The substrate that they used for review 2 look like the dirt you use to grow plants. It has the white stuff and dirt so i think it's the dirt you use for plants.
Actually plays sand and eco earth is what most crabs prefer. It is a very good consistency and holds shape well so the hermit crabs can dig caves to molt in. But I guess it’s just personal preference.
So I’ve been actively building my daughters crabitat for her. One problem I have is the hammock I bought is molding. It’s the same one I see in a ton of your review tanks. Also. Is there a certain time frame for molting? At what point would we check to see if the crab is indeed still alive. I’ve been warnings tons of videos but I can’t seem to find the answers I need.
Hermit crabs can take up to a month to molt. I would recommend to leave it alone until it resurfaces. If you began to smell a odor, it may have passed away. Good luck! Oh and rope tends to mold so I wouldn’t recommend buying another one
My hammock turned mouldy as well, I just threw it away as I didn’t think I would be able to get all the mould off because there was A TON of mould on it. :)
Here is a line from the hermit crab association, I would look at their website for more info. THERE IS NO SET IN STONE TIME FRAME! Any crab - regardless of size or species - can take as little as a few days to a maximum of 8 months, and possibly longer. NEVER DIG UP YOUR CRAB! That said, average molting times are: Micro/Teeny - 1 week (but can stay underground for up to 4 weeks), every month Small - 2-3 weeks, every 1 to 3 months Medium - 3 to 6 weeks, every 2 to 5 months Large - 4 to 8 weeks, every 4 to 10 months Extra Large - 6 weeks to 8 weeks, every 10 to 12 months Jumbo - 8 weeks to 16 weeks, every 12 to 24 months
Hi! So in my crabs water there is a cluster of tiny moving bugs, I have no idea on what to do next! I deep cleaned their cage and everything was going fine then the bugs or mites showed up again! Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this?
That second substrate in the second crabtiat really legit just looks like gardening fertilizer.
It likely is
@@violetrowlet777 Then that needs to be changed out ASAP. That's going to kill a molting crab.
@@huntermegabot I know! Poor crabby!
Yeah! You probably right, and I didn't even think of that!
Yeah! That’s really weird it had that white plant food stuff in it!
I think it’s coconut mixed with potting soil. It’s what the pet store told me to do

Hi! Question:is ten gallon good for two small crabs?
Yes! Until they get bigger then they need at least a 20 gallon.
Ok! I’m getting crabs for Christmas and I just wanted to make sure the tank is good for them.

Yikes! That doesn't sound fun. I have never experienced this, so I really can't help.
I keep my room at 72 degrees at night for my hermits, is that sufficient?
No, the coldest it should be for them is 75
Hi
