porsche chrome wheels, Michelin tires and a header.
Still miss it to this day. It was black with red interior, and I painted the wheel wells red to match the inside.

Going to loop the engine piss sound so it repeats....its kinda relaxing. and omg the slip possabilities of that thing turning over or running. Just think of that water out the oil drain as YOUR ENGINE is really clean

Never seen the fresh air tubes setup on the 67 bug. Now I know why vw put the small grills on the fenders. 👍

With all that water in there I'm surprised that case has a bottom! Suppose some of it got in during washing?

Granted, they were blue when I got them. That poor engine is nothing more than a pockey-huck now!

My that is a lot of H20... Not normally a fan of the late model Bugs, but that apple green one with the narrow whitewalls at the show looked exceptionally nice. All our local VW shows are still cancelled for now...

Okay, in a sump has to be water. But not in an oil sump.
Anyway: Without a running engine it's simply another car that has to be pushed around!!! ;-) 😁
I would love to see that engine be disassembled and overlooked by Mustie1 or at least VWnut. Maybe it is still safeable (floating/cleaning the engines crankcase with Diesel/kerosene etc.p.p.)?

Post Scriptum: I wrote a second (and shorter) comment about my guessing why there was water in the engine. By mistake it wasn't combined with my "main comment". Now it's unfortunately too late for a change = to combine/connect the 2 comments. Because if one changes a comment after earning/receiving a heart, the heart will disappear. And I could not and definitely would not want to live without a heart. Way too many people have become heartless already. ;-)
Package tray delete model. Used to be very rare but becoming increasingly common. Enjoy
if you wanna tell apart dirt from shavings when opening up the engine, try using a magnet near it perhaps

The water in the crankcase is usually caused by years of condensation buildup. Water being heavier than oil it collects in the sump. Sadly, water and magnesium don’t play well together and just rots the inside of the engine. One of the first checks anyone should do when buying a used engine in or out of the car is to drain the oil and look for sump rot.

Uuuuh, maybe this is the very first prototype of a watercooled VW boxer engine and worth a ton of money? You will be even more famous than already because you found it! ;-)
2) If not there still is the possibility that it is the very first prototype of a water injection engine (additionally to gas/fuel). ;-)
