Hi Gabriel, Nice to get to the beach even though the water temperature is in possibly the low sixties. The town was nice all the little gift shops and other small businesses and those Greek salads are wonderful, a nice complement to a meal.

Gabe I have never seen you eating fish what it's typical for South europeans. Try Calamaris, Octopus or Sardines on the Grill with a glass Ouzo that's awesome!
Stay hydrated people. I recommend to always carry at least a 1.5 litre of water each when you are going on a beach, especially when hiking is also included, because the access to fresh water is not a given in many cases.

Gabriel - when you're in Thessaloniki, I highly recommend seeking out the churches of Hosios David and St. Nicholas Orphanos, both in the Upper City. I predict you'll be glad you did. The former has one of the oldest early Christian wall mosaics while the latter has amazing frescoes of St. Nicholas which illustrate the Santa Claus 'origin story.'

Have you ever thought of returning to Egypt to spend some non-Schengen days? I am in Hurghada right now and it's amazing and it also feels safe, the conflicts in Israel/Palestine does not affect travel safety in Egypt. People are still friendly to us westerners. Besides the Ancient Egyptian history there is also plenty of Greek things like the city of Alexandria and many other places, the Mediterranean coast is largely unexplored by tourists. And along the Red sea there are cities like Hurghada and Marsa Alam. Visa on arrival for Americans cost 25 dollars.

But he was mainly just giving his opinion and several reasons on why its curved etc. sorry i cant be more specific as im a slow typer and it would take quite a lot just to mention a few things he said.

Eratosthenes was a Greek mathematician, who while in Aswan (old spelling Assuan) calculated the correct circumference of the earth from the length of shadows during high noon more than 2000 years ago. So with Gabriel being in Greece that would have been a valid occasion talking about that subject. Maybe, when or if he returns to Egypt he will do a reprise of the subject. (That being said, I don't know if if he talked about Eratosthenes at all.)

80% of greek islands are like Skyros and many of them are even better, prettier etc. We leave Mykonos, Santorini,Zante, Rhodes for tourists.
