  • Actually walking this time!
If you don’t remember my original video covering this guy, a quick recap-
This was one of the items I found in the middle of the woods in a hoarder’s broken down trailer 2 summers ago. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check out the description of this video: • Gemmy 2001-2002 Dancin...
Thankfully, this guy was packed away in a box rather than being out in the open, so he wasn’t too bad. He wasn’t too good either though, he literally had mouse poop stuck in his beard lol. After some extensive cleaning though, he was good as new. He didn’t even need any internal repairs, except for… you know what. He didn’t walk at all, thanks to SIX split gears in his legs. At the time, I didn’t have a way to replace these gears, so I just put him back together and called it good. But since then, I’ve learned a lot more about 3D printing. I actually repaired this before the Coyne’s walking Snoopy I posted awhile back, and was surprised to find they use slightly different mechanisms with different gears inside. Unlike Snoopy, this guy uses two 16 tooth gears in the hips and two 12 tooth gears in the legs, which is nice because you can buy those on Amazon. I wish I could say that about the last two split gears I encountered, which were larger square shaft gears that directly attach to the wheels. They needed to be 3D printed, which was no problem thanks to the help of Christopher S, who taught me everything I needed to know.
Now, finally, after who knows how many years, Santa’s on his feet again. It’s awesome to see one of these fully working for once, I’m so used to just watching them sit there and buzz lol. This guy is definitely staying with me, I loved him before and I love him even more now!
Thanks for checking out the video! Hope you enjoyed! Let me know what you think in the comments, and I hope to see you again soon!

Great to see a video of one of these fully working. I know you’re not the first person to fix one of these, but yours definitely works better than any others I’ve seen.

Nice repairs! It looks like new. The one thing I can point out is that the speaker sounds kinda grainy. I'm not sure if it's the speaker itself or the amplifier NPN transistor (if it even has one) Other than that, it works great and mechanisms are nice and fast.

Thanks! And yes sadly, I noticed the same thing. I forgot to mention it in the description, but I did actually try replacing the speaker, to no avail. I’m guessing you’re right about the transistor… luckily it’s pretty easy to open up again if I ever need to

I'm so glad he's back on his feet again. I had one of these but stuck the circuit board and wired everything to this bear that I had lol. But before that, my Santa had one of its feet broken off, that's because I tried unscrewing one of the feet, and the screw was so tight I tried putting all my force into it. Somehow, I snapped the foot off completely. Turns out it was just a locked up motor lol. it only started moving after the snapped foot incident. Oh well.

So you made a custom with him, that’s cool! Also, I totally forgot to put this in the description, but I did the exact same thing to this Santa when I first opened him 😂. Apparently the legs are quite fragile, I was barely even turning the screw and the whole leg snapped right off.

Wait.... A 16 tooth in the *hips?*

Well, I mean they’re located in the hips lol. That’s where the actual walking mech is, with 2 long shafts running down each leg to control the wheels. Each shaft obviously has 2 gears each on it, and all 4 were split.
