    You can just tell by the engine sound before and after the spark plugs have been fitted that it really needed a service,nice job,very useful video.

    Hi dude, really love your vids, so nice to not have bad music dubbed over them like other do! Just a couple things though, DON'T replace the sump plug before removing the filter housing, especially if flush has been used, as the oil filter has a plunger to keep oil in the housing and prevent dry start up. When you remove this, about 200mls of old oil (and flush) will run back down into the sump. Also, if you hold the oil can on its side it doesn't glug! Other than that, thanks dude. These are great vids!

      No problem, tips gladly appreciated.
      As for the music, yep i dont really like it in videos, i used to put a track on the videos usually some imovie generic sound but the youtube copyright thing became a nuisance, now that there is no music you can play your own sound track while watching this:)

      nice line-up! i currently own a 106 1.4 8v and looking to upgrade towards a 206 1.6 16v. Are you aware of specific problems the 1.6 has that the 1.4 hasn't? After that i may spoil myself with either a 306 2.0 16v cabriolet or a 406 3.0 v6 coupe, if i have actual money at that time :P

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar myself with issues the 1.6 16v engine has, the 1.4 is fairly reliable the worst thing that happens is a blown head gasket and that's easy to fix. I think the 1.6 16v is the same TU5 engine as used in the Saxo VTS and 106 Gti.
      May be best to look at the french car forum or Peugeot related forums for some owners input,
      If i had the choice it would be a 406 V6 any day over a 306, the 406 is just a much more solid feeling car i feel safer driving them than 306's, it is something i would really like is a V6 coupe. I bought a Citroen C5 with the same V6 and its a fantastic engine amazing sound and tonnes of power. Just don't ask about fuel economy or how much a timing belt costs haha.

      Gearbox oil seems to be something which is overlooked when servicing cars its good preventative maintenance, although with this 106 it just needed filled with oil as the old oil had drained out when the driveshaft was out.

    Thank you for the video, i was a bit concerned with the gearbox oil change, now i can visualize where i must go with my tools! 4 moths ago I bought a 2002 106, hfx engine 1.1 with just 100.000 original kms and it is very smooth, reliable and consumptions are low. I'm planning to change the gearbox oil (car always used in town, 1,2 and 3 are a little hard sometimes but clutch is still good) and i wanna use the same 75w80 as stated in the manual. I noticed, when you start the car, if i'm not wrong, the noise made by the electric pump of the steering. Am i right? I was a bit concerned by mine because it is a bit noisy, maybe the electric motor is starting to say bye bye, but maybe i can also hear it in this video

    Hi! Peugeot 306 HatchBack 1400cc 75ps 2000 tu3jp, after reconstruction of the starter the speedometer and tachometer is dead. Checked the speed sensor and its OK. My speed sensor has 3 wires.. Do you know exactly the harness of these 3 wires?? Thank you!

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, you would need to get wiring diagrams.
      Ebay peugeot sedre, or try owners clubs/forums, even ask on there
      Or try peugeot servicebox and pay for an hours membership, get the diagrams you need and print them to PDF.
      I am not sure other than that, possibly one of the wires has got damaged or is not correctly installed.

      +Levan Gugulashvili - Please notice it's always better to use the external faces of the oil plug for removal. By memory I think it's a 22mm wrench, not sure now. The 8mm key is better just to tight.

    I have Citroen Saxo 1.4 (TU3JP) but it's so similar that this video is of huge help for me. Thanks! One question - does it matter how much petrol is left in the tank when you change the fuel filter?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesnt really matter, but its easier if you do it when the tank is low on petrol, then there is less petrol to flow out the pipe while you are switching between the old and new filters.

  • @mpc007
    @mpc007 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, i own a 106 1.4 and was looking for a clear and straightforward video on replacing the air filter. I know some people who make holes in their plastic air boxes so that the engine can suck in more than it would otherwise allow, do you have any experience or ideas about that? I know the effect isnt the same as with an open air filter but still curious if it would make a small difference.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive never been a big believer in touching the air filter to increase power. Perhaps on something extreme like a turbo conversion or changing to throttle bodies then changing the air intake and filter is beneficial but on an otherwise 8 valve TU 1.4 it is best left alone, any difference will barely be felt. A good clean air filter is enough on these cars.

    • @mpc007
      @mpc007 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quick question, hope you have a chance to answer fast. I just tried replacing my own plugs but my sparkplug tool (a t-model) is too big / wide, it won't fit into the tubes. You mentioned you used a 17mm socket, what size was the other end, where it goes into the extension? And how long was your extension? I need new tools but want to make sure I buy the right size :)

    If you still have this car , can you tell me what fuses it has? It's the same engine as mine.
    No oxygen sensor fuse in mine. Online manual says it has one and Haynes says it does although Haynes don't have the correct order. Should be fuse 11. Car only runs smoothly if I reset the Ecu every so often and gives fault code for 2nd O2 sensor. Passed MOT emissions though.
    Great video btw. My radiator has no drain so I'll have to take off the lower hose to do that. Looks hard to get at too. Pity you didn't do that but I'll manage :)

      I have a video showing how to change the 02 sensor on the 106, given its age its quite likely the sensor has expired, my 106 only had 42k on the clock but needed the sensor. I will take a look at the car if i get a chance, my grandpa drives it now.
      As for bleeding the coolant i flushed and filled the coolant on the 106 when i changed the timing belt there is also a video showing the location of the various bleeding screws.

  • @aidankelly8710

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really to be honest the difference was barely noticeable, however i must stress that the car wasn't really used before i did this service, it had been in an accident i bought it cheap and during the repairs gave the engine a service. It was more preventative maintenance than anything else.

    Hello! I just bought a 106 1.4, in part because the great DIY videos you made. Thank you!
    I only have a concern, it will be bad for the engine if I change de old mineral oil Shell hx5 15w40 for a semi-synthetic Total Quartz 7000 10w40 or synthetic Total Quartz 5w40? Those Total oils are in the owners manual.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Thanks for that, and i hope you enjoy the 106.
      Oil isnt something i know a huge pile about, its why i rarely recommend anything. I used 10w-40 in the saxo 1.4 8v engine and this 106 1.1 engine. It certainly was not total just a comma brand oil.

    • @CFC383
      @CFC383 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I will try any semi synthetic for now just to make sure that oil is brand new.
      Thanks you very much for answer me :D

    • @crpth1
      @crpth1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Changing oil brand is not an issue. But do a favor to yourself and your car, always follow the manufacturer advise regarding oil choice and type. ;-) Keep a sharp eye on the oil level and maintenance changes along with the filter.
      Mixing oil types usually is not a good practice, but a normal resource in an emergency.
      When changing mineral/semi, etc. make a full change with the filter. Beware of the temperature range of where you drive.
      One last advise if only doing short trips, city driving, etc. shorten the oil change intervals. ;-)

      XRD is the TU diesel engine? They are a different engine to these petrols, its worth checking a haynes manual for the specifics and use the right oil. Also i know from when my mum had a 1.5D 106 the cooling system needs to be cared for also, make sure it has the correct amount of coolant and it is in good condition.

      Hi, generally the gearbox oil will drain out of the filler when it is sufficiently full. If the car was parked at an extreme angle it would in theory be possible to then overfill it but this is why it is said to fill the gearbox with the car level.

    Hi, i have a peugeot 106 1.4 1993 (phase 1). Which are the dimensions of the oil/ air filter ?? I found many different filters and i dont know which one to buy. Im new in these...

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I don't know personally what the dimensions of these filters are they are just the type of thing I ask for at the motor factors, if there are a few types they gave me the various options and I return what is not needed. This can be handier than buying the parts online.
      However, Peugeot if you regisPeugeot servicebox there is a full online parts catalogue showing the different parts available to the 106. You can also type your vin in and it generally narrows down the amount of options available.
      Servicebox lists
      E149130 or 1109 N2 for the oil filter
      1444 85 or E147003 for the air filter
      It doesn't give any details on dimensions so again I would advise visiting a motor factors to source the parts.

    About the oil filter cartridge type inside of the plastic housing,does it just pushes in some kind of mechanism making it blocked into position or it simply feel loose and only when tightened back to the engine block the filter inside is compressed in his normal position?
    Hope i was clear enough,many thanks.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      VeiRoNv2 The filter just pushes into the plastic housing in some housings there is a very slight plastic click or pop feeling as it engages, but once its pushed into the housing it shouldnt really fall off the housing if turned upside down, anyhow if you tigten the filter housing back into the engine this should push the filter into the right position anyway.

    • @VeiRoNv2
      @VeiRoNv2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      peugeotCitroen2CV Thanks very much for the reply.
      I bought a MANN oil filter but when trying to push it into the housing it just wouldn't engage in any sort of mechanism if there's one,the filter is the right type for the vehicle,I I have no reason to believe otherwise.
      In the end I just fitted it back to the engine block and there doesn't seem to be any problem,the oil filter housing itself doesn't seem to be damaged inside so I don't think that's the cause.

    • @VeiRoNv2
      @VeiRoNv2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      VeiRoNv2 Just to update this,hadn't any problem with a Bosch oil filter,the MANN instead just wouldn't push into the mechanism,that's weird but I will just keep using the Bosh one,very good quality too.

    I wanna buy a peugeot 106 1.1 XN ACE E2 from '93 but i dont know about cars , what should i look at when i buy the car and what should i do when i buyed the car

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      1993 is going back rightly in the years, i think the earlier 106es were carburetted, not that its a particularly bad thing, but a later fuel injected 1.1 would be a better engine. If you are buying the 1993 car make sure it runs smoothly, that it revs without any lumpy or spluttery feelings, and that its passed its emissions/mot test.
      Then the general 106 checks apply, they do rust in places, the front wheel arches round where the washer fluid bottle is, also in the boot round the corners, and at 1993 possibly any places that have got a bad scratch although they are overall not too bad for rust, a 1993 ford will be in much worse shape. There is not too many electrical things to go wrong, listen for any squeaks or rattles from the suspension when driving.

      peugeotCitroen2CV thanks!, but i saw on the internet it says : singlepoint inj.
      i had a saxo and it was a injection

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrMetalsi It could possibly be its worth checking to make sure, i cant remember there may have been a date in the early 90s when they stopped selling carburetted cars. The saxo is the same car as the 106 bar a few bits of trim and slightly different dash, they are the same to drive.

      peugeotCitroen2CV I know the injection is better , but can u make a video where i should look at , just an easy video , not only for me , but for everybody. it helps a lot . trust me! thanks by the way brother!

      MrMetalsi I have an overview video of the 106 when i bought it where i just walked round it with the video camera on but i didnt do any commentary so it has very little in the way of advice of what to check for. I still need to do a video of the 106 anyhow now that its finished so i suppose i can do a bit of commentary on what to look out for when buying one. But the best place to get a good idea of what to look out for would be the 106 owners forum.

    Is it the same for a 106 98 Soleil?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure what the Soleil was, guessing one of the many trim levels the 106 had. If its a 1.1 TU engine, or any 8V TU it should be a fairly similar process.

    I live in the US, can you tell me more about Peugeot? They aren't reliable are they? We don't have them here and to me it just looks like poor engineering, I mean look at all that work for just the air filter.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they sold cars up to the late 80s/early 90s in the US, the 505 and 405 were the last ones sold. I don't know the exact reason they stopped selling cars, emissions or crash safety laws may have had an impact on the cars, the 505 and 405 were both good cars when sold here, the older peugeots (up to the 406) are fairly conventional cars and thus are easy to work on and fairly durable.
      The 106 is a good car, the cabin air filter might be tricky to get at but thats about as bad as it gets when working on one, and the most likely reason for it being awkward is that this 106 is a right hand drive car, the air filter would be much easier to access on a left hand drive car.

    • @FrenchValleyAirport
      @FrenchValleyAirport 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh ok, thanks for telling me that, i did know they sold them here in the past, but i've heard from many mechanics they were crap to work on, hence making me curious... thank you though

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      David G The old pugs from the 80s are very easy to work on, i am currently restoring two 1980s 305s at the moment (i don't believe they were sold in the US) but they are very easy to work on, simple front wheel drive design there isn't really anything about it that is frustrating when working on them.

    • @FrenchValleyAirport
      @FrenchValleyAirport 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh ok, yeah that would make sense because there's not much electrical components to go wrong.

      Curious to see the image Peugeot left after the attempted fiasco of reaching the US market. An amazingly bad network of dealers, marketing disaster, and protection laws in US that turned one of the cheapest brands in Europe into one of the most expensive in US. All together owners where faced with ridiculous prices for spare parts and on top difficult to find. This is more or less the short story.
      About reliability I would take any Peugeot before any US gas guzzler car brand. Well in fact I did. Already had/have several Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, VW, Mercedes....The closest I got to them was Opel (GM) brand. But to be fair that's also very European.
      Most people think the cars that conquered the sand dunes and deserts of North Africa where Land Rover, Jeep, Toyota Land Cruiser. No it was the modest and simple Peugeot... ;-)

      Ive done an XUD timing belt video out of a car, and a couple of DW10 HDis which are basically the same process. Acess on the 405 is just a bit tighter than it is on a 406 i find.
