Great video! I always find myself getting sucked into your channel, despite not having previous interest in table top gaming (or even gaming in general) I can't resist rewatching everything! I love the interesting perception you take on everything and all the detail you add to your videos. You're one of a kind! Please keep uploading! It makes my night whenever you post a new video!
Hi Almacov so you probably dont check these comments much anymore BUT if you are still into pen and paper games it would be amazing to go into more detail about the maps you have 😁 i enjoyed the imagination you show. Have a great day, month, year or whatever.
Hey Alex, I'm really impressed by your videos. They make me feel like I'm looking through someone's things that they've set aside in a box. I think there's also a dose of childhood nostalgia hearkening to the intimate, burnished ephemera lovingly arranged in I Spy books: the way you do those super closeups, sometimes coming into focus, with kind of moody lighting. The way the shambolic flow works with your unique visual style reminds me of Wong Kar-Wai, specifically Fallen Angels, which I recommend. So I was wondering: what are your inspirations, aside from table-top games? Also, I can't help but wonder, what do you do? Or what do you study?
I'm sorry for taking so long to get back to this. I managed to see Fallen Angels fairly soon after you recommended it, and it is a strange and stunning film. Thank you for the recommendation - the comparison is flattering. I've sort of briefly run through responses to your questions in a video I just uploaded. They were very open questions, and could have spawned pretty lengthy rambles - I apologize if I didn't answer them as completely as you might have hoped. I mention Tarkovsky in my response, but if I were to narrow to something even more specific, The Mirror is a film I love. His stuff requires a lot of patience, and explicit answers to all the questions it raises are (wonderfully, in my opinion) absent. They're the sort of stories where the resolution is found afterwards, in your head, rather than on the screen. Probably off-putting to a lot of people, but the kind of thing I like.
Some of the filming for my video on ephemera had actually all ready happened when you made this comment, which had me giddy with your mentioning the word. I hope you enjoy Fallen Leaves.
Invisible ink! Nice thinking outside the box, that's a real sign of a good DM. Great video too. Im really enjoying how your videos focus on rpg related items/accessories/supplies. Keep this up.
Aha, the TH-cam RPG Brigade's resident antiquarian! Thanks for dropping by. Yeah, I have no idea what it's actually worth, but I'm pretty fond of it. That bed loft idea does sound like a sweet play surface. Unfortunately, I don't imagine I'll have that amount of space any time soon. I envy your gaming area, sir. =)
I found mine on craigslist. If you keep your eye open games tables come up every so often. Most are similar in function, if not specific form. I'll admit though, I haven't seen any others with the same symmetrical grain pattern and colouration on the surface - it was kind of irresistible.
Thank you. The idea that I can make someone's night is the reason I'm looking at uploading more often. It's tricky balancing frequency and quality... I'm not sure I would have uploaded this video if I hadn't felt it best to make things more regular. I'll be honest, I'm not entirely happy with this one. This should be at the lower end of the quality I put out though, even if I keep things frequent. I'm on my way to finding a happy medium, in any case. It's a process...
Cool stuff! Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it for most d20-related purposes. It's not terribly expensive either, and my gaming groups have often been able to get away with using the other side of a sheet in conditions where we can still see the grid lines through the paper. (Which makes a pad last longer. If one tends to whip up spur-of-the-moment incidental maps, it's good to be able to cut down a bit on waste.)
I've thought about it. One issue is that my gaming group has a tendency to lean towards having really long sessions. 8 hours is not uncommon. My camera also has some sort of cap on how long it will record in one continuous shot (though I don't remember off hand what it is). I could mock up a "solo campaign", but it really wouldn't capture the magic. For that matter, I'm not sure a "Let's Play" would be likely to under any circumstance. I might at some point do recap vids, I suppose.
Have you ever thought about doing ASMR? You have one of those voices. Edit: Reading the comments, apparently everyone and their pet troll has already suggested this. Doh!
I've been made aware. I'm glad people are able to get a little something extra out of them, but I'm not going to start deliberately triggering, tagging the videos as "ASMR", or making this an ASMR centric channel. Content comes first, side effects (if present) emerge naturally. This is probably as close as I'm going to come to making a "whisperer" video, unless its appropriate to the content. Or, I suppose, if something attacks my throat again.
The quality looks great! Have you considered offering some sort of playthrough or 'Let's Play' of a campaign? Even a solo campaign? I've spent years and years in the gaming community hearing about Pen and Paper RPGs, but I've never found a group of people with the patience necessary, and have thus never had the opportunity to even see one played. I hear epic tales of creative and imaginative solutions for various situations and would love to see the logistics behind them. Thanks for the video!
I am in love with your videos! I won't lie, I came across your channel because of an asmr channel, but now I really want to learn more about RPG! Would you consider doing your own version of DnD 101? I'll be honest, every time I try to understand what is going on or what books to buy, iit just goes over my. :P
It's a victorian era table no doubt! I doubt the wheels are orignal which will bring down it's value as an antique. Need to get yourself a King Size wooden bed loft and grid it out! Worked for me!
WOW I recently started using the exact same grid paper for my Pathfinder group. O_O I know that's not terribly uncommon, but it's literally the EXACT same - I also bought it from staples and it has the two double holes at the top. Crazy coincidence.
popping back in just to state we need some more vids dog
The algorithm is doing something
still love this video

stumbled upon one of your videos on soothtube. I found them charismatic and magnetic. You are an unique fellow. Please keep doing what you do.
don't know if your aware but your videos have many triggers for "ASMR" this is a good thing.
Wow, what a gorgeous table. Regardless of age, you've got quite a work of art there, though it's fun to see your other improvisations as well

Omg Fallen Angels is one of my favorite films of all time
You're truly committed to your craft, Barnz.
Let the world take note.
Dioramas may take a lot of space, but they can indeed look awesome.

Excellent work! I've been GM/DM'ing AD&D and Rifts off and on since 1993. You have great attention to detail :)

Mr. MePhisto's Geek Manifesto you're absolutely right in fact when I stumbled onto this channel I thought it was an asmr channel
I THINK YOU ARE AN AMAZING VIDEOMAKER

*my head! Sorry, my last comment got cut off! Anyways, great videos! You definitely got me interested in pen and paper role playing. :)
Half joking! But seriously I love the full diorama style!
