A friend 's son was erroneously billed to repay housing benefit, on their own figures they were wrong but refused to listen. Poor guy committed suicide because he was on a low wage, needed the benefit which was stopped then was threatened to repay money he didn't owe. Needless to say, nobody within the council offices admitted what had happened.
Sorry for your friend losing his son in such a sad way. I had something similar under the last Labour Gov't years ago. They told me I hadn't paid a bill even though I showed them proof that I'd paid the damn bill but was still charged £xyz/week for 18/12; they charged me £50 for late payment. It took me another 2 years for them to finally admit they were wrong before I got my money back. I asked for my £50 late payment back, but was told no as I was late paying the whole sum I owed them that I didn't owe! You get the picture, it's a bloody disgrace, So basically they "stole" £50 squids off me plus interest on money I gave to them Twice!

Don't be stupid. Under Reform we would see things get far, far worse that this. This legislation was passed last April, under the Tories. Reform is much further right than the Tories, you wouldn't get free healthcare, benefits and a state pension at all if Reform had its way!
Just tell them there was no point in you having it so you burnt it or you developed a drug habit which got out of control or you put it all on the national lottery and lost it🤔😂
We have been told all our lives to save for retirement. So we have. The state pension is not a benefit, but for those of us who have a works pension as well you can bet we will get means tested, and be left with the amount of money the lefties think we should live on!! Life has been a struggle for many of us, just leave us alone to enjoy our twilight years as we see fit, not what a government dictates.
Recently, I wanted to access my building society account... ... the staff asked me the usual ID questions... then my employer, my employers address, my position in the company, my annual income... at which point, I thought: This isn't ID check, it's phishing!... And I told them to mind their own business... They since said it is to comply with new legislation... If nothing else, this is an almighty identity theft problem in the making... If the govt ever has this information... their database Will be hacked! If the banks hold this data... likewise... The result: Massive... Govt sponsored... Fraud!
Was it Nationwide, by any chance ? There are many people complaining about their questions and haven’t yet heard of any other bank asking the same level of intrusive questions that go far beyond ID check.
When my ex husband had to have operations we were told to live on my credit card despite no savings and 3 children under 7. When we split up, I was told the same, and my mother bought our food and this was before 2002. When you consider our current 4* hotel accommodation etcetera for individuals of unscrupulous behaviours, it beggars belief.
I'm sick of this labour government treatment of pensioners they are trying to take every last bit of dignity they have left now wanting to snoop in their bank accounts it's absolutely disgusting behaviour we need to get them out of government now
I know some pensioners in their eighty's with no access to the Internet, that when i try and tell them what is going on in the world they say "where do you get all this rubbish from?" They have no idea how dangerous this world has become they only get information from itv and bbc....
They should just take everything from us and hand out ration books and have done with it☹️. We could go back to putting our saving under the mattress☺️
What’s next, I’ll need to prove to the DWP that I’m looking for work to qualify to keep drawing the pension that I’ve already paid for? They’re crazy enough to come up with something like that. They are all a bunch of >*#”@;%*$’*%~@…!
What about the human rights act of privacy. Someone ought to take the DWP to the human rights courts and challenge this recent government law. If it is a law.
If they class the state pension as a benefit not an entitlement then they should pay back all contributions with accrued interest for the whole of our working lives. This government is not trustworthy and appears to have other agendas that do not benefit British people. In a democracy the government should remember that they work for the people not the opposite of that.
If it’s a benefit then why when we apply for all the freebies available on benefits is a pension not classed as a benefit in those circumstances ie heating allowance, dentistry, opticians, boilers….etc
This is absolutely disgusting and another step for complete control of the people. Big Brother this has to be stopped for everyone including DWP claimants.
Hello GM 's . I am 66 and get my first State Penion payment next week . The first email I got when this was confirmed was from ..............yes HMRC saying my Tax code will change , and Tax will be deducted from my income at source , I hate this Liebour Government ! 😡
Your tax code changing is not necessarily the fault of the Labour Government per se. It is common for Notices of Coding to be issued on commencement of State Pension. Just make sure that it is the right code. If the SP is your only source of income, then your code should be 1257L. If that is what you have been informed then that is correct.
Funny 😂 they’ve not made any changes yet still working under the Tories 🎉 I wonder how many of the blue rinse brigade will have to start pugging their cash under their mattress again 😮

Unlike the French we are far to forgiving with government over reach. Our pensions have been earned not gifted as the political class. As citizens of this land we slipping into servitude to the ruling class. It is our right to rule from the bottom up and not the top down. They are our public servants and need reminding of that.
As a pensioner with reasonable works pensions, the state pension placed me above the £12,570 tax allowance limit. Are they now looking at my bank accounts to penalise me further by reducing my state pension payments?
Excellent video. As a veteran, pensioner, home-owner and motorist I am already being penalised by this awful government. I am just over the threshold to claim any benefits whatsoever, and did not even qualify for a military pension, so I get the State Pension and that is it. I am retired now and some time ago got a letter from DWP confirming that I have NEVER missed an NI stamp since I started work at age 15. This means that I have paid in full for my pension and I am entitled to it. It amazes me now to hear people saying I am being unfair on young people by forcing them to pay tax to fund my pension. I don't recall anyone saying the same thing as I was growing up. It was expected, and completely normal, to pay into the scheme so that MY tax supported OAPs, as they were once known, knowing that when my turn came, I would be supported in return. Suddenly I am some sort of grasping old parasite on the backs on modern youth. I could rant on but it really is pointless. Far too many people in this country are apathetic when it comes to voting, and simply don't bother. But, the extreme ideologists are NOT apathetic, and vote. Thus, we end up with the government we deserve through our inaction. I have no answers but I do always cast my vote, and just wanted to use this excellent platform to let off steam and vent my frustration.
I agree with most of what you say. I vote in every GE. I have never voted Labour since that bas#ard Blair started the war in Iraq. Reform was my choice and will be in the next GE. This lot in power are there by default, they will not last 4 years. All parties are led by WEF ideals and they will fail. Although we are suffering at the moment? EVERY DOG WILL HAVE ITS DAY! Long live Guy Fawkes!!!
@@meerfisch Agree with some of your list but not the following: 1. Blair was/is an utter c-word, but he did not start the Iraq war. He dragged us into it as (very much) the junior partner to the USA, but the driving force for the war was President Bush and the American neo-cons. 2. Unfortunately, we could be stuck with the current government (regime?) for a further four years, five months and ten days. Although it wouldn't surprise me in the least if we had at least one change of PM in the interim. But be careful what you wish for, there are people on the Labour left that make Starmer look like a choirboy. (Sorry, not the best choice of words there) 3. I've got some bad news for you about Guy Fawkes ...
Thank you so much for looking into this. I feel the power to look into every pensioner's bank account could be the first step towards reducing your pension if they feel you have enough to live on, with maybe a small work pension or income from ISA investments. To do that surely, they would also have to have access to your outgoings, bills, rent etc. I have never been able to afford holidays, but those who do, could have that option taken away from them if they think they can dictate how much each person should have to live on.
My experience is the DWP seem to know to much because i was claiming tax credits before my wife reached pension age but they soon let me know it was stopping when she was coming up to claim her state pension. Being honest i would have let them know anyway. Also had a small pension of about £2500 in the pot so just cashed it in. 6 Months later they was on to me asking had i been working because of the money that went in to my bank so had to explain where it had come from. Big brother is already watching us.
I have a small works pension and also the state pension. However, there are rumours that the government may introduce state pension means testing. Should that happen I assume that I will lose my state pension because I have a small works pension. I will then wish that I had never bothered to pay into a works pension. Therefore paying into a works pension will become pointless unless it results in a pension which is at least double the state pension. Seems crazy to me that a person spends years paying into a works pension and the state pension and then loses one pension because of the other.
That is frightening . We all remember the almost bullying tactics of all Governments to get us to pay into work place pensions. Then came the Pension scandals where vulture funds supported by Governments of all hues told us to cash in our work place pensions where we lost thousands to the benefit of these vultures.
@@cafsixtieslover The Government are looking at the Australian state pension means testing scheme which takes into account all your assets and savings as well as any private pension. Should we adopt such a scheme then it's only the poorest who would receive a state pension. I hope you are right in saying that it's unlikely however, the fact that our government are looking at the Australian scheme worries me.
This has just happened to me. They have just checked my bank accounts & say I owe them £275 tax on interest earned.the only problem I have with this is I only have an ISA. I was under the impression you never paid tax on ISA interest 🧐
I’ve just been asked by Lloyds and now Nationwide to fill in forms on what is in my bank account. Lloyds wanted to know if we had lived in America. I thought is this a con. Got no help from bank teller just fill it in and send it. I am not happy. They are using a stick to frighten us, you must fill in this form. Is this legal. Also how do we know if their system is safe with our information. It frightens me. We just get pensions nothing from the state. Time we got rid of this government before all our free speech, and our money is taken and that’s what they are after, they will find a way to grab our money.
I am so pleased I subscribed to this very informative channel. The subject you talked about today can only be described as a diabolical liberty! The State Pension is not a benefit, end of story!! Everyone works towards receiving it in their later years, and people's later years should be a time to relax and enjoy their families and be comfortable knowing they provided their very best. Not being worried about who is poking into their financial matters.
To make sure you aren't getting more money than allowed without paying tax. I wonder if this will apply to all demographics?. They have just started with pensioners, but will inspect everyone claiming any benefit of any age, I understand.
If state pension is designated as a benefit it won’t fall under the tax umbrella I raised the issue some years ago. HMRC don’t treat it as a benefit to them it is income.
So worked all our lives and the government are going to look a my bank account and decide I’m not entitled to the state pension that I’ve paid because I’ve got too much savings for a better retirement . Disgusting. What I do with my money is my business not theirs.
They have already been doing it, my brother in law sold a car for £30.000 put it in his bank, they taxed him and assumed he was working ( he is retired ) It wasn't untill he queried this and told them it was money for his car that inland revenue returned his money. How did they know he had paid money into his bank account ?
@@dianemelia7286 So are you saying HMRC assumed that we was working, issued a demand for payment and he paid it? Or was the part time employer taxing him on the money he had in the bank. How does that work. I would like to know how HMRC "took" this money.
Get ready, means tested state pension is coming down the road. Watch how Baganoch was talking about this, other ministers talking about the state pension was unsustainable going forwards.
It may very well be the case that the State Pension will be means-tested in the future, but it would be a very long way away. If you are over 50 I wouldn't worry about such a change. It is unlikely to affect anyone over this age as it stands given the seriously long lead in time that would be required. What is more likely in the next parliament, will be a change to the Triple Lock.
the present government is trying to make you think twice of applying for any financial help and frightening claimants who probably qualify for help and then don't bother, which is what they want.
Thank you for this information as these are worrying times. It feels a betrayal of our country’s trust (in the past) as now we are being treated as if we are nothing and have a country we can still be proud of. I have been disabled for 35 years due to a horrific brain injury which led on to other disabilities. I was a divorced single Mum with three beautiful children, who I could no longer look after myself. My family rallied around and they still lived with me but the illness wore them down too. I was bedridden for 9 years but did not recover from it all. In 2020 I was awarded PIP for 10 years as my condition was and is not improving.I am 72 now and I only exist there is no quality of life. My children are my life, even though they have families of their own. Before the latest PIP award we had to fight all the way and ending up at a tribunal stage. That had to be sorted out due to my condition. I just pray that Labour will adhere to my currant award as to start again from scratch is a nightmare. I am dictating this for my mother as she can’t do it. God bless to other sufferers who are sometimes never heard. Thank you
It wasn't that long ago that you could have £16,000 in your bank account and still claim benefits. When I was made redundant from work back then I had more than 16,000 so I put solar panels on the roof which brought it down to under 16,000 so that I could claim job seekers allowance.

State Pension and Benefits are two separate entities. Benefits should be targeted to the deserving few, while a State Pension is earned and depends on paid National Insurance contributions over the individual's working life. A Government that changes this will lose elections and power.

We should do so, but how to fund it? They are running amok with power but haven't got a clue.
It's a disgrace 😮
They can snoop all they like. I’m on the old pension £169. I keep seeing. Oh we are giving you this or that. But I don’t qualify. All I see is what they take. First it was the TV Licence, then the Winter Fuel Allowance. What next, there will be more. Prescriptions, bus passes ? Plenty of rumours just to keep us terrified.
You are right. The state pension is NOT a benefit. Everyone pays into it, yet the media and certain politicians keep saying that it is
A friend 's son was erroneously billed to repay housing benefit, on their own figures they were wrong but refused to listen.
Don't call our state pensions benifits wwe have worked for pensions i srarted work at age 15 years old i have never been on benefits

Was it Nationwide, by any chance ? There are many people complaining about their questions and haven’t yet heard of any other bank asking the same level of intrusive questions that go far beyond ID check.

Your tax code changing is not necessarily the fault of the Labour Government per se. It is common for Notices of Coding to be issued on commencement of State Pension. Just make sure that it is the right code. If the SP is your only source of income, then your code should be 1257L. If that is what you have been informed then that is correct.

Not yet. The legislation has to finish its journey through the Commons
I truly believe they will start to means test your state pension, yes. 😢
No not for you, can't be retrospective. you are fine.
Voting is an elaborate illusion, it doesn't make any difference; if it did, we'd never have been allowed to do it in the first place.

(Sorry, not the best choice of words there)
They don'thave enough staff to deal with this especially as they are still WFH
Then came the Pension scandals where vulture funds supported by Governments of all hues told us to cash in our work place pensions where we lost thousands to the benefit of these vultures.
do you really think we will let them take our state pension,as the man says we are a big army with clout if we only used it.
