@@wildestcowboy2668 Toy was a Marine , combat vet wounded in Vietnam, refused medical discharge and went back to his unit for the rest of his enlistment.
Quite possibly the most underrated band ever. Not only that but when the call came most of these boys answered and joined the military when other bands would enroll in college to get a deferment. Not sure about the others but Toy put his musical dreams on hold and went to Vietnam as a Marine.
@@paulles1377 Well I'm bloody confused now because we thought gray was their frontman. I had it blasting one night when a bloody Joey caused me to wreck.

I'm 44 and of course I heard this song...but it wasn't until I stumbled upon this live performance did I truly realize how FKN AMAZING this song is. EASILY in my personal top 10
One of the great 'white-boy-blues' vocalists ever! Damn shame that he flamed-out early..he and Gregg Allman .. they gone now, but man, they were great!!!
Can't you see! They are not all there! Have to be! Good ole boys that served their country and then came home and wrote some of the best tunes ever! 😊😊
I thought I was bad, when this was recorded in 73 I was 13, MTB didn't become my #1 band until about 76 or 77, then I saw them live in 79 or 80 I think. Good times, great music. The great thing about really good music, it doesn't lose anything over time, as they say, it wears well. The Band, MTB, so much great country rock from that era.
Never knew the tragedy that hit this band. Never knew the lead singer also played those sick, wonderful guitar riffs. What a style, too, with the thumb picking. Always loved this song so I had to look up a live performance. They sure left their mark with this one ! Thanks brothers for your great songs !
@Anthony hfe yea pretty cool huh. Lol toy wrote pretty much everything and Doug sang everything when the line up was original. "Can't you see" and "hillbilly band" are the exceptions. Toys brother, Tommy sang hillbilly band.
Obviously one of the best songs of the MTB and of all time. Should be in the top 100 without question. Thing is, these guys have some other gems if you want to take the the time to listen to them.
Toy Caldwell would have been 74 today-99 percent of the notes he plays on lead guitar are played with his thumb-his brother, the late Tommy Caldwell used the thumb on the bass, too.Adding Jerry Eubanks on the flute took a band that was already a 10,to an 11!!Toy wrote this and they put it on their debut album,1973's The Marshall Tucker Band.
