Hey Marty, Just wanted to say thanks and you are awesome. I haven't picked up my guitar in 8 years because rheumatoid arthritis and lupus made it too painful to play. After stumbling across a few of your videos I dug it out and am playing through the pain. Thanks for reminding me it's worth it. You are a great teacher!!!!
Marty! Your demo of the finger banging around the open G chord shape AND its relationship to the Em/Gmaj pentatonic scales is nothing short of brilliant. Thank you.
Dude you are EXACTLY what I have been looking for as a video instructional guide to enhancing my guitar playing. Thanx...for taking the time to put these video's together.
best guitar tutor on line. after a ten year break. you have made the transition back into guitar far easier than I ever thought it would be. thanks marty.
You made my day Marty, I used to play the hell out of this song but now my memory is cheesecloth, my ears are tone-deaf, and my fingers sore and arthritic. One quick run-through (or two) and you brought it all back. You rock brother! Great and generous teaching!
It's gotten to the point now where I know all the chords in your tutorials that I don't even need to watch the entire video to learn it... thanks for your tutorials marty they helped soo much but I find it's never a challenge anymore. So i think I'm going to move onto fingerstyle and percussive. thanks again.
agreed. He does close ups of his left hand & its obvious where the fingers go. That should be enough or have a chord diagram pop up on screen...if thats not enough.... the video is too advanced for the guitarist viewing the video.
I've seen other good tutorials on you tube but I keep coming back to yours. You break everything down better. Better video, better explanation, better sound. I pick things up faster on your channel. You are the best out there.
Hi Marty, It is such a blessing to have you online. I just got back home and shared you with four people while I was out. I told them to check out your site and how much I have learned from you. Thanks for everything! Peace.
Marty I just want to say I appreciate all of your help me I've been trying to play after I broke my wrist on my left hand and it's a little hard but it's getting easier day by day by looking at your easy ways. thank you.
Really great song, unfortunately rarely known and totally underestimated. Only three chrods but it doesn’t need more for a wow song! I love those embellishments which you can place all over the chords!
One of the earliest memories I have in life what's this song playing on the radio of 78 Ford three-quarter ton Ford truck. I was standing on the seat hold none of my dad my left arm it had to be early summer riding on a ditch bank Dad must have been making an irrigation set. Marshall Tucker set off the first playlist in my fresh mind. The first three chords i learn to play on guitar were the beautiful D, C and G. God damn I love this song, Rex Wetzel
Worked something like this up a few weeks ago and added it to my solo acoustic rep. Finally got the vocals down and did it last week at my gig. Was a hit.... cool.
I gotta say again, Marty doesn't let me down. I find a song I want to learn, I see you have a video of it, I save it becuase I know coming from you It'll be a good tutorial video. Thanks dude!
Marty, nice lesson. Each key in guitar has its set of possible tricks. You have illucidated the possibilities in G quiter well. Even though this song is closer to the key of D. Thanks.
I purchased the Lifetime full package at the GuitarJamz website. So much information, it's like getting a college degree in guitar playing. It will take a couple of years to go through everything.
Marty this is the one song I got am emotional attachment to that's causing a brain freeze for years it has finally broke forcing myself to sit and fallow your lesson then stupid you been playe n this progression for years but not associating to this song to connect the dots straight playen from the heart that so cool dude besides the other song a little different Sweet Home Alabama your awesome bro tx man need a new acoustic though the action is jacked Gibson Maestro its pretty with nice tone
I love that song ... is easy too...and yes you can add your flair to it and keep within the spirit and recognition of it ..... embellishment was proper word
This is a good lesson and helped fill in some gaps I had when playing with this song. Thanks Marty! I have gotten a lot of good songs and riffs from your videos and I appreciate you putting them out there for us.
I'm glad I started playing when I was 12 being almost 25 now I've learned a lot a lot of people my age try and drop it bc it don't come to them so kids start while ur young ull catch on easier
Another great lesson from Marty's magic guitar hat-quarters. What about "Heard it in a love song", also sung by the Marshall Tucker Band? Would be a fantastic addition to this video.
Thanks Marty! I'm a beginner but your lessons never fail me! All I want for Christmas is to learn how to play SRV "lost acoustic blues" ;) please help Marty Claus!!!!
This is a good and also a simple-to-play version of a great song. As Marty is doing, many use that Cadd9 all through the tune but the second chord of the progression during the verses is not a Cadd9 but a D7. The bass is playing a C note which gives the impression that it is a C-type chord. In the recording the D7 is clearly heard. It's really D / D7(maybe with C bass) / G / D. I don't mean to correct Marty because this version is fine and easy, which he does really well. If you listen closely, though, you'll hear the D7. Most people do NOT play it like this, but it's correct.
Marty Love your stuff. Have helps a ton. Wonder if you would consider adding a camera to focus on your picking hand specifically. Sometimes can't see exactly what you are doing with your right hand. Thanks Mark
Love this song, and its a really easy one to play, but unless you have a high voice, hard to sing, I cant, and you cant duplicate the feel in any other key, nor adding a capo.
Lynda Parrish It is an awesome looking guitar, and played well, very well here is the address to mail it to and I do appreciate it, and don't tell me you haven't showed me the guitar yet, Lynda saw it too,
This is the kind of soulful song that makes every tree want to grow up to become an acoustic guitar.
Yeah, and every baby tuna that sees a Jiro Ono plate wants to become sushi. But I like your drift.
Best comment on the internet haha

Beautiful picking thru the chords. You really nailed this lesson! Thanks.
Great lesson. I always liked to add an on / off pinky finger to the D, or to the G. So that came in handy for this tune.
I purchased the Lifetime full package at the GuitarJamz website. So much information, it's like getting a college degree in guitar playing. It will take a couple of years to go through everything.
