Thanks for (re)clarifying the role of the upper arms in the forward swing. It is important to note that all the levers you covered (wrists, elbow, shoulder) do activate during the swing, but do so in response to action of the upper arm. As does the entire body, which is why remaining relaxed is critical. Not necessarily an easy thing to do as tension is often equated with power.
I’ve been using the MDLT method for about 2 years but never grasped what swinging forward with the arms means. This video was a “lightbulb” moment for me. Now I’m using my arms correctly and the increase in speed and control is amazing. Thank you!
Excellent, I never get sick of your clarifying what Manuel DeLatore meant. Can I suggest a series that addresses the arm swing from start to finish, then another which addresses the finer points, like specialty shots, for which I’ve never seen explanations.
I am having trouble understanding "swing the whole club with the arms on the downswing". If I swing the club head like Ernest Jones won't the whole club follow? Maybe when you have time do a youtube showing what happens if you don't swing the whole club. I adopted your chipping technique. What a difference it has made in my scoring. Shot an 81 today three lower than my age. Looking forward may a youtube. Thanks! Tom
When you start the forward swing with the arms, do you find yourself keeping the forearms, wrists, hands, and fingers limp and floppy? Almost like the club could slip out of your fingers as it whips around you in the direction of the target.
Your description of the hinges in the arm remind me that we are swinging a human flail of sorts. Does that jive with what you are saying. I got the idea from the Golf Machine years ago in the Swining section, which is analagis to Manuels ideas.
'Swing back using hand and wrists. Swing forwards using upper arms'. This appears to be the mantra!! Please elaborate on the backswing part - do wrist up-cock from the outset of the back motion? And is the motion in the outwards (away from the sternum) direction or is it across the chest?? Excellent blog. Thank you👏👏👏👍👍
Will do. Thank you

Thank you so much for your comment in your question.. I will absolutely do a video in the near future about the whole club versus parts of it.
