Prostate Cancer MRI's and Focal Therapy and the side effects patients want to avoid. Caroline Moore is the first woman in the UK to become a Professor of Urology. She is passionate about improving the diagnostic and treatment pathway for men with prostate cancer, using the latest in imaging technology, decision support and outcomes measurement. She has a particular interest in the use of MRI in the diagnosis and active surveillance of prostate cancer, and had led international consensus and group work in this area, including the START1 consensus on reporting studies of MRI-guided biopsy, the PRECISE consensus on reporting MRI in men on active surveillance for prostate cancer and the PRECISION study demonstrating the superiority of an MRI-targeted prostate cancer diagnosis pathway. She also studies the impact of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment on patient-reported outcome measures.

What a delightful doctor and informative presentation. Gave me a better understanding of how focal ablation may be applicable to my case. I wonder how the approach to diagnosis, screening, monitoring and treatment in the UK health care system compares or contrasts with how the same case is handled in the USA? My impression is that PCa patients may be able to expect more objective treatment etc recommendations in the UK than in the USA due to financial elements which are involved.

Thank you so much for posting. Very informative and essential for men to watch! My cancer was in the final stage before breaching the prostate, and I had no symptoms. Due to rising PSA, clear DRE and a previous negative prostate biopsy, my doctor ordered an MRI. The MRI identified a significant anomaly outside the reach of the DRE. I'm so thankful for regular PSA testing. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had an MRI with a targeted prostate biopsy that confirmed cancer. And by the time I developed symptoms, my cancer most likely would have already spread.

Good that your MRI gave you life saving information.

@Malecare, I had two prostate biopsies four years apart. The first was random and negative. The second was MRI targeted that confirmed cancer with a significant size tumour. I'm incredibly grateful for the MRI but could have done without the first random biopsy. My cancer was most likely missed by the first biopsy, allowing it to continue to grow undetected. Thanks again for posting.

I've had advanced PCa for 5 years. I have been followed using CT (chest/abdomen/pelvis) and nuclear bone scans. Where would an MRi fit in as well as these other tests? I have unconfirmed (unbiopsied) mets in the bones, pelvis and other organs

Dx 2010, had RP in 2011, radiation 2012. PSA came back- rising. Currently on ADT (Luperon). ADT lowers the PSA, but not below 4. No known metastisis, Can MRI assist at this point?
