As a computer scientist, I think it's a common trope to "blame the algorithm". Sure, the algorithm is shit and biased. But it didn't write itself. Please, let's take this a step further and blame the developers of the algorithm. People have been complaining about "the algorithm" for years and years, and it really seems to only be getting more and more bigoted, rather than solving the issues. So let's stop pretending this is just a machine making mistakes. There are humans behind this machine and they are responsible for those mistakes and we need to hold them accountable.

My friend works in Computer science. She did her thesis on algorithm's and its the codders and developers who write it, who's bias is built in. It's wild.

I sadly didn't realize it until last year, but everything Jade said is true. I was obsessed with most of the white lesbian youtubers y'all are probably thinking about until I rediscovered Jade and noticed that she ACTUALLY had not only good content, but ACTUAL CONTENT. Most of them will upload once a month(if that) and when they do, it's just their 20th video on skincare or working out. Black youtubers really have to expose themselves just to get half as much attention.

I’ve been speaking up about this for YEARS & that’s why my channel is pretty much shadow banned at this point & why I only make $100 a month from YT. I remember noticing this back in 2015/2016 when Hart, Stevie, Arielle & I were all on the same campaign & at the time Hart & I’s numbers were double there’s, but Arielle was offered $8k, Stevie $10k, Hart $1500 & I was offered $2500...it’s been a problem with no justification on why. Instead of that hostile question: I would instead ask - why do some white people only ever seem to take initiative to get to know other white people? Is it an honest assesment to say that every white person doesn't have access to diverse communities? If you live in a medium-to-large city or town, why would everyone you've ever befriended be of one specific race? It's a sign of a well-adjusted person to be able to develop close friendships with people from various different backgrounds and racial groups. It is, in the same vein, a sign that someone has some inner work to do if the only people they ever take initiative to hang out with or get to know are the same race or demographic as themselves. What does it say about a person that they've only ever been drawn to people who's experiences and backgrounds they identify with? What does it say about a person that they subconsciously or conscniously dismisses or overlooks anyone who isn't the same race as themselves? It's not common for PoC people to not know any white people, but it does seem more common and normalised for white people to never have had close relationships to PoC people - why is that? Just food for thought

Not a lesbian. But as a black trans guy, I used to think I was just a stud lesbian and therefore became really involved in lesbian TH-cam. That said, Jade you are speaking so much truth. The problem exists on trans TH-cam as well. I only know about a couple black trans guys on here. And Kat Blaque is the only prominent black trans woman that I know of. Although, to be fair, trans TH-camrs are slightly better about being aware of the divide and even addressing it. Still though, it's a problem for the L's, B's, G's, T's, and Q's and I hate it.
Edit: Just realized this could come off as me steering the convo away from Jade's concerns by mentioning my observations. Not trying to step on any toes here. Solidarity, Jade ✊🏾

For me the algorithm has shown white people for almost everything. Like even though i follow a bunch of black women who do personal finance stuff, TH-cam recommends the financial diet or whatever. It seems to happen for most topics, if for no other reason than the most popular channels in most categories are likely made by white people. (Most popular, not best.) TH-cam CAN'T let the algorithm bury videos by BIPOC creators and i think they finally realized that because 1) they're being sued and 2) the algorithm has obviously been changed in the past couple weeks

I am excited to see what the lesbian poc youtube content is like as I shamefully have never searched it out before and TH-cam shamefully doesn't simply include it in the general searches for lesbians that I've done. I love all different poc and am excited to share that love with them now that I've come to this realization of what I've been missing out on! This was super informative and important content to get out there.

As a white person, the call out on performative activism was much needed. Thank you for sharing your thoughts because so many people need to hear them.
I also agree that some of the white lesbian creators are below average but still get the top views. It's not fair, and a lot of these lesbians should talk about it--but won't.
I've personally only seen one white lesbian really make a video on the topic of Black Lives Matter and the situation with the police from the pool of popular white lesbian creators, and it's so disheartening to see that a lot of other creators are so radio silent. A lot of them are gonna take a little break from social media then pop back on when it seems like people are posting about BLM and protests less. I hope they get called tf out for it because it's blatant image preservation. They don't want to get "political" (even tho human rights ≠ politics) but don't want to be called out for not saying anything either, so they just go silent and don't do anything of substance to help despite their platforms. We can not, at the end of the day, know what they do interpersonally, but it says something--loudly--that they won't speak about these issues to their 500k or whatever followers.
Great content as always, Jade. Thank you for telling us your opinions on the matter. I hope they're heard and some change happens within the white lesbians on this website. Lesbians should lift each other up--not let a divide sit and watch as their fellow lesbians are treated as lesser because they're black.

Encourage people to buy from them! What about a favorite black musician? Encourage people to buy their music! There’s a lot you can do that doesn’t seem like charity. You’re spot on I just want to clarify one thing. Arielle wasn’t cancelled for wearing a maga hat (it actually said “make America gay again”). She was “cancelled” for choosing to surround herself with biphobes and being transphobic. She put out a video a long time ago it showed how hideously biphobic her friends were. Like it was to the point where I was like “how can you tolerate these people?”. Then there was the transphobia... I’m not referencing her saying that she wouldn’t be comfortable dating a trans woman because that is 100% valid. I’m talking about her calling it the “LGB community” and her constant “trans cringe videos”. And honestly the whole, “I abandoned the left cuz people were mean to me” thing she’s on is silly. Being LGBT doesn’t mean you have to be liberal don’t get me wrong. It’s just the reactionary nature of it is eye-roll inducing. So yeah definitely not happy with the way she represents the LGBT community but if she helped you get to where you are I’m you met her.

🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 pushing the limits and addressing what needs to be addressed!! What a QUEEN! 👑 People whom are white, before you comment with anger because you're being called out for your privilege. Stop. And think. Accept the fact that you are privileged. Accept the fact that you're so ultimately protected by your appearance and the skin suit you were given when you were born. It only happened by chance that your particular soul chose the body that it's in currently. You lucked out by being white and being born into a culture and system that was designed and created for you to ultimately benefit from the system and off of the backs of your black and brown peers. You subconsciously put yourself on a pedestal and then look down upon us and view you "including" us in your activities as charity. You highlight the "good thing" that you're doing so you can receive praise. But you get upset when those marginalized folks use their OWN voice and platform to speak out on issues that don't even truly affect you. If yall don't want to hear people talking about traumatic events in the world, SUPPORT US AND PUT IN THE WORK TO BE THE CHANGE. DON'T DO IT FOR CLOUT. EMBODY THE CHANGE. ❤ THANK YOU WHITE FOLK 💗

Tbh, I didn't start youtube for years because I didn't think I could. It wasn't until I found you, Ari, and Amber that it even dawned on me that people would care to watch my content. When I finally started making videos the divide was very apparent. The white lesbian youtubers that started around the same time I did made more money than I did even though they didn't do much other than post infrequent, unedited videos of themselves hanging out at their houses. These people are my colleagues and I am happy for them, but it didn't take very long for me to realize what was going on. When I saw it, I started working harder. I wrote concepts for short films and reached out to see if some willys in my sub bracket were interested in collabing. Their responses to my inquiries consistently suggested that they were doing me a favor even though I had more sub/views than they did and I was doing all of the creative work. It was really discouraging, and I stopped making videos partly because I was being wedged out of conversations I started. I appreciate you for speaking out on this. Maybe I can take a seat at this table after all.

I know others have already said this, but post it! It’s a conversation that needs to be had and it’s unfortunate that yet again black women are doing the labor white women should be doing. White women should be the ones calling each other out and holding each other accountable but they don’t. White lesbian TH-camrs have the energy to talk about their veganism ad nauseam but don’t show up with the same energy when it’s time to talk about and uplift their fellow black creators. Also like no offense but their content sucks. I’m tired of seeing the Cammie Scotts of the world post videos about the struggles of femme lesbians. Literally shut up. Love you Jade. As someone who grew up in this youtube era, in a time where I was figuring out my sexuality, I felt the divide from the beginning. From the coming out videos where I know I can't be the only POC who couldn't resignate because black culture and acceptance of the lgbtq community at the time was totally different than the white community. Not understanding why I could count on 1 hand the black creators I could find and yet still was pushed by YT to watch the white creators. I love the LGBTQ+ community BECAUSE we span all of the races, genders and abilities. We have to find ways to support each other and open our minds enough to recognize that even though we are in the same community, some of us have privileges that others don’t so we can use those advantages to lift everyone up so we can rise together. I don’t know if I’ll ever make videos again, but I promise to do better regardless. Thank you for making this video!

Cammie has addressed it and just collabed with Jade, Rose and Rosie also addressed it and Amy did an interview with Jade, but Aly, Stevie, Shannon the rest of the WLYs have been silent and i am not surprised

I hope white lesbian youtubers see this video as an invitation to start genuinely collabing with black lesbian creators and create some amazing content together!

I'm a straight Black Woman and I 100% love your content - not because you're a Leo (smile - cause we're the best *just saying* lol), but because you're naturally TALENTED!! I wish more folks can see that! I experience the same phenomenon you're talking about in Corporate America... still --- to this day--- it's exhausting.

It's so frustrating-- I have high quality vlogs of my wife and I, great content, we're funny charismatic-- and I look at some of the "other" channels in my niche and their content SUCKS but the algorithm just favors them over mines...so I bust my ass because I'm passionate...but it still SUCKS

What’s weird is I used to watch Jade all the time and loved her videos and crushes on her hard, thought she had dropped off TH-cam but just seen I’ve been subscribed the whole time but haven’t watched a video since 2018, until this video I’ve realised it’s because she stopped showing up on my feed. TH-cam needs to work out their problems ASAP

Came from R&R video, and I’m staying for you.
this is a wake up call not only for the WLYT but for everyone.
I’m going to start calling out the ones I follow.
    Thank you.

The whole time I was straight faced really into what Jade was saying and then she said “But ambers bright” and I LOST it LOL 😂 But seriously tho these white girls are out here fully resurrecting segregation and it’s QUITE disturbing to watch

Im very late to this, I know, I just wanna add that I'm black, when I was identifying as a queer women, and I am not exaggerating when I say this at all. I watched lesbian TH-cam like religiously for three full years and you were the first black lesbian TH-camr I came across, after all that time and this was the first video I ever saw of yours, I swear the only other black lesbian TH-camr I've ever seen before this video was like the tiff & Jess TH-cam channel and even then that was so just a couple channel and one of the partners with a white person, it's truly wild how that all happened, I feel like when we are talking about these different communitys, that also include black people or bipoc people we're still approaching these conversations with a white lens, I've seen this a lot in the trans community as well

It’s crazy because I watch you a lesbian woman of color and watch other lesbian TH-camrs who are white and I really don’t get much of woman of color recommended, which again is crazy and I feel like most of us have noticed this but not really REALIZED how deep it is. I’m so glad you made this video and yes me like the other people in the comments did get rose and rosie’s response instead of this video even as a subscriber.
