The “I have one but it’s ugly” is a struggle! 😂😂😂
Thats when you diy stuff onto it ;)
@@lindyloohoo Exactly, and it can be so fun! My new boring work shoes came with laces way too short and it pinched my feet, so I got longer ones for $1.29, threaded pony beads onto them for extra flavor and fun, and saved the old laces for future projects. Another old pair of shoes were all ripped, so I used iron on patches shaped like flowers to fix them and everyone asked where I bought them because they assumed they came that way! Being creative with your things makes a world of difference.
I’d suggest selling it off or swapping
@@miticaBEP07 If everybody sells off, swaps or donos their unattractive, out-of-season, don't-care-for-anymore consumer goods, we hit market saturation with everybody trying to get rid of the same thing. Literally use the shit you have. It's not hard. You don't need to live surrounded with aesthetic.
I try not to buy something unless it’s something I love and know I would love even after a while and it’s really worn out and hard to part with.
As an environmental scientist, your videos are truly so impactful and appreciated. So many environmental issues come down to overconsumption and it’s so rare to find people on social media questioning why we are so inclined to buy so much! Thank you for doing what you do 🌍
Sounds like you've got a cool job!
Kind of unrelated to the video, but can I ask what you do for a job?😅 I’m in school for environmental science right now and I would love to hear what different people do with that degree or area of study!
It's so sad that this is not more of a no-brainer for people.
@@pizzaface898 I work on modeling contamination in surface and groundwater in urban settings, and how climate change is impacting water resources
@@pizzaface898 I studied environmental policy and most of what I do is examine current environmental laws or environmental problems (air pollution, contaminated drinking water, etc) and propose solutions to them with my team by doing field work and research on how they can help communities! Since you're still in school, I recommend internships with your state's department of environmental protection and talking to your professors about their first jobs with that degree.
The pen aisle "listen to me it's tempting" is so real. That and journals.
yesss, u have banned myself from buying notebooks and journals except if it's needed for school. I have wayyy too many at home
I’ve been doing so good with that, my notebooks are getting every last inch used before I get a new one
And the worst part for me is I don’t want to use the notebooks because they are so cute
I BUY SO MANY NOTEBOOKS AND PENS
WHY are pens so alluring?!? Like, I don't even write everyday 😂
The unbrush is a life saver for anyone with curly or textured hair it’s actually worth it
Right, the Unbrush is the only brush I can get my daughter's hair done without a fight. Other than that, I agree with everything else
Just saved one to my wish list and soon my cart after watch this video and reading this comment 😂😂
not gonna buy a new weekender bag because the one I made in sewing class in grade 7 is still perfect and ALWAYS gets compliments
thats so cool!
that's so cool ! +we have the same name
I also made a bag like that in 7th grade, still have it too! And in my 7th grade woodshop I made my own chess board and my own stool that folds! Done need to buy cheap plastic ones of those when I have good handmade ones😊
The only bag I have is a small duffle that says drug money 😂 still ain’t gonna buy the new bag though
It's getting sad and comical how student projects from middle school to college are gorgeous, well constructed pieces, and then you walk into a store and find a pile of polyester shirts with loose threads labeled "one size fits all". The talent and ability is there, but monkey brain greed means we'd rather sit on a huge pile of trash than a good set of clothes that will last us for years.
“Reminder to not fall for it” is so accurate 💚
The unbrush really helped me. My hair is very tangled after a shower to the point I’d cry. I can’t imagine not having this brush now, it seriously does not hurt.
People gonna make fun of me, but I got the knockoff one, I got it from temu for like a buck, and tbh it's awesome. It's actually not cheaply made, I use it on my hair wet or dry.
we should all be a little more careful
about tipping the lines & scales. some of these “popular” items are popular for a reason! they work great & people love them! we all each have the same 24HRs, at the end of the day if what we want to spend our hard earned money on is a little treat for us that makes life a little better or more convenient, power to us. i think we ALL need a step back from the phones & trying to be influenced. no one has the answers. no one has it figured out. just retreat & focus on your mind & home. all watching & obeying others does is feed our internal senses of shame.
well, im glad you have a brush that works for you
im personally not gonna get one because my brush is fine
She has naturally straight hair so she doesn’t need the unbrush because her brush works fine….that was the point lol if you’re brush doesn’t work for you then by all means use one that does! Lol her point was for people who don’t NEED the unbrush and are just buying it because it’s popular while they have a perfectly good working brush at home already lol
I mean, if you got it from Temu and it was a buck for you, it WAS cheaply made. By slave labor. @mizfit4479
The Unbrush has actually been revolutionary for my afro hair.
As a fellow curly-haired girlie (except I have white lady hair), how does it compare to the Denman brush, if you don’t mind my asking?😊
I'm obsessed with this whole vibe. I have been so materialistic my whole life and Idk if it was watching your videos or what but I just woke up one day and decided I was done being that way. If I can't thrift it, I don't need it. Lol
Wonderful❤ Im trying my best to become less materialistic and she is a huge help
i love thrifting
i havent needed to buy any shit from stores ever, since 2019 oh the treasures ive found r untradeable💫✨🍃
thrifting addiction is a whole other issue for me now though lol :/
Hell yes! Welcome to the world of saving money
Keeping up with the Joneses is such a real thing with social media
I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE AND NEED THESE VIDEOS. You are doing the world a service. Thank you❤
as someone who does art as a hobby, the bit about the pens is SO real :')
The voice of reason❤
Was going to buy a new glass pitcher for my cold brew, but I am gonna thrift it this weekend!
Yess Thrifting s ok glassware is so much better!
At this rate thrifting prices are worse lmao
Man that's sad. @@mel_cryb4by

I’m with you on everything else but the unbrush is worth it for me. With my texture and my daughter’s texture it has made wash day soo much easier.
Yeah it’s like maybe the unbrush wasn’t made for her 😮
Exactly, came to the comment section for this very purpose. The unbrush is targeted to help a very specific set of ppl consistently dealing with issues the vast majority of players in the hair industry have overlooked!
Might need to cop. Neglected my 4c hair and now it's broken every comb and brush I've used. ( To be fair I was getting them cheap)
You are so true about the not buying organizational stuff until you know you will actually use it 😭 ive bought two planners in my life and both of them have like one week filled out and then i never used them ever again
Just in case you want to keep those things forever you can always get a clear paper protector and put the calendar sheet in their individually if they aren't marked
I’m not going to lie. I got the unbrush for my daughter and it has drastically helped with detangling her hair and minimized the crying. Definitely agree, if you have something that works already, use it.
fr i dont know why everyone is so skeptical 😭😭
Same here. That brush has worked wonders for my hair and my daughter hair. I can’t figure out the science behind the design lol but it sure works wonders. So happy I ordered it.
Yes I found the unbrush work wonders for my curls it’s not as painful and the brush stays put❤
I have one too because I have curly hair and have struggles maintaining it, the hairbrush helps so much for brushing wet hair I agree with you
Your videos inspired me to makeover my room completely from garage sales and thrift stores. It turned out so nice, I love it🤗
You should make a video! ❤ I bet it's awesome!!
Awe, love it❤
Thank you !!!!!! Overconsumption is out of control!!! Thrift stores or FB Marketplace is where I shop 99% of the time for most things. Example People who have 20 Starbucks or Dunkin tumblers 🤬
Okay but seriously the unbrush has saved me sooooo much time and effort, very worth it in my opinion
The unbrushed is really really good for people who have really really strong head /scalp sensitivity. It’s the only thing that’s actually made my hair, brushing routine tolerable.
The Wet Brush is the OG and it's excellent
@@lauren1225 Unfortunately, it didn't work well for me, I think it's because the un brushed has a wider surface area (I could be wrong). But I'm glad it helped you out! :)
I've seen a few people test the unbrush vs regular brushes, it's entirely based on the bristle angle, hold your brush so all the bristles are level and it will give the same affect without buying something new
I have a Mason Pearson brush
Agree. My daughters and I all have very tender scalps and thick hair. We love the unbrush, wish it had been invented sooner.
I think of your videos when I’m shopping and it seriously helps! I’ve been decluttering for years and so much of the it is not buying impulse buys!
This right here!! I'll be in the store and see a canteen or white board or bag or hair gadget and marketers KNOW. They KNOW what they are doing! I think of these videos to mentally slap myself and keep walking.
The unbrush is the only brush that has not made my niece cry. She has super thick, long, straight hair that tends to tangle easily. Her scalp is so tender. When she was 6, she started asking to brush her own hair because brushing her hair was such a painful experience. I'm glad we bought her an unbrush. But I agree with everything else. I want to buy more and more pens.
"Reminder not to fall for it." I will use this saying throughout my daily life.
You’re my favorite deinfluencer ngl
Deinfluencer is such an interesting word. 😂
Best influencer
I had like hundreds of gift bags saved from my wedding and various celebrations over the years. My basement flooded and I lost most of them. There were like a dozen different sizes in all occasions. I miss them so much.
Well, clearly, they needed to be displayed on the mantle. Just ribbing. I am sorry you lost all those wedding mementos.
As always: needed this reminder! Thank you 😊
I actually got one of those white board calendars at 5 below for $5 and it helps me out a lot! Def wouldn’t pay the target price for it but it’s still nice to have for $5
This! There's no way I would be motivated enough to just use regular yellow sticky notes. I've tried using sticky notes on the wall for reminders or affirmations and I completely ignored them and thought they through off the room aesthetic.
The whiteboard calendar is better than all of the post-it waste but otherwise yes.
It's a waste if she doesn't use it... now you have paper (that you already use) and a thing you don't use. Use what you already have is the most important.
I use my whiteboard calendar faithfully! I can see it being a waste if you’re not actually using it though.
@@srose1088Yeah but as other people have pointed out in the regular comment section they are cheaper monthly or weekly whiteboard calendars that you can easily get at Dollar Tree or if that's not accessible you can find another place that sells it for cheap
She said that she won’t buy the whiteboard or other organization things, before knowing she will actually use it, so she’s trying with something less desirable. It’s really gonna help me, I need those whiteboards, but they’re expensive here in Brazil, so I’ll try with post-its first, to see if I’ll actually use the whiteboard
THANK YOU. You hit so many of my struggle areas. ESPECIALLY the white board calendar.
Same here! There's so many things I get from charity shops and it's fun ♡
As someone with ADHD, I do spend my money in buying new organisational tools, because I know that it makes my life so much easier. As for the hairbrush, I have seen in the comments how it helps people with curly hair.
In conclusion, I don't think buying something new that you know you need and will help you is necessarily a bad thing. The probrem is when companies trick us into thinking we actually need it when it's just a trend we'll forget about. What helps me decide on buying something is to wait for some time to see if I can live my day to day without it (as you mentioned in the video). Also, I try to avoid going into shops or looking at 'must-have' videos. This way, everything I think of buying is initially me just finding a solution to a problem I already have, not a problem that wasn't really a problem untill a company told me it was. Sometimes sustainability not so much about the products you buy, but more about your decisions and mindset when it comes to buying them.
Still, I love your videos!!!!! It feels so refreshing to see so many people care about the environment. We need more influences like you, who actually influence!!!!!
Yeah I don't think this content is for me. I don't have an overconsumption problem personally. The only time I really buy things I end up not using much is trying new art supplies, and as an artist that's just how it goes.
My mother raised me to never make many purchases as once. I always window shop and then come back for something after sitting on it for a while unless I'm POSITIVE I want it.
Went shopping with my friend recently. I need new clothes because I'm a young adult who has a controlling mother and my wardrobe is entirely bought FOR me or with my mum and she had to approve of everything. Bought a necklace and some earrings that I LOVED immediately, and 3 shirts that were cheap. Held off on other tops, jackets, overshirts, maxi skirts and jeans. Decided I'll make the skirts and some tops, jeans and overshirts/jackets, I'll get another time.
Also yes I also have ADHD and more organizational tools is a NEED. Not a want. A need. They're basically an accessibility tool for us. If buying more baskets help me do my laundry then so be it.
Thank you, ps the unbrush is awesome for curly hair
@@LangkeeLongkeedefinitely, I think it's more about finding balance. It's okay to buy something cute just for the sake of it, but it's hard to not get carried away and just buy so many unnecessary things out of impulse. I think my mum has also definitely shown me to not overconsume, but sometimes I just want to make a gift for myself :)
@@ruthddl4112 no I get it. I'm always down for a little treat but for me getting a gift for myself is usually food or something that I know I like. I'm also autistic, so while novelty is cool, so is my go to same old same olds so a treat for me is specific brands of pens or some other replinishable art supply. I sketch in pen a lot so they will be used.
I absolutely love your videos. Seriously. And you’re right, the pens is so harrrrd!
I love this! It’s so true and more people need to follow this.
Personally I think something being pretty is enough reason to buy it. But yes, buy glass not acrylic, wood not plastic, leather not polyester
I think her message is against impulsive purchases and overconsumption. So many people just buy things not because they need it, or want it, but because an influencer said it was cool or because it’s trendy. If you buy something pretty that you know you will enjoy for years, I don’t think it’s an issue.
I think it can be hard to strike the right balance in messaging between discouraging overconsumption (especially if that's what you're assuming most of your audience is used to) and not demonizing all purchases. Her videos don't always strike the perfect balance, but I think it's understandable given the demographic she's targeting
Personally, I was most impacted by one of her other videos discouraged spending money on home furnishings. The comments pointed out that while you shouldn't be buying new furnishing every month, there's also no need to live in a sterile enviornment. That actually inspired to go out and buy frames so I could hang up my art -- something I'd been putting off
I definitely think these videos are a case of "take what works and leave what doesn't." Sometimes they can even paradoxically inspire you to buy something
@@mrggy i think so too, she has very cute things, thrifted things. Beauty is a human need. But Ive seen people calling themselves thrifty and frugal, but theyre just dirty or hoarders. So thats important to adress
I live in an environment that wood and cardboard get moho every 5 days and the humidity is high, so I yty to avoid it; glass and ceramic is not an option for my house because I have pets and clumsy people that always broke those things. Also, plastics and acrylics prevent attracting the second most venomous spider of the world that happens to live in my region plus scorpions here. So, for me, those are the safest choises that I can make for ME (sadly). I'm a very conscious buyer tho, because I rarely buy something unless I need something functional😊
You’re literally a beacon of hope 🙌
YES. This is so important to regularly remind myself when it comes to products I am bombarded with in the stores and it would replace something I use often of find extremely useful. Shake the mentality of “there’s something better out there” if what you have is working for you. Otherwise it’ll bleed into other areas of your life like relationships, work, etc. and you will always feel truly unfulfilled.
You go, Girl! I am behind you 💯. This over consumption is ridiculous and getting way out of hand. I am buried in stuff and can’t bring myself to get rid of it because it feels wasteful, which then only leads to an overwhelming sensation every time I look at the crap. I hate it. Minimal and saving money in these difficult times is the way to go.
I love your channel. I'm always in need of these good reminders and ideas! 💙✌️🗽
I'm really trying to stop. I have so many clothes I never wear. I look at them and think I mine as well have set that money on fire.

Those sharpie pens always get me. I did just buy a new pack for work lol.
Amazon sells pen refills that are higher quality and a lot less money
Okay but I get such joy out of writing with Sharpie S gels it’s worth it for me. Sometimes it’s the little things
@@BeatlesMusicRockYeah I definitely think it depends if you go through them so much or if you know that you're going to use them a lot then it's fine.
My cheap azz get the dollar tree ones that look like the sharpie pens... they don't bleed thru. They write well, and I got 4 for 1.25 lol. I liked them cause I have vision problems, and I can see the ink easily and plus the price
I’m with you on all of it (except the pens, my simple joy is a pretty pen and I refuse to give that up)
Can relate, nothing better than a fresh pack of G2’s
Amen sister! You broke out of the consumer matrix! Enjoy your life.
This mindset has been so helpful for me!
you are so amazing and helpful
How I wish more people followed you!
These videos remind me that I can consume if I prove to myself that I will use it and it will last. Trends fade but long lasting quality products don’t!
I just subscribed to this breath of fresh air! I bet she even touches grass!! Love her
everything except those sharpie pens are my tried and true for the last few years
I love sharpie pens! But I felt guilty throwing them away, especially after I bought a 2 pack and they were metal instead of plastic.
So I went on Amazon and ordered generic ink refills for less than 50c a pen and I actually think the refills write better. The sharpie ink isn't special, just make sure to get the tip you like.
So refreshing to see someone real🤍

You just popped up on my feed for the first time & I must say I like your attitude! 👏🏻 looking forward to seeing more! 🩷
When I became a mom of 2 I quickly realized how easily influenced I was to buy what others had for my kids and my self. It’s been a year since I’ve cut back on overconsumption and have been thrifting just about anything I can and reusing what we have. It brings me so much joy to give something a new home then donate or give away when we’re done. I proudly thrifted my son’s whole wardrobe for his kinder year this fall for less than $75! Plus have started thrifting gifts for Xmas too.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for saying this.❤ You earned my follow.

Okay but the unbrush was a game changer for my daughter’s curly curly hair. Best brush I’ve ever had for her !
I collect to many things without making sure I actually need it. Sometimes a method I have tried with organizing isn’t working then I’ll budge..but I love this! Thank you ❤
I live you for this!!!! I needed to change my perspective on this!!
The unbrush brush is genuinely magical though, I have adhd and I struggle with consistently brushing my hair, so even if I haven’t brushed it in 2 days, the unbrush can untangle it all in like 5 minutes
This has been your public service announcement you needed to hear for a long time now. Love this, so true
I love this!! Thank you for sharing!
This is what made me subscribe. These videos right heeeeere 💯💯 we need so much more of this!!
Yessss such good reminders. Recently I got sick of spending money on plastic pens that are destined for landfill, I used up all the ones I had and then switched out for fountain pens. I have the cheapo shark pens (£8 for a pack of six) and I bought a couple of different colours of nice bottled ink (~£30 but I was splurging, I could have spent more like £10), and I don't expect to need to buy anymore pens/ink/similar for several years. Feels good to know that I have all my pen needs covered for the foreseeable, and literally nothing will go in the bin.
The sticky note idea is actually so smart

I love this and it’s so true!!!! Yes precisely how I think too.
you're so real for this
Thank you so much for this reminder, I’m trying to be more cautious, I really have to try harder and at least I see that, thank you again
Yess!!! This is why I learned how to add custom touches to things I already own to update them w my current style bc most things last so long but my taste changes quickly
I love this honestly. These are conversations I have with myself often. I buy if there is a need and that’s really it.
This is an awesome idea for content, creators! I hope these type of videos are posted more by people to inspire others to save
I have a brush similar to that. Maybe it's because I have long curly hair, but having those thick bristles so separated is a game changer for me. All this to say, "Know yourself, and sometimes you actually need something. Ask yourself do I need it or do I want it? Only you can know that."
I'm playing this daily! Thanks!
The UnBrush is a requirement for this curly hair. Best brush I’ve ever used for naturally curly hair.
